Man, I been searching for music that has something recently. Heck, if it has anything i’ll be satisfied… oh wait.

This is one of those albums that I never would have found if it weren’t for someone recommending it to me. But i’m really glad I did find it because this is totally worth the listen. A soft rock 70s project that at first seems boring and unoriginal, but as time goes on the album picks up on flavor and in craziness. The back half of this album (disc 2) has ... read more

I'm glad I discovered this record through a friend, because maybe instantly I would never have heard it. 'Something / Anything?' is an album that shines on its own, bringing the best of 70's pop rock without sounding monotonous or uninteresting, there's plenty of room for experimentalism, especially after the track 'Intro' where there's a change of narrative within the cd, and it's from that moment the album goes to a place of unique musical exploration. Why as low as a 79? This is a singular achievement in songwriting in mellow singer-songwriter soft rock of the 70's.

Great pop record, with a few stnadout classics: 'I Saw the Light', a deservingly massive hit that couldn't be more catchy and 'Marlene', a beautiful ballad that keeps getting better as it goes on. 'Song of the Vikings' is admirably strange.

The elongated experience of music from the 70s sounds way ahead of its time. I don't keen on listening to long albums; it's a massive challenge to me to be honest. However, 'Something/Anything?' is the exact opposite of a long, unnerving album; it's a story that simply must be told. Todd Rundgren cleverly engages his audience by mastering almost every single part of the record to perfection

*Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums #396*

This is a VERY soft listen, has a very 70s sound and is rather easy to enjoy. The vocals are sweet and comforting, and the songs all have a clear structure of a typical pop song, making them easy to follow on first listen. This album is long in my opinion, and while I do think this is an album I could easily put on my record player and enjoy it most of the way through, I do think a few of the tracks could have been taken off or trimmed down. First of ... read more
