My wife and I stayed one night at The Prince of Wales this week as we were on business in Athlone.
This hotel would rank as one of the best I've stayed in for quite some time.
I was impressed how well they paid attention to all the many little details that can make or break a guest's stay.
Ample security coded parking for guests is fast becoming a rarity, but it is provided here.
Inside, the hotel has a clean comfortable well maintained lobby. Staff checked us in and out with both friendliness and professionalism.
Our room on the first floor was very clean, well serviced and comfortably appointed with shower/bath supplies tea and coffee making, there was even a Dolce Gusto with a few pods.
Beds had at least two pillows and were comfortable and there were even ear plugs provided should you happen to use them, which I often would even at home, but the room we had was quiet and tranquil.
The hotel bar was large, comfortable and staff serve a decent selection of beers and made my wife a quality Margarita.
We didn't avail of breakfast but would certainly do so in future as we subsequently found a dearth of places doing anything near a decent breakfast at a reasonable price in town.
All told, a fine professional service and an experience that I would easily repeat in the future.

We arrived at the prince of wales after spending a week travelling the west coast, we were met with great service and very good adherance to social distancing protocols (hand sanitiser readily available, temperatures checked before checking in) which put our minds at ease. We had booked a double room and had been upgraded to a deluxe suite which we were delighted with.

The room was great, bed super comfy and very modern ensuite bathroom.

Breakfast was included and was top notch, one of the best fry ups i've ever had in a hotel.

10/10 would stay here again

Thoroughly enjoyed my brief stay at the Prince of Wales in Athlone. Arrived after 1am after getting delayed at work and was no problem. I even got a couple of badly needed cold bottles of beer delivered to my room :) My temperature was taken when I checked in and there was hand sanitiser available at the front desk and at all elevators. Staff were super friendly and the room was lovely. Would definitely stay again.

I stayed here for my Hens Party which was chosen by my bridesmaids. The hotel itself was very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The rooms were ideal because there were triple rooms for all the girls who were attending the party and accommodation was reasonably priced. We didn't eat in the hotel except breakfast the following morning so cannot comment on the lunch/dinner. The bar was good fun that night and the DJ playing was also very good. The nightclub attached to the hotel is also good even though it has a much younger crowd. The location of the hotel is perfect for exploring the bars and restaurants of Athlone town centre. The breakfast was the only let down of the stay. It was not of great quality and as a coeliac it was so promising that they had a designated toaster catering for coeliac but when I requested gluten free bread they had none.

I have to say I have never had such a lovely hotel experience. From the moment we arrived there wasn’t a fault to be found. We ate both dinner and breakfast at the hotel during our one night stay. The choice of menu and standard of food for dinner was excellent. The cocktails and atmosphere in the Prince Bar were phenomenal. The staff were all so accommodating. Breakfast was served in the buffet by two lovely ladies who couldn’t have been nicer. The reception staff were extremely friendly - my friends parents were married at this hotel many years ago and with their upcoming anniversary my friend asked on the off chance if she could take a few pictures of the function room and without hesitation we were allowed access to the room for her to take pictures to send home. It was really a lovely experience. The rooms were spotless and the shower was good and strong with extra hot settings, something that’s very uncommon in a typical hotel. I will definitely return in the future. There’s parking to the rear of the hotel and plenty of shops and cafes surrounding. We went on a girls trip for one night and I’ll definitely be returning with my partner in the future! Thanks for a lovely stay.

We stayed here after a few days in various rural Airbnbs, and were very impressed by the lovely, well-equipped, spotlessly clean, spacious rooms at the Prince of Wales. The hotel is in a very convenient location not far from the bridge over the Shannon in the centre of town, and has a handy car park (free to guests) at the back. The only reason I haven't given a 5-star review was the breakfast – the cooked breakfasts were very good, but the continental option was very limited, just some dull bread and a few cooked meats and cheese, not even any croissants or pastries; I'm not sure if this was a glitch on that particular day, or is the usual situation. Also, with the cooked breakfast I'd prefer a buffet rather than a number of set options on the menu. Don't let that put you off too much, however, as there are some cafés just across the road that you could use for breakfast, and just enjoy the great rooms. The hotel is very good value for somewhere of this quality, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Staff we're friendly and attentive. The location is perfect with parking included making it very convenient to walk about town to enjoy the shops and fantastic pubs in Athlone. Rooms were warm and comfortable ( not high standard finished decor wise and no bath tub but, it was clean and had all we needed for a comfortable stay). Breakfast offered was Full Irish that was great quality, also cereal , fruit salad and juice options. We paid €84 total for Sunday night stay for 2 adults and you couldn't ask for anything better for that rate. An absolute bargain. Would definitely stay again.

The hotel is in the best location and the rooms are very modern and the bar is lively with a good food menu and nice attentive staff, however I was very disappointed that the espresso martini was made with pre-mixed coffee which made it taste awful I did complain and the bargirl made me new ones made with fresh coffee and they tasted really good. We had an issue with the location of our room as there was a couch outside and housekeeping set up at this couch in the mornings until the afternoon and they were very loud talking and laughing to each other it was constant and when they finished other guests sat down on this couch to talk on their phones and again the noise was very loud, it might be an idea to move the couch to a better location. The tiles and wooden floor in our room hadn't been cleaned as there was makeup on the tiles and muck on the wooden floor, also the heater only worked in the morning and through the day but not through the night which made the room really cold and there were no extra blankets in the wardrobe or option of a plug in heater.

We have stayed in many hotels across Ireland and this Hotel offered lovely rooms which were spotlessly clean and I know in most hotels the staff are very friendly but we found your staff exceptional, there was nothing they wouldn't do for you and the team work was wonderful, you didn't have to depend on the 1st staff member who served you, they were all so attentive, be very proud of the staff you employ, they deserve lots of praise. Food was delicious so much so that on our two night trip we ate both nights in the hotel and we were not disappointed. Thank you all for the lovely experience of staying in Prince of Wales hotel, regards Monica

Prior to booking hotel on 21.07.20 I checked with the hotel re parking and food. Parking ok and food was avail in the Bar. Hotel booked for 1 night stay on their website. I arrived at hotel at about 650pm on 22.07 and had to wait 10 mins for the receptionist to finish a call. When finished there was no apology and no welcome. I asked what time last orders were at and I was told there was no availability. Said booked guests are contacted and asked what time they want to eat. I had not been contacted. I asked to speak to a manager and a male spoke to me, Ass Mang. His attitude left a lot to be desired. I explained what I had been told. Said I had left home at 6am in morning and he said it was not his fault that I did not have lunch. Said that I did have lunch. Told me to go down the street to eat. As I left reception to go to my room he said have a gd evening. Sarcastic or what. I went to my room and the key cards would not work. I returned to reception and he said that he had allocated me the wrong rm. In the rm there was a list of drinks, but no mention of how to get food. Prior to departure on 23.07 I spoke to a Mang by the name of Shane. He apologised. I brought to his attention about the hotel's website relating to bus travellers: " after a busy day the hotel is the perfect location for your stop over". Amazing one person could not get food. No offer of eating in the foyer or my rm. I travel considerably on business and I have never been treated like this. 4 star hotel!!!
