Wirral Transport Museum & Heritage Tramway is a working museum and working heritage tramway preserving Buses, Trams & other local transport related vehicles We are open every weekend from 1pm (Saturday & Sunday) and during school holidays we are open Wednesday, Thursday & Friday plus every Bank Holiday Monday. you can ride on original fully restored heritage trams, see our collection of preserved local Buses and in the museum our ongoing restoration projects and a huge working Model Railway. A HISTORY OF BIRKENHEAD TRAMWAYS Back when Birkenhead was a pioneering industrial town it was the first place in Europe to adopt a street tramway. Those trams ceased operating in 1937, but in 1995 they were revived and you can now travel on one of a series of historic vehicles and experience tram travel for yourself. Trams dating from as early as 1901 operate to make the short journey from Woodside to the Wirral Transport Museum, where you can view the rest of the fleet - tram cars from Birkenhead, Liverpool, Wallasey and a recently restored car from Lisbon, Portugal. The Museum is a proud winner of the Wirral Unsung Hero of The Year 2012 with their volunteers. The transport collection was created as a celebration of Birkenhead's place in the history of public transport, and set up in collaboration with the volunteers of the Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society, who restore old trams. In addition to trams, the museum houses a collection of local buses in running order and a group of cars and motorbikes from the Baxter Collection. There is also a 27 foot long model railway layout. Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society Limited is a Registered Charity . No. 1092127.

I could have spent much longer here and will certainly be back again when I get the chance. First of all, it’s a lovely building in itself. Secondly, there’s a very interesting mix of fine art, furnishings and sculptures including a fabulous display about Wedgewood, the man and his pottery. Thirdly, there’s a great café downstairs with a good range of meals from sandwiches to soups and stews at reasonable prices. I had a lovely bowl of scouse, perfect for a cold wet day. Lastly, the gallery surroundings are also lovely, perfect for a walk and there’s plenty of parking and rail nearby for access. Highly recommended.

Travelling with a U3A group in the Liverpool area we arrived at this nearly hidden treasure. Only the skill of out driver facilitated our arrival at The Priory. The exterior looked uninviting and we all wondered “why are we here?”. The priory has an uninspiring presentation and an amazing interior. Get off the coach and look around the back!

Nice place to have a walk around and see the animals.
Cafe is a nice place, too, with plenty of options.
I thought they only did cakes, but they do have a pretty good menu and have lunch deals and offers.
Also, I love the sustainability of the buildings with the wild flower roof.

The Williamson gallery is situated across the River Mersey in Birkenhead.

It is around a mile on foot from Birkenhead Central station.

There is a diverse range of exhibits relating to the town’s maritime past as well as some excellent Della Robbia pottery from the late 19th/early 20th century.

Some great old photographs from the shipyards as well as models of the boats are on show.

I liked also the portraits of legendary local footballer Dixie Dean.

Unfortunately much of the permanent art collection was not available to view, but
I did enjoy the Going to the Match display which showcased LS Lowry’s iconic painting.

Admission is free but the gallery is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Went here to witness crime and the crime rate is high in this area and oh boy I was not disappointed.
Several robberies took place within the space of 3 hours, women and children robbed it was an amazing place to get a scoop for my newspaper.
Keep away from the drug addict looking people as they may be riddled with hep c or aids especially in this area.

This is a lovely little theatre in Birkenhead which puts on plays by local amateur theatre groups. Their website is very easy to use for the purchase of tickets although you can turn up and buy tickets at the door. On this occasion we went to see The Hollow (an Agatha Christie play) which was being played by the Woolgatherers of Heswall. The production was very good with great acting from all of them. At £10 for each ticket it was good value for money. The seats are fairly comfortable and you have a good view of the stage wherever you sit. The staff, who are usually volunteers, are very helpful and friendly. The theatre is upstairs but there are lifts available if needed .Behind the theatre is a large car park which is free after 1800. We visit a few times a year and always have a good experience.

The staff are just great here and are always ready to help. Not a bad selection of books here either. The copys can get a tad pricey if you are copying and printing dozens at a time.

A fine work of war art and a most moving monument to the fallen fellow pupils of my old school. The site in Hamilton Square is the perfect frame for an important piece like this/
