Not to be confused with 1992’s dismal Tom and Jerry: The Movie, this latest reboot does the modish live-action/CGI thing with the Hanna-Barbera cartoon classic, plonking the likes of Chloë Grace Moretz and Michael Peña into the duo’s scraps. The story has Jerry hanging out in a posh hotel, facing extermination by Tom in advance of a fancy wedding.
Reviews were pretty damning, with the Hollywood Reporter speaking for many in observing that the film comprises “five to ten minutes of action that might have worked in one of the cartoon duo’s shorts, surrounded by an inordinate amount of unimaginative, unfunny human-based conflict.” Revisit the classics instead, either on DVD or the terrific uncensored US blu-ray edition.
