      Season 1 – The Royals

31% Tomatometer 29 Reviews 74% Audience Score 100+ Ratings Power is everything, there are no limits, and trust is nonexistent for the royal family featured in this drama series. Queen Helena and King Simon try to present an aura of class and grace to the public, but the truth of the family's life is much different, as tainted politics and family issues threaten to cause chaos and turmoil for the royals. The monarchs' rebellious daughter, Princess Eleanor, provides lots of fodder for the tabloids with a life full of activities that include sex, drugs, and even hung-over helicopter rides. Her twin brother, Prince Liam, is a playboy who takes full advantage of being one of the planet's most eligible bachelors. It's a life Liam enjoys until his older brother -- and heir to the throne -- dies, making Liam next in line to inherit the throne. With that distinction comes much scrutiny, putting a crimp in his womanizing ways. After Simon's death, paternity questions about Liam lead to Simon's brother, Cyrus, ascending to the throne. Critics Consensus

The Royals is too crass and not not clever enough to rise to the level of camp it needs to rule.

Tom Conroy Media Life The show leaves the impression that the writers have never met a British royal or aristocrat and have never seen how a ruling class rules. Mar 18, 2015 Full Review Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe The Royals might have been more promising if it had been a little more ebullient and a lot more outrageous. There's something too ordinary about it. We want to be bloody gobsmacked, mate. Mar 18, 2015 Full Review Dave Schilling Grantland The navel-gazing on this show both ruins the trashy fun of the soap opera genre and is transparently hypocritical. Mar 16, 2015 Full Review Dominic Patten Deadline Hollywood Daily Yes, the drama is soap deluxe, but in the best tradition of Dynasty, Dallas and Fox's Empire, it is sharp too. Jan 9, 2019 Full Review Silvina Lamazares Clarín The Royals is clearly a dramatic series. But... at times satire and parody tempt you to change the label. Mike M This show had its issues most notably bad consistency in character development it flip flopped all over the place. But it had one hell of a premise which kept bring you back. Its a shame it did not get the final treatment it deserved. The least they could have done was wrap it up with an extra episode or two. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/13/22 Full Review Audience Member This would be one of the best & greatest tv shows I've ever watched in a long time! I'm so upset that they didn't release season 5 its one of the top popular shows on Netflix, I wish I could keep watching..well done to the people who created it. #KingLiam Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member So very, very bad, but I kept watching waiting for the irony - substantial waste of a one precious life. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This is just too aweful to watch, bad acting (especially Elizabeth Hurley but what else is new) with the exception of William Mosely, unrealistic writing. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the main couples begins their great love affair with rape. He lies to her about raping her while blacked out and taking photos of it to blackmail her into letting him rape her for real. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Great writers, characters and crew. Constantly moving story line, surprises around every corner. Any lead character could carry the show. Must see tv! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
