Address
Neighborhood: Inner Vesterbro
This neighbourhood is home to Tivoli Gardens, a world famous amusement park and beautiful garden always worth a visit. Just west of Tivoli, you’ll find Copenhagen Central Station, from where you can reach just about every part of Denmark within 5 or 6 hours, or you can reach Copenhagen Airport in less than 15 minutes. Next to the Central Station, you’re in the middle of “old” Vesterbro, where several cultures and hundreds of languages are spoken in an area not more than one square mile. This neighbourhood is considered one of the most trendy places to live in and to visit in Copenhagen. For a real treat, visit Kødbyen ("meat town"), home to several restaurants, cafés and nightclubs, all within a short walk of each other.

We went on a Friday and there was a concert that night, so a lot of young people were there and were having a good time. It turned a little too cold for us to stay for the concert, but would recomend for an afternoon/evening.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 24, 2023

- Cindy B35 contributionsFabulous gardens as a backdrop to a themeparkBeautiful grounds with many places to sit and enjoy the beauty surrounding us. A theme park is hidden in the background. We were just there to enjoy the grounds and we certainly did. Would have liked to have spent more time there but were tired after a walking tour of Copenhagens city center. Hint: Visit first thing in the morning when they open and stay all day. Also, we visited on a weekday as suggested, it was less crowded.Visited June 2023Written June 29, 2023
- ZiftD58 contributionsThe First Great Amusement ParkIt helps to appreciate what Tivoli Gardens is and not come with the wrong expectations. This was the first true amusement park in Europe, built in the 1800s and was one of the places that inspired Walt Disney in designing Disneyland. It still has peaceful gardens and lakeside views and a lot of the old style charm. There is a large collection of mild thrill rides as well. It's not anywhere on the scale of Disney World or Six Flags, nor does it try to be. Most of the negative comments deal with the fact that the rides aren't included with the admission price, but this is something they state very clearly. Also, the basic admission is much cheaper than a place like Disney, and the idea is that people who don't want to go on the rides can come and watch without having to pay for everything.Visited July 2023Written July 23, 2023
- T-SGlobetrottersPreston, United Kingdom3,504 contributionsThere is benefit in planning ahead if rides are not your thingWe were in Copenhagen on holiday and had always intended to visit Tivoli Gardens although not for the rides. The gardens we knew about. Very well tended and presented with good successional planting so over the summer there is always something in flower. At the time we hadn't appreciated there is an entertainment programme, but some nights are clearly better than others so if you have flexibility it pays to plan ahead to schedule the visit with something you like. Concerts are quite eclectic with a wide variety of music and some well-known musical acts play from time to time. We arrived late afternoon so you get the benefit of gardens in daylight but as it gets darker, there are impressive illuminations. Other attractions are a daily light show scheduled 45 minutes before the park closes and on Saturdays a fireworks display. For non thrill seekers the attraction is still worth a visit but it pays to choose your dates carefully to maximise value.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten August 8, 2023
- Coryy20Port of Spain, Trinidad5,524 contributionsHas the wow factorI visited during the Halloween period and I was blown away by the decorations. Really impressed with the rides and the entire atmosphere. It was a bit expensive but was worth it. You are well protected because there were lots of security personnels inside and food outlets as well. There is a pond also with tiny boats for those so inclined to enjoy water sports. So many roller coasters as well. It was fun for all young and old. I will definitely recommend . The exterior of the building and the entire block is beautiful at nights. It gave life to downtown Copenhagen. A definite must visit for the entire family.Visited November 2022Traveled soloWritten August 24, 2023
- David W185 contributionsGreat fun parkWe were in Tivoli on our honeymoon in 1971. It was much more genteel then with lots of "gardens", but now it's a theme park. If you like being thrown upside down in the air and flung about then this is for you. Or maybe you just like to watch other people being scared? Having said that it is a great atmosphere and there are fountains and even the occasional quieter corners to enjoy. The eating places are quite pricey: we had an Italian meal once which was satisfactory, and another day we went to Tivoli Food Hall which was disappointing. Reffen is better (take bus line 2A to the terminus). We went twice to Tivoli: once on our Copenhagen Card and once with a ticket for a concert. The concerts of classical music are of a really high standard and the ticket includes admission to the Tivoli Gardens. Everyone at the concert (a violin recital) seemed to be Danish. Where were the tourists? They had suddenly disappeared!Visited August 2023Written August 27, 2023
- KyleVBLondon, United Kingdom9 contributionsBeautiful lit at nightFirst thing, yes it was expensive but it was worth it as a one-off visit because it didn't feel like any other commercial theme park. They've just about done enough to keep the authentic and historic atmosphere. There's no giant rollercoasters but the smaller nature of the park worked great. You can hop on 3 or 4 really fun rides in the time it would take to queue up for one giant rollercoaster at Disney. Lot's of mini-arcade spots as well to keep everyone entertained.Visited September 2023Written September 15, 2023
- stjean11Dorset, United Kingdom946 contributionsA Must do visitLoved Tivoli gardens I would say it is best to visit at night when all the lights are bright. There is a light show by the lakes at 21.30 The atmosphere was lovely. Plenty of places to eat , lots of shops. The rides were fantastic. It's a little way from the centre of Copenhagen so a bus or organised trip is recommended.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 26, 2023
- Bexxdamaster34 contributionsTivoli is worth a visit! For being such a small amusement park it really has a lot of fun things to do. And it is a really beautiful park too. The old wooden rollercoaster is really fun, especially in the back. Tic tac looks a little too much, but it was a really fun ride! The deamon was also amazing, a little short but with the space the park has, they have done an amazing job to build it there. And if you don't like rides, the park has a lot of games to play, and some calmer rides like a fairytale ride. And they have rides for the smaller kids too. So everyone can have fun here.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 2, 2023

