Before Letterboxd existed, I wrote a scathing review of "El Búfalo de la Noche," probably on Twitter, that somehow came to Guillermo Arraiga's attention, and he answered back something polite. Still, this film is pretty bad.
It was Jorge Hernandez Aldana's debut, and it shows. Arriaga was on a roll, coming after a string of successful collaborations with González Iñarritu, and this was an adaption of one of his novels.
Even with him behind the adapted screenplay, the film can't help itself from being an over-sexed, inconsistent mess with aimless and shallow performances disguised as an "art film."
