Premise:Young Jedi Adventures is the first animated Star Wars series created specifically for preschoolers and early grade schoolers. It’s also set during the High Republic era, a.k.a. a few hundred years before the events of Episode I — The Phantom Menace. The series stars Avery as the voice of Jedi Youngling Kai Brightstar and Berman as the voice of pilot Nash Durango. Together these two will travel the galaxy, going on adventures and learning lessons in teamwork, patience, and friendship. In addition to streaming on Disney+, the series will also airs on cable via the Disney Junior network.

Look Out For: Lots more Yoda-isms!

Cast: Jude Law, Kyriana Kratter, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Robert Timothy Smith, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Tunde Adebimpe, Kerry Condon, Jaleel White

Premiere Date: While originally teased for late 2023, it seems more likely that Skeleton Crew will premiere in early 2024 instead

Filming Dates: Filming kicked off in September 2022 and wrapped in January 2023

Episode Count: 8

Head Writer: Jon Watts, Christopher Ford

Directors: Jon Watts, David Lowery, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, Jake Schreier, Bryce Dallas Howard, Lee Isaac Chung

Premise: This live-action series is set during the post-Return of the Jedi period that’s also home to The Mandalorian. The series has been described as a coming-of-age story about a group of kids, similar to The Goonies or E.T., but set within the Star Wars universe.

Look Out For: Jude Law, who is somehow only now making his Star Wars debut. Uh, also Steve Urkel is on this show and he’s apparently playing a pirate???

'The Acolyte'

Cast: Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson (Vernestra Rwoh), Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, Carrie-Anne Moss, Margarita Levieva, Joonas Suotamo (Kelnacca)

Premiere Date: 2024

Filming Dates: Filming kicked off in November 2022 and wrapped in early June 2023.

Episode Count: 8

Head Writer: Leslye Headland (Russian Doll)

Directors: Leslye Headland, Alex Garcia Lopez, Kogonada

Premise: The series takes place roughly 100 years before The Phantom Menace during an era of peace when the Jedi were less monastic and a bit more leisurely. There weren’t a lot of fights during peacetime! As Headland told Vanity Fair: “We’re taking a look at the political and personal and spiritual things that came up in a time period that we don’t know much about. My question when watching The Phantom Menace was always like, ‘Well, how did things get to this point?’ How did we get to a point where a Sith lord can infiltrate the Senate and none of the Jedi pick up on it? Like, what went wrong? What are the scenarios that led us to this moment?'”

Look Out For: There’s a Wookiee Jedi. Need I say more?

'Andor' Season 2

Cast: Diego Luna (Cassian Andor), Genevieve O’Reilly (Mon Mothma), Stellan Skarsgard (Luthen Rael), Adria Arjona (Bix Caleen), Denise Gough (Dedra Meero), Kyle Soller (Syril), Benjamin Bratt

Season 2 Premiere Date: August 2024

Filming Dates: Season 2 began filming in November 2022 and was expected to run through the end of summer 2023. However, the WGA strike and later the SAG-AFTRA strike put a pause on production starting in June 2023.

Episode Count: 12

Head Writer: Tony Gilroy (Rogue One), Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler), Beau Willimon (House of Cards), Tom Bissell

Director: Ariel Kleiman (Yellowjackets), Janus Metz Pedersen (All the Old Knives), Alonso Ruizpalacios (A Cop Movie)

Premise: This spy thriller, set five years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, will get into all the nitty gritty covert action of the early days of the Rebellion. Head writer Tony Gilroy, who also headed up reshoots on Rogue One, had this to say to Vanity Fair: “[Andor] gave his life for the galaxy, right? I mean, he consciously, soberly, without vanity or recognition, sacrificed himself. Who does that? That’s what this first season is about. It’s about him being really revolution-averse, and cynical, and lost, and kind of a mess… His adopted home will become the base of our whole first season, and we watch that place become radicalized. Then we see another planet that’s completely taken apart in a colonial kind of way. The Empire is expanding rapidly. They’re wiping out anybody who’s in their way.”

Look Out For: Season 2 of Andor will run up to the very mission that we see Cassian on at the start of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Expect some answers about Cassian’s past, and expect them to be unexpected.

'Star Wars: The Bad Batch' Season 3

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Cast: Dee Bradley Baker, Michelle Ang, Noshir Dalal

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 3 Premiere Date: 2024

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode Count: TBA

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Head Writer: Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars Resistance, NCIS); Dave Filoni, Athena Portillo, and Carrie Beck are attached as producers

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Director: Brad Rau (Star Wars Resistance, Star Wars Rebels)

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Premise: Set after the events of the Clone Wars and the animated series of the same name, The Bad Batch will follow the titular squadron of badass clonetroopers as they travel the galaxy, taking on gigs as mercenaries.

Look Out For: Over the past decade, Star Wars’ animated output has proven to be the most important piece of the entire canon. Characters and ideas from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels have made their way into the feature films and The Mandalorian. It’s likely that The Bad Batch will have a similar impact on the live-action stuff moving forward, so get caught up now.

'Lando' (The Movie?!)

Cast: Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian)

Premiere Date: TBA

Filming Dates: TBA

Episode Count: TBA

Head Writer: Donald Glover and Stephen Glover (Atlanta)

Directors: TBA

Premise: Knowing how ambitious and unpredictable the Glover brothers’ work on Atlanta and Swarm were, there’s truly no telling where this series could go with them in the cockpit.

Look Out For: — this to actually premiere on a theater screen near you. After initially being developed as a Disney+ series, co-writer Stephen Glover said in September 2023 that the project is now being envisioned as a film.

'The Mandalorian' Season 4

The Mandalorian Season 4 Cast: Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin)

The Mandalorian Season 4 Premiere Date: TBA

The Mandalorian Filming Dates: With the SAG-AFTRA strike underway, Season 4 won’t be going in front of cameras for a while.

The Mandalorian Episode Count: TBA, but presumably 8 like in previous seasons.

The Mandalorian Head Writer: Jon Favreau

The Mandalorian Directors: TBA

The Mandalorian Premise: What started as a series about a lone gunslinger (Pascal) roaming the galaxy collecting bounties has turned into a galaxy-spanning search for a mysterious child’s (Grogu!) home. That journey dropped Din Djarin into battle with monsters, spiders, and warlords. He also teamed up with other Mandalorians and even a former Jedi (Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano).

Look Out For: The Mandalorian Season 4 could return the show to its episodic, adventure-of-the-week format now that Din and Grogu have a home to call their own — or will they keep blasting their way from planet to planet?