Every tourist brochure touts Tivoili to the skies. It's the Mona Lisa of Copenhagen, but not half as interesting. That doesn't keep the crowds from flocking there, Danes and tourists alike.
Pay Disney World- or Great America- prices to go to a (granted, old) amusement park with most of the rides as old and old fashioned as the place is. So, in other words, don't go for the entertainment.
Sometimes there are headline acts on their sound stage and if you pick a lucky day (well, night), you may get to experience that.
If you're a huge fan of flowers, well then, hey... it's not called Tivoili Gardens for nothing. Lotsa flowers.
Personally I think the place is terribly overrated and far too expensive for what you get. I think your time and money can be far better spent in other ways, such as just wandering the streets, grabbing a beer on Amagertorv, by the Stork Fountain, the most central part of the inner city, on Stroget. Pay a visit to Illums Bolighus while you're there if you enjoy Scandinavian design items.
Basically, just walk around. That's the best thing to do while visiting Copenhagen.
However, if you insist upon visiting Tivoli anyway, you may wish to save a little time and go visit the New Carlsberg Glyptotek Museum around the corner. It was built by Carl Jakobsen who founded the Carlsberg Brewery, the brewery which owned an entire country. Jakobsen was a tireless collector of art and antiquities. This beautiful building houses quite a fair collection.
The National Museum (nearby Frederiksholms kanal and Gammel Strand) is also worth a visit. The Statens Museum for Kunst (a short walk from Nørreport station) not as much so.
Or do like the natives and hang out at one of the crowded local parks on a sunny day- if you are so lucky that you get one of those.

Tivoli Gardens is a beautiful place but I wish I had imagined it primarily as a garden and not as an amusement park.
As a garden, it's truly worth the price of admission. The old buildings are beautiful and there are flowers everywhere. A lovely place to take pictures and I think the price of admission was worth it for the setting alone. I went at 6pm so I could take daytime shots and then wait for blue hour for the famous shot of the Chinese Pagoda behind the lake. Pics came out great.
As an amusement park, this place, however, is seriously overrated. Maybe I'm just accustomed to more, but the thought of having to pay $15 to ride a C-list roller coaster left a bad taste in my mouth. I've paid $30 before to enter Hersheypark in Pennsylvania and ride ALL attractions (including 14 roller coasters).
Honestly, if you come in expecting Cedar Point, Hersheypark, Disney World, King's Dominion, Busch Gardens, Carowinds or any number of American theme parks, you'll leave horribly disappointed. The main attractions are a small number of mundane roller coasters (again charging $15(!)/90DKK to ride) and then kiddie rides. There's really no in between.
Personally, I'd recommend you pay for admission, walk around and then decide if you want to do the Unlimited Rides ticket. There's a kiosk inside the park where you can buy an Unlimited Ticket, so there's no need to decide at the gate. Pay for admission, walk around, and see if there's enough to justify an Unlimited Ride ticket.
Personally, the gardens are worth it, but the rides are not. So pay the 135DKK for entry, spend 2 hours walking around (it's not as big as other reviews make it out to be), see the daily programming (which I enjoyed a lot), take photos of the old pavilions representing all architectural styles, and grab some food (I'm happy to report the theme park's street food is the same price as outside fast food/street food, which was good to see). It's worth a visit, but come in with proper expectations.

I wonder why this adventure park is so famous in Denmark! It's a small well decorated area with fake snow, some snowmen and lights.....extremely expensive, more than average copenhagen cost of living. Many restaurants and souvenir stores inside, extremely expensive. I was curious to search anything there, but got really frozen thrilled on the prices. Anyway, let's focus on its' adventure games: you pay 145dkk (20euros) only to get in, You afterwards need to pay 230dkk(31 euros) if you also wanna enjoy the games, free fall, roller coaster etc. Don't be curious to explore it inside, anything you can see is visible from outside. If you don't care about money, it's a good pastime for your holiday for 2-3 hours.

