It might change by next week and certainly by September HOPEFULLY for the better not the worst.

No alcohol sales at the moment. But that very well could change by September

We landed at JNB about 3P on 8 JUL and were going on to Botswana the next day so went directly to the test area (it was outside Entrance #1 (FYI-only Entrance #6 is operating so they can check temperatures) because our flight would be outside the 72 hour requirement. There was a line of about 10 people. The whole process took about 10 mins. We picked up the results hard copy at 8A the next day.

We needed a new covid test to return to SA from Botswana and had to pay $660 to make that happen (the camp arranged it).

Then we needed to get yet another test at JNB before flying back to the US (we purposely gave ourselves ground to deal with Covid complications). This time the testing tents were located on the ticketing level. Again it only took about 10 minutes . . . but we were charged $150 pp.

Glad it went well for you! I was told testing was %60-70 per person?

Costs can vary

Most pharmacy/labs charge 850 ZAR for PCR & 350-420 ZAR for the antigen test.

I had an antigen test done by Dis Chem at CPT for 420 ZAR

We had a medic come out to our greater Kruger private lodge and perform PCR tests, and it was 6K ZAR for 2 people

I am willing to bet some money that wineries will be open by 9 August, if not already by this Monday.

((The data shows that the peak of our 3rd wave has well and truly passed. This Sunday is our 2 weekly presidential address with updates, and rules change from the Monday following)

Are the wineries open for visits and food, even if you can't get alcohol? I know one had chocolate, one had a tiger...

Some of the wineries restaurants are open, so with a reservation you can walk the grounds etc. The best place to look is social media feeds from each location you fancy visiting.

Unfortunately not all businesses have survived covid. An example, DelVera was a centre of independent foodie businesses (olive oils, smoke house etc) on a reserve with mountain biking and hiking trails, but it is unclear which of the businesses might re-open there.

Edited to add if you don't know where to start looking, as well as the up-market restaurants listed in many guides, a number of wineries used to offer picnic lunches during summer. This would also be a good place to work out if the deli/lunch spots are open under current rules: https://insideguide.co.za/cape-town/picnic-spots/
