- Just opened...lacquer cut by Chris Bellman, if anyone is interested. Sounds good so far, no o.g. to compare it to. Interesting notes included. Enjoy.

I like Todd Rundgren, but this is pretty bad; other than a few songs, album is engineered noice. Read that it was his 5th album; shocked me, I thought it was his demo.referencing Todd (2×LP, Album) 2 BR 6952
More classic era TR. You get advanced (for 1974) studio trickery, proto-synth pop, full band excursions that sound like Mahogany Rush, full band excursions that lampoon metal, Todd Ballads that continue to owe a huge debt to Laura Nyro and Smokey Robinson, and a partially sabotaged single. Some synth/drum machine tracks would sit well on Kraftwerk's contemporaneous Autobahn. Added benefit: seeing Sterling and RL in the matrix.referencing Todd (2×LP, Album) 2 BR 6952
If anybody has the poster for sale let me know- I’ve only heard this on Apple Music before getting this copy but the vinyl sounds a little compressed and quiet to me.
After doing a bit of research, I learned that Friday music recordings tend to be this way.
The price was decent for a 180-gram 2LP set (under $40) but hopefully a better audiophile pressing will come along at some point. - Edited 2 years agoI just scored this on sale for $13 sealed and given that the few others that I already own from the MOV series sound great, it was a no-brainer.
However, this is the original copy that I've owned for decades and am very familiar with:
https://www.discogs.com/Todd-Rundgren-Todd/release/2942726
Thus, this MOV Gold copy was VERY NOTICEABLY different. This pressing has the high-end rolled off and is way more quiet. I won't compare this to a CD as done below due to CDs being 10x the dynamic range and my not owning this album on one, but compared to my OG WLP, nuh-uh. No way. I'm glad I got this for half the average price but there's ZERO need for me to spin this again.
And to clearly validate this assessment, Side 2 and Side 3 each have 1/2" wider lead-out bands than my OG WLP.
You use less grooves when you have less frequency to imprint. Fact. And while some may attempt to get a debate going here on that, what is NOT DEBATABLE is that my OG WLP has LESS lead-out and IS a louder record with FAR better dynamic range.
Then, there's the blurry cover reproduction. The tracks and information were already difficult to read on the original but this is ridiculous. The poster is way smaller than the OG and while that makes sense, it should have at the very least been 11" x 22" if not the obvious 12" x 24". This 10" x 20" thing is goofy. - By my ears, this pressing sounds significantly muddy and lacking in range compared to the contemporary one pressed by Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Santa Maria: https://www.discogs.com/Todd-Rundgren-Todd/release/380303
