The Mandalorian, also known as Star Wars: The Mandalorian, is a live-action Star Wars streaming series created, written, and executive produced by Jon Favreau. It debuted with "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" on November 12, 2019 on Disney+. The first and second seasons have been released, and the third season is currently in production. Two spin-offs, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka, have since been announced.

Premise

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone Mandalorian gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

Development

On November 9, 2017, Disney chairman-CEO Bob Iger announced a live-action Star Wars TV series to air on its entertainment streaming service that was expected to launch by the end of 2019.

On October 3, 2018, executive producer and writer Jon Favreau provided the title and premise for the series via his Instagram.

On October 4, 2018, StarWars.com officially announced The Mandalorian, along with a first image of the protagonist and a list of directors and executive producers, including Dave Filoni, who would direct the first episode.

On December 12, 2018, StarWars.com revealed the cast of The Mandalorian, including Pedro Pascal in the title role.

Sometime prior to February 15, 2019, production on the first season wrapped.

On August 23, 2019 at the D23 Expo, an official trailer and poster were released.
