A lot has changed for Tiffany Darwish—better known as Tiffany—since she first hit the airwaves 30 years ago. For starters, her sound is quite different. But one thing that has remained consistent is the level of support she feels.

Her latest album, Pieces of Me, came almost 30 years after her first album, Tiffany, which included her claim-to-fame song, “I Think We’re Alone Now."

“I don't think it's much different in the aspect of the excitement behind it,” Tiffany told Parade.com at the fourth annual Matthew Gavin's Marquis New Year's Eve party.

“Doing my first album, having people take me serious, getting that break…I feel the same way 30 years later—people accepting that I'm doing more rock music, that I am a live musician, that I'm still here 30 years later,” the 48-year-old said. “That I'm more than a one hit wonder, you know, that I'm an intelligent woman and a businesswoman as well.”

“I just really feel bubbling right now,” she added before taking the stage at the Marriott Marquis to perform. “And I think that's probably because of everybody that has come out to the shows to support me and told me their stories throughout my tours.”

The content of her music has matured a bit and her devoted fans have matured along with it. “We've really connected a lot of the lyrics of this album because I went through a divorce and a lot of death for my family unfortunately, and just all kinds of crazy that just happened in 10 years," she explained. "And a lot of people are living that right now.” She thinks connecting with her fans over this album and hearing their stories has made her a “better person.”

Tiffany, who was just a teen when she made it big in 1987, is incredibly impressed with all the young talent on the scene right now, but she really admires Taylor Swift for the devotion she has to her Swifties. “Taylor Swift is somebody who's spoken to me personally, because I can see the joy in her, she truly does love her fans and engages,” Tiffany said of her fellow artist. “And I think she's been very positive for a lot of the young girls out there.”

Tiffany rang in 2020 that night with her fans. And this year, she wants to “be kinder” to herself, to let herself “take a nap” sometimes: “You know, I'm a workaholic. I love it. So I get caught up in it, which is not bad. I can't complain. But you know, I do think that sometimes I need to just be still, turn off the TV, turn the phone off, and not feel bad about it."

She got into meditation six years ago and hopes to continue exploring that this year. “I really want to devote myself to it and make it a part of my life, because I really need it," she shared. Meditation “balances” her, she said: “I'm very much into Eastern philosophy now. I do a lot of crystals and I do a lot of oils. And a lot of soul searching.”

While she’s gone from popstar to rocker over the span of her career, she’s learned a lot along the way, especially over the past decade.

“I think more than anything, I’ve learned it's OK to feel what you're feeling, it's how you act behind it that makes a difference,” she said. “So being a redhead, Lebanese and German and a pop star, you know, I've blown it a couple of times. I get ideas in this head that are a little dramatic. I'm not a diva. I'm just a little dramatic."

She’s learned to let herself feel all of her feelings but has also realized she doesn’t have to “act on all of them.” “Give it a minute—I think that's what I've learned, to have peace with it and not to have to always get to the bottom of it,” she explained.

“In relationships and stuff like that, yeah, I want to get to the bottom of everything. But sometimes you just gotta be still with yourself. Just have peace and know that you'll be OK,” she said. “I'm really trying. I really am, because like I said, I don't have time for it. I'm busy loving my music.”
