The Marvel Cinematic universe has recently expanded to a scale which is unprecedented. For the occasion, old-school and newer fans are coming together to celebrate the best super-heroes ever created by the team at Marvel. This means more movies, but also more merch! While it's been quite common for Marvel to push out toys and figurines in the image of their characters, some of them have grown to be quite alike...historic pieces. The important names to know here are the three companies who have held the Marvel license over the years: Mego, ToyBiz, and Hasbro

Indeed, some of the older lines of toys have come to be quite rare. Whether it's because of limited editions or because the character model has evolved over time, these toys are worth notice. Everyone wants to get a hold of these Action Figures, now more than ever. Here are the most expensive Marvel toys ever sold (and their approximative price tag)! Go clean out your closet, you may just own one of these!

27 The Cap - Mego Release

Via eBay (cu_thecollectorsuniverse)

The Cap is an Icon, it turns out the toys associated with him are just as iconic.

One of these is an old school line of toy released in the 1970s when very few other superheroes existed. The 8-inch toy has become quite iconic though it was difficult to analyze at the time. Rather than being crafted out of plastic this old-school gem is made of cotton and weaved together to inspire all the youth to believe in the cap. What is something like that worth today? About $1,000 USD, which is no small amount for a toy. The Cap has always inspired citizens, this is no different.

Price: 100- $1,000 USD based on quality (eBay)

26 Spider-Man - Mego Release

Via CultofMac.com

Spiderman, the hero of the people and the most recent protagonist of a AAA video-game.

Although he's evolved to be quite an influential figure, his first appearances weren't quite so glorious.

The image above is one of the first figures created of the super-hero in the mid-1970s.

Again, the easy thing to spot out is the material of which the toy is made. What would something like this go for today? About $1,431 USD. If you've got one lying around, consider that price.

Price: $1,400 USD (eBay)

25 Marvel Legends: Crimson Dawn Psylocke Variant

Via Statueforum.com

What do you do when you're brought to an inch of life by Wolverine and Sabretooth?

It's an easy fix! You find the elixir of life provided by the Crimson Dawn. That's exactly what inspired the Crimson Dawn Psylocke toy, which is worth a good amount of money. Why you may wonder? Because the famous sale which occurred on eBay presented the items as two additional models of the ToyBiz Mojo line which never saw release. When the license went over to Hasbro, these toys were apparently abandoned. With that in mind, understand that this toy is worth about $15,000 USD. The last notable figurine was sold with the next entry in our list, and both were sold for an exorbitant amount. Immortality is worth a good amount.

Price: $2,500 USD (eBay)

24 Marvel Legends: Silver-Shirt Luke Cage

Via toyworth.com

What do you get with unbreakable skin and super-strength? It's simple enough, you get some sick merchandise.

One of those items it the silver-shirt variant of Luke Cage which was released in 2006. You're thinking, it isn't that memorable. But it is! The item has come to be limited in its release and acquired a certain rarity which can only be matched by Crimson Dawn Psylocke. Its rarity has meant that the toy is being sold on eBay for an exorbitant price.

Same boat as Psylocke above, only 12 exist. A set of both was recently sold on eBay for $25,000 but the packaged toy alone is worth between $2,000 and $3,000 USD. That's quite a bite from your budget.

Price: $25,000 USD bundle, never sold alone

23 X-Men Vs. Street Fighter Gambit And Zangief

Via CBR.com

What sells better than one franchises' toys? Two franchises mixed into a dual pack of course!

That's why this next toy is worth so much money. It featured a rare matching of Marvel's universe with the Street Fighter series.

Gambit and Zangief do look like they'd set up a good duel.

Special effects weren't included as a kid, but I owned this one myself so it's close to my heart! The toy released in 1998 and was developed by Toy Biz. How much does something like this go for today?

Price: $100 USD (eBay)

22 Marvel Legends: Deadpool Series 6

Via Bigbangtoys.com

Hey, you! You love my toys, don't you? It's me, Deadpool! X-Force!

Nope, not even going to try and write with that much wit. Though our favorite mutant wasn't always cherished by Marvel, his later series of toys carried all the charm and charisma we've come to attribute to the hero. He's even got the (limited time) X mascot with him. How much is this series six figurine worth? Quite a bit it turns out.

Price: $350 USD (Amazon)

21 Ares Build-A-Figure

Via YouTube (TFNUT)

What's better than building your own super-hero? Marvel knows that's what fans want to do, which is why they released the BAF line of toys.

Why was this series so coveted? Well, it was only sold by Wal-Mart, which in the long-run does mean that your toy is quite rare. Who says rarity also means a much higher price than you'd have paid at the cash. This example is of a lesser known character, hence less reprinted, Ares Build-A-Figure. The antagonist turned anti-hero in a 2006 reboot.  Toys of the character in the Gladiator Hulk line will cost you a pretty penny.

Price: $50 USD

20 Giant Man Build-a-Figure

Via eBay.com

What's harder to build than a single hero? Multiple pieces of one hero, it turns out.

As part of their now coveted build-a-figure line, Marvel included a pretty interesting representation of Giant Man, which audiences most recently saw in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Turns out, the toy was broken down into various limbs which children put together. Works out, but in the long run, most of those limbs go missing! That's why it's near impossible for collectors to find the original, unopened and perfect copies of Giant Man. How much does a completed (unboxed) figurine cost today?

Price: $200 USD

19 Black Suit Spider-Man - Red Hulk Wave

Via YouTube (DavidBSActionFigureReviews)

The next entry is based on one of Spider-man's more famous suits.

You may have recently been swinging through Insomniac's Spiderman while wearing the Black Suit for your hero and thought. "Wow, this is a dope suit." The people at Marvel have known that secret for some time now.

