Description
The Vanguard is a major boss encountered on Wave 36 of Expert Mode, spawning near the middle of the wave, alongside the Avant Guard. He moves at an average speed along by having 
100,000 health and 
50,000 shield health. If you were struggling on the Avant Guards, then this boss can be a nightmare for you. The Vanguard, similar to many other bosses, has an ability that can render a group of your towers stunned.
The Vanguard is replaced by the True Vanguard on 'Ranked Up' Expert Mode.
Lore
"The Vanguard is one of the finest war generals that the Unseen Army holds. He rules over the units with an iron fist, and proves himself to be one of the most honorable generals the collection has seen. His final mission is to exterminate you, but both you and I know that someone's gonna die."
Appearance
The Vanguard has a similar appearance to the Avant Guard. He dons himself in black and green armor. A gem is placed on the chestplate. He also wears a black Valkyrie helm on his head. He possesses no facial features. His weapon of choice is a hammer, which he can use to stun multiple towers.
The previous version of The Vanguard is similar to the new version with slight differences. He wears a green Valkyrie helm. A green skull chained to his chestplate. Green neon bands are wrapped around his arms.
Tactics
- When facing with the shield health, X-4 Elite's Immolator Overcharge is very useful at depleading it quickly as the ability is also affected by 3x on shields
- Heavy DPS towers such as 4-2 Electricizers and 2-4 Vulcans are strongly recommended, as you're gonna want to take out this boss as quickly as possible.
- The Bugler can provide very helpful buffs to your towers, and it's Path 2 has the ability to command your towers to target a specific enemy it if need be. Have at least one of these at the ready if you can.
- X-4 Mechanic's forcefield generator can block the massive stuns from The Vanguard.
Trivia
- The Vanguard is the first enemy to have an article (The) in front of its name, the other ones being The Archangel, The Corrupted and The Nexus.
- The Vanguard is the only normal boss that spawns with another boss on its debut, the other being Avant Guard.
- It is confirmed that The Vanguard is actually True Vanguard's clone, and that there are multiple clones scattered elsewhere.
- This explained on version one why his body falls apart when he dies: his limbs were mass-produceable but more brittle, similar to the Weak Invader.
- There is a glitch within The Vanguard's hammer, where it does not disappear after using the Hammer Throw ability.
- The hammer instead stays on The Vanguard's hand.
- The Vanguard makes a deep snarling sound when he spawns.
- The Vanguard, along with the Robotic Overseer, appears in Hexagon Development Community's other game Evade as exclusive skins.
- His actual theme is "Oversized" by Peter Jordan, which is also used by Bobo in Evade.
