Actor tries to prove he can throw a football after awkward movie clip goes viral

Canadian actor Robbie Amell, who is best known for playing Firestorm in the CW’s Arrowverse, can’t throw a football. That was made abundantly clear when this clip from his movie The DUFF started making the rounds on Twitter.

That’s bad, but who cares? Amell isn’t paid to throw a football. He’s an actor, and actors tend to be bad at pretending to be star athletes. No big deal.

Well, we could have all just moved on then Amell decided to make it a big deal by personally responding to the tweet.

His explanation for the odd throwing motion actually makes a lot of sense…

But then Amell had to take it one step further and post video proof that he could, in fact, throw a football…

That … isn’t much better. It’s just the throwing motion we saw in the movie clip, only harder. That he interrupted date night with his wife to own the haters but ended up providing them with even more material only compounds the L.

Here’s another clip from the movie, presumably with fewer thousand-dollar cameras around preventing him from slinging it like Patrick Mahomes.

This actually looks better than the self-shot video. I don’t know if it’s enough to get his character in The DUFF the football scholarship he’s hoping for, but if Blake Bortles can get drafted to the NFL while throwing like this…

… anything is possible.