Dear ZachosSymeon,
Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Tivoli Gardens.
We always appreciate to receive feedback as it helps us to see where we can improve the experience for our guests.
We regret to hear your visit did not live up to your expectations. It is correct that our prices are divided so those of our guests who are not interested in the rides do not pay for them - we have many guests who come for other reasons e.g. theatre, a big concert or the atmosphere and illuminations included in the admission. For tourists and families who are interested in a day with rides, the aquarium etc it might be of great value to notice our package solutions in our webshop,https://www.tivoligardens.com/en/billetter+og+tivolikort/pakker2020?_ga=2.188116014.720447358.1580715756-1207171199.1552644660

Our hotel was so close to this park we felt we just had to go and have a look. So glad we did! We were there in winter, very early January and we went at night. Christmas lights and decorations were still up. I loved strolling around and absorbing it all, but a lot of other people were having a great time on the rides. Children must love it! Walking past during the day, the atmosphere seemed quite different, but I'm sure in warmer months it would be amazing. We only spent an hour there, but I'm sure there are hours and hours of fun to be had, especially for families.

We downloaded the Tivoli app once we were in the park, which was easy with free fast wi-fi but do it beforehand and it has great deals on it! We used our Copenhagen card to get in but we could have downloaded the app and bought a ticket that got 3 people in and 3 free ice creams for DKK 565. You will also need the app for the virtual queueing system, this was really easy to use, just book which ride you want and then turn up when it tells you to. Scan your phone on the gold diamond by the ride and on you go. We didn't queue at all. Masks are needed on some rides but they are given to you as you get on. Hand sanitiser everywhere and floor markings in areas that may be busy. You can get your ride photos on the app as well - just scan the QR code. Loads to see and do in the park - boys aged 5 and 8 had 'the best day ever'.

We stayed in a hotel close by and thought there was a war starting! Trusty google figured out it was a firework display at Trivoli on certain Saturdays!
We went on a Monday instead but realised once in there that other than a children’s ballerina perforce, there was no shows etc on.
Felt sorry for the peacocks wandering around, seem to have none of their colourful tail feathers.
Food court was decent enough with plenty of food choice.
Two craft beer places and a German beer place.
The aquarium was one wall of fish and a small piranha tank, which we paid separately for (50dk each) which was ok for around £5.
As a couple, of only recommend going if you check for days where they have shows on, otherwise we walked round in under an hour and then sunbathed and had a beer to stretch it out.
More of a family friendly day out.

We bought tickets at the entrance and got ripped off. We paid DKK 220 per ticket and could have purchased online for DKK 145.
Either way the admission price is too high as it largely amounts to a cover charge. You still pay for the rides and restaurants although there are some shows that are free.
Despite the price we thought it was worth it to see the place at night. The park really comes alive with all of the rides lit up.
Many of the restaurants can be accessed from outside of the park. You get a stamp prior to entering the restaurant which allows you to re-enter the park. We ate at the Anarchist Bar which had good pizza and a good assortment of beer.
We were disappointed about getting ripped off but we’re glad we got to see the park at night.

We decided to visit Tivoli before the weekend crowds made it too manic. It was only a few minutes walk away and was quite lovely, decorated for winter and lit up. The crowds were bearable and it was very nice to have a wander around, fortified by a warming Irish Coffee. I'd forgotten how large the gardens were and we spent nearly 2 hours there and that was without doing any rides or sitting down for food. It was good that prices were sensible for people who just wanted to visit rather than do the rides, I think it was about £12 each.

On Saturday night the light show at 10.30 and fireworks at 11.30 are well worth it.
Rides are expensive though and not included in the entry fee.
Light show best seen from bridge facing the pirate ship and lasts about 5 minutes.
Fireworks last about the same time and can be seen from Pavillon.

I visited Copenhagen on a short break in October and Tivoli was on our itinerary.
The walk around the park was well worth the admission fee as the place has a feeling of timeless nostalgia as you walk around and enjoy the illuminations.
We didn’t feel the need to partake in the rides but if we had visited with our boys then I’m sure that would have been tempting.
Recommended if you are in the city.

Hi, can anyone tell me how much the rides are? I am trying to work out whether to but the pass including the rides.
Secondly has anyone been on New Year's Eve, did you get in OK as I expect it will be very busy.
Thanks in anticipation

Go directly to Tivoli Gardens official website and you will find all individual ride details and costs aswell as Ride Passes & Packages. For eg Aquila = 90DKK, The Astronomer = 60DKK, The Ferris Wheel = 60DKK. I would recommend getting one of the passes if you want to go on more than 4 rides. Entrance is not included.
But you will be closed on 24 DECEMBER? right?

It has been in previous years:
‘Tivoli opens for 'seasons': Summer, from mid-April to mid-September; Halloween for last two weeks of October to early November, and Christmas, from mid-November to January 2. In season it opens seven days a week. It's closed between seasons.’
But I can’t find a clear answer for 2024
