What happened to Mutt Schitt in Schitt's Creek? The character, played by Tim Rozon, was a recurring figure in Schitt's Creek season 1 and season 2. Rozon guest-starred in two episodes later on in the Canadian series, but many fans have wondered why Matt disappeared after the start of season 3.

In Schitt's Creek season 1, Mutt was introduced as the estranged son of Roland and Jocelyn Schitt (Chris Elliot and Jennifer Robertson). The bearded and brooding Mutt — who was much quieter and mysterious than either of his parents — instantly caught the attention of Alexis Rose (Annie Murphy) after the Rose family relocated to the town. Mutt and Alexis got to know each other in Schitt's Creek season 1 when they were both sentenced to community service for past crimes. Rather than living a life of luxury, Mutt was more of a hippie who lived in a barn and took interest in composting. Suffice it to say, he and Alexis were complete opposites.

Alexis had an obvious crush on Mutt but they both were dating other people at the time. When they finally acted on their feelings, Alexis was engaged to Ted (Dustin Milligan) but she later left him to be with Mutt. The relationship survived until the middle of Schitt's Creek season 2 when Alexis seemed to lose interest after Mutt shaved his beard. In reality, it was the communication issues that drove them apart. Following the breakup with Alexis in Schitt's Creek, Mutt mostly disappeared from the series. Here's what happened to Mutt.

Why Mutt Actor Tim Rozon Left Schitt's Creek

Schitt's Creek

After appearances in the tail-end of Schitt's Creek season 2, Mutt was only present for the first episode season 3. By this point, he was dating a conservationist named Tennessee (Sarah Power). He was initially last seen asking Alexis to watch his barn after planning an overnight trip with Tennessee to forage for pine cones. The trip must have lasted longer than expected because he didn't return until much later. Mutt's departure as a regular cast member following Schitt's Creek season 2 is due to the fact that Rozon landed a starring role on Wynonna Earp. There simply wasn't time for Rozon to appear on both shows. This would also explain why his subsequent appearances were guest spots, requiring considerably less shooting time.

In Schitt's Creek season 4, Jocelyn Schitt was revealed to be pregnant with another son. Mutt reappeared in the episode titled "The Rollout" just before the birth of his brother, Roland Moira Schitt. Viewers also learned that Mutt was newly single when he returned to town. Alexis was planning a Singles Weekend at the time but she still harbored feelings for Ted. Mutt tried to rekindle his romance with Alexis, but she had moved on and grown since he left. Seeing Mutt ultimately again gave Alexis the courage to face Ted in order to spill her heart out.

What Happens To Mutt In Schitt's Creek

Mutt doesn't appear again after his final appearance in Schitt's Creek season 4. By the end of season 6, Mutt's future — including where he might've relocated to and who he could (or couldn't) have ended up with — is a mystery. It was clear that Mutt and Alexis' romance was dead (following the same path as Alexis' previous boyfriends), but it would have been nice to see Mutt find someone suitable for his lifestyle. At the very least, Schitt's Creek could have explained what happened to Mutt in passing. For all anyone knows, Mutt's still foraging for pine cones somewhere. Maybe he even picked up a new job. Either way, Mutt's presence was nice while it lasted. Rozon's busy schedule kept him offscreen and Mutt's story ultimately open-ended. Meanwhile, Rozon continued starring in Wynonna Earp until the series was canceled in February 2021.
