A wise man once said, “It’s a little wild and a little strange, when you make your home out on the range.” Okay, so maybe that wasn’t said so much as sung considering those words are part of the Hey Dude theme song, but it’s still a valid point. Wild and strange are two perfect adjectives to describe The Ranch, which wrapped up its four season run today as the final ten episodes dropped on Netflix.

The Ashton Kutcher sitcom about an ex football player who returns to Colorado to help his father and brother run the family ranch was never a mainstream hit, but the comedy did develop a passionate fanbase on its way to producing an impressive 80 episodes over four years. As of now, The Ranch holds the title of the longest-running Netflix original multi-cam comedy series.

Part 7 of The Ranch ended on a cliffhanger as viewers were led to believe that Colt (Kutcher), Beau (Sam Elliott), or Luke (Dax Shepard) shot Mary’s ex-husband Nick. The answer to that mystery as well as a quick recap of how The Ranch ended after one last Bennett family toast. Spoilers (obviously) ahead.

The Ranch Family

The first seven episodes of Part 8 deal with the mystery of who killed Nick. Both Colt and Luke were at one point arrested, but neither of them committed the crime. It’s eventually revealed that Mary’s daughter Heather (Kelli Goss) was the one who pulled the trigger, but Mary ends up taking the fall for her daughter. She claims self defense and eventually avoids jail and only gets probation.

Mary and Heather aren’t the only characters with a happy ending: Luke turns down a job offer because he wants to stay in Garrison to be closer to his family and work on the ranch; after a pregnancy scare, Abby and Colt decide they want to have another child; and Colt ends up using Rooster’s old Neumann’s Hill account to gain crucial evidence, which leads to Lisa Neumann dropping her lawsuit. Not only that, Colt gives Lisa his herd in exchange for Iron River Ranch.

“You always taught me the most important thing in the world is home,” Colt tells Beau during an emotional exchange. “Peterson Ranch is gonna make a nice house for me and Abby, but the Iron River will always be the Bennett family home. We got her back.”

The final scene ends just as you’d expect: The Bennett family sitting outside, counting their blessings, and sharing a bottle of whiskey.