That's why they released a 'red hulk' series of toys at Target.

Why are they worth so much today? They were exclusive to the store. That means a black suit spider-man is going for...

Price: $150 USD

18 Marvel Legends: Black Widow And Winter Soldier Variant

Via YouTube (Hdtoytheatre)

Our next entry is an unlikely pairing, so unlikely it turned into a rare toy.

That's what happens when you put two characters from the Winter Soldier that doesn't include The Cap. This Toys-R-Us fan pack exclusive featured both the Winter Soldier and Black Widow in their comic skins. While some fans weren't very happy with the Winter Soldier featured in Marvel's film, others were thrilled. Those that longed for the comic skin bought this toy. Needless to say, it's a rare find nowadays.

Price: $300 USD (Collectors)

17 Storm - Jubilee Wave Figure

Via Thetoyark.com

A storm is amongst one of the most iconic X-Men, and this toy sure made waves when it dropped.

Amongst other things, what makes this piece really rare is the use of the Mohawk hairstyle which was used in the most recent iteration of Wolverine. It was also a part of the famous jubilee set of build-a-figure toys. For all those reasons, grabbing a new copy of this toy today could cost you a collectors price of...

Price: $250 to 400 USD (Amazon)

16 Marvel Legends: Blue Wasp Variant Series 15

Via LegendsCrazy.net

This next toy may be more obscure, but it's worth considerably more than what it was sold for.

In fact, some might argue that the series 15 (Modok) isn't an official release. For that reason, this entry is a bit of a renegade amongst the others. This variant of the Blue Wasp was made for a series of 15 marvel legends, which also featured the Wasp in her traditional red garb.

That's why this variant armor was so prized in hindsight.

The last one was sold on eBay for a price which may seem like a joke at first glance.

Price: $5,000 USD

15 LEGO Toy Fair 2012 Mini-Figures

Via minifigpriceguide.com

It's no surprise that some of these collectibles would be from LEGO. After all, the company has always been associated with iconic toys.

These mini-figures, however, were particularly rare because of the time at which they were 'sold'. They were actually an exclusive upon attendance of the 2012 Toy Fair. Some people with more qualifications (and cred) than I monitored the price of these mini-figures in the time that followed the fair. Generally, it fluctuated between...

Price: $300-400 USD

14 McFarlane / Campbell Spider-Man

Via Timelessproducts

This counts as a toy right? I'm not cheating, I swear.

Todd McFarlane has a very recognizable take on heroes and antagonists alike. This particular design which was done in collaboration with Scott Campbell mixed their two styles into a beautiful toy. Over time it's become rarer still because of the collaborative effort which brought it to life. The price varies but usually goes for about...

Price: $200-300 USD (eBay)

13 Sentinel Build-A-Figure

Via TFW2005

First appearing in X-Men #14 (1965), Sentinel may be a bit too obscure for modern fans.

However, the ones tasked with the preservation of the universe from the mutant threat have come to be quite respected for their toys. In 2005 ToyBiz released a build-a-figure entry for the Sentinel, and it has racked up a galactic price.

Keep in mind that this figure had to be put together out of separate pieces.

These have come to be quite rare, especially so if they're already assembled as a whole.  The toy goes for an approximate of the following price on eBay.

Price: $200 USD for the completed set.

12 Bowen Design: Invisible Woman

Via eBay (Brucevschuck)

I'm done! I swear, I'm done with the collector's edition figures after this.

But there are so many layers to this Invisible Woman piece, and that's why people love it. Not only do you get the iconic suit, but you also have a fantastic translucent effect on her feet which gives off the aspect of an ongoing fight (perhaps one they're losing). This piece is a limited edition one, only 1,500 were ever made. This 12" statue goes for...

Price: $100-150 USD, double or triple for the clear variant. (eBay)

11 Deadpool And Warpath 2-Pack

Via marvellegends.net

This next entry is one of the more coveted pieces.

The toy set is a limited 2-pack which was released including the famous Deadpool and the lesser-known (but equally awesome) Warpath. The two were shipped together with traditional amounts of weaponry (who would be surprised by that). Not only was this a rare 2-pack, but it was also an exclusive variant of their suits which were chosen by the fans. Gotta love the fans, and how their opinion affects the market.

Price: $250 USD (Amazon)

10 SDCC Exclusive: 2012 X-Force 3-Pack

Via theblotsays.com

Event exclusive items are always rare, especially if the event is the San-Diego Comic Con.

This next item was a very rare toy sold at the 2012 SDCC, one which is now very coveted online. The three figurines are of Archangel, Psylocke, and Wolverine around the events of the "Fall of Archangel". Not only are the figurines prime quality, but they also work together very well as a collectors 3-pack. Snagging one of these online is going to cost you a pretty penny.

Price: $300-500 USD (eBay)

9 Fearsome Foes: Vulture

Via Collectors.com

Again, I'm getting Marvel's Spider-Man (2018) flashbacks, and I love it.

This next entry is for one of Spider-Man's better-known enemy, who also made an appearance in last years Homecoming. This older rendition of the character, which has gone through numerous iterations, features a simpler suit which calls back the good old days.

The Vulture was included in a Marvel Legends Fearson Foes box set but has since become quite valuable on his own.

Price: $60-100 USD (eBay)

8 Hot Toys: Ultron Prime

Via YouTube (Anthony Stark)

The next two toys were created in the same, extremely rare, lines.

They were both produced for the (mediocre) film Avengers: Age of Ultron. This 1/6 replica figure by legendary company Hot Toys depicted the antagonist of the film, Ultron Prime. Notice the amount of detail which was given to the figure, and you understand why it's price has only increased over time.

Price: $350 USD (Amazon)
