Harrowing but enlightening, Trainwreck is a comprehensive investigation into the structural forces that led to one of the music industry's most infamous disasters.

Sophia Schmidt New Statesman Netflix treats sexual violence as an afterthought to the revolution, rage and capitalist greed of Woodstock ’99. Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Andrew Male Times (UK) It is to the credit of British director Jamie Crawford that this three-part film examines the root cause of the unrest: greed. Aug 12, 2022 Full Review Brad Wheeler Globe and Mail Officially a rock doc, Trainwreck’s true genre is more like horror. Aug 6, 2022 Full Review Justin Brown Medium Popcorn I think the last episode should have focused a bit more on the aftermath of this tragic event but this series was still very effective in depicting the madness that took place over this weekend. Rated: 4/5 Oct 24, 2022 Full Review Brandon Collins Medium Popcorn I thought this docu-series was very effective in highlighting how this event went so terribly. It also shined a light on the incompetent organizers without it being too bearish. Rated: 4/5 Oct 24, 2022 Full Review Charlotte Harrison Charlotte Sometimes Goes to the Movies This one really needs to be seen and talked about, particularly when it comes to accountability of mob mentality and the pervasive nature of sexual assault at music festivals. Stuart K While the events of the festival are shocking, one of the most disturbing things is how this documentary treats the multiple cases of rape and sexual assault as a footnote. At one point the rape of a child in the back of a van is given less then a mention. Netflix need to revisit this and correct their mistakes, this docuseries should have lead to the organizers being held to account in court, instead of letting them just shrug it off. The series is very much an account of what happened rather than a deeper investigation into why it went so wrong. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/20/23 Full Review Patrick S I didn't remember much about Woodstock '99, but what a nightmare it must have been. Good documentary. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/14/23 Full Review John F Great for sociological investigation. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review cinephile f I really enjoyed it. It was much better than the HBO documentary about Woodstock 99. In the third episode, the documentary alined itself too much with current woke movements for my taste but overall I still enjoyed it. The only thing that was missing was an in depth discussion of the aggressive music of the late 1990s (which they did talk about in the HBO version.) Overall, very entertaining and one of my favorite docu series. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Richard W You can tell a documentary is good when it captures the entirety of the a situation. In this case, Trainwreck: Woodstock '99 clearly showed the stark differences between the expectations of the promoters, the fans, the vendors, and the musical talent. Here's a hint - they were not on the same page. Not. Even. Close. This documentary also went deeper - beyond the sordid headlines of the day - and demonstrated that people actually had the experience of a lifetime. It was fun, exactly what fans wanted. That said - it did not live up to the Woodstock brand, something "Trainwreck" did a phenomenal job in explaining. The story is well organized - the three-day event is covered in three episodes, interviews with several reporters, several fans, musicians, the promoters and their employees/volunteers, even the mayor of Rome, NY. What you will see is the head-in-the-sand optimism from the promoters, wishful thinking from the mayor, deep concerns from the people doing the grunt work to make it all happen, the fun and the crime expressed by fans. Whether you like music festivals, crime stories, or just plain documentaries, this is a good watch. Enjoy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/18/22 Full Review bryan f Really great documentary.
