Elena is ecstatic when her husband Dominic tells her he is taking out as she never gets to leave the apartment except to go to work. When the night doesn't go how she thought it would, and she ends up traded to Ashton (the loan shark Dominic owes money to) she knows she'll do anything to help her husband. Ashton wants to help Elena, he wants her to see that the way Dominic has been treating his wife is not right, and she is allowed to think for herself and be her own person. Getting Elena to see these things was not an easy task for Ashton.
At times I wanted to scream at Elena for the things she did or thought, but I had to remind myself that she was emotionally abused for years and didn't know anything else. Seeing her open up with the help of Ashton was amazing, and it is awesome to see how much she changed from the beginning of this book to the end. For every few steps Elena makes moving forward, something always sets her back a bit. Ashton is there for every step of the way and works hard to show Elena she is worth so much more than she has been lead to believe she is.
The sexual chemistry between Elena and Ashton was out of this world. You could tell Ashton wanted her, but couldn't and wouldn't treat her like all other women in his life before her. The little things he does for her, end up being huge for Elena, and allow her to find herself, and for her to accept him into her life. Things weren't easy for them at times, especially still having to deal with Dominic, but I loved how Ashton let Elena make her choices, and was there for every step of the way. The way he is with her and how protective of her he is is definitely swoonworthy!
Traded is an emotional read that can be hard to read at times due to the subject matter, but it is absolutely worth reading. I loved seeing Ashton and Elena's story play out, and seeing Elena find herself again, and becoming so much strong was amazing. I adored this darker story from Rebecca Brooke and loved how this ended. A perfect read for someone looking for different twist on romance! I highly recommend Traded to all readers, but please note that if you have a trigger for emotional abuse, this may not be the book for you.
I read a lot of books, like a new book every two or three days. Some of the books I've read in the past have had to do with abuse whether it be emotional abuse or physical abuse. I think this book touches just enough on the emotional abuse for somebody to get a glimpse into what these women go through . Abuse doesn't have to be just physical, emotional abuse is a real thing that happens every day to so many people in the world.
Elena the main woman in the story has a emotionally abusing husband . Her husband goes into debt with the loanshark and does not have the money to pay him back so he decides to do something that no one would've ever imagined he would do, trade her for his debt. Ashton the loanshark is stunned when Elena's husband wants to use her as part of paying off his debt. Ashton sees the way her husband treats her and knows that if he doesn't step into try to help that things are just gonna keep getting worse and worse for her. Elana's husband treats her off and tells her to do what ever Ashton wants her to , which means sleeping with him if that's what he wanted . Ashton can see after spending a little time with Elana that she has been deprived of so much since she's been married to her husband. Ashton takes upon himself to work with Elana to get her back to the point where she can be an independent strong woman and stand up for herself.
The main reason I didn't get the story five stars is because it has a predictable ending . Elana and Ashton find love at the end of story but it takes them a while to get there. This book does contain sexual situations , so I would definitely advise that you be over the age of 18 before you read this book
This book deals with a very sensitive subject matter in a magnificent way. Portraying domestic violence in the form of mental and verbal abuse and what it does to a person is definitely not an easy task, but Rebecca managed to do it with so much care, realistically showing what years of suffering from this can do to a person’s self-respect: It decreased to almost nothing, until you no longer believe that you are worth anything at all and deserving of the treatment you receive.
Elena is married to a monster; no matter how hard she tries to please him, follow his every commands – it is not enough, never done right, only strengthening her belief that she is unworthy of her husband. She is not able to realize that what her abusive husband is doing to her is all kinds of wrong.
Dominic, her husband, is aggressive, impulsive and destructive – and a gambler that is deep in debt to a loan shark with no ability to pay it back. It seems only self-explanatory and –preservative to him to offer this loan shark his wife’s services to pay off said debt… What a douche.
Ashton, the loan shark, accepts, but for different reasons than one might accept. Because although he might work in a shady business, he does it not really by choice, it simply came with his family. Apart from that he has been raised to never disrespect a woman. So consequently a man trading his wife for a debt makes his hackles rise – witnessing the abuse she has to suffer himself, his accepting the trade only seems logical to him.
Ashton is one perfect hero. He sees something in Elena that she long had forgotten existed, doing everything in his power to bring this fragile woman back to life. Because with Ashton’s help, Elena slowly starts to blossom again – finding her self-worth and regaining her confidence. And Elena is not the only thing that blossoms…
The audio book is narrated by Honey Scarlett and Leeroy Will, who are both doing a terrific job, solidifying once more why I came to love dual narration. They are one perfect team. I loved Honey’s soft voice which perfectly fitted Elena and Will’s deep rumbly voice for Ashton. Even Dominic got the unappealing voice he deserved. I’m looking forward to listening more to their works!

A despeito do tema pesado, a autora pega leve no drama.
Trama, caracterização, ritmo e desenvolvimento da história são realizados com talento e sensibilidade num livro que conquista e prende a atenção do leitor. Recomendo.
the way she comes out her shell, the way he is growing along side her to be a better man. phenomenal.
Unbeknownst to her she's about to be traded for a gambling debt that she knows nothing about.
Ashton is the loan shark her husband trades his wife to for 3 months.
Ashton is a sexy alpha who helps with his father's loan shark business although he has 3 very successful restaurants.
He cannot believe the crap coming out this man's mouth when he offers his own wife as payment.
It isn't until he looks closer to the woman knowing she's emotionally beat down.
This book for me was captivating and had me reading in less than a day.
The characters and storyline was just so thought out that I loved this book which had me emotional at times. And this book is 100% a must read.
Rebecca Brooke is an amazing writer and I'm so looking forward to her next book. 5 stars are not enough to rate this fantastic read.
