Cebu prelates who tested positive for COVID-19 'on the road to recovery'

The two Catholic prelates in Cebu who recently tested postive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are now on the road to recovery.

The Archdiocese of Cebu shared the news on Monday, Feb. 22, in their Facebook page.

"Today Cebu Archbishop Jose S. Palma and Cebu Auxiliary Bishop-Emeritus Antonio R. Rañola are both on the road to recovery according to their doctors," read the News Bulletin.

"The doctors are hoping that they start to develop anti-bodies in their blood system," it further read.

The archdiocese asked everyone to "be one in praying for all who are afflicted."

On Feb. 19, the archdiocese announced that Abp. Palma tested positive for COVID-19 but remains to be in a stable condition and is under close medical monitoring by his doctors.

Days after, it also announced that retired Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Rañola also contracted coronavirus and that his health condition is stable.

According to the archdiocese, one of its priests, Father Russel Sungcad, was also hospitalized for COVID-19.
