I'm going to need you to remember back to the very early days of the MCU. Robert Downey Jr. was Tony Stark, played with all the snark and charisma you could ever want from a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist character, and Edward Norton was the tortured Bruce Banner, a role he wasn't destined to hold on to.
A "Captain America" movie was coming up and ... well, people had opinions. Some wanted a grounded Cap, some wanted a badass Cap, and some wanted something more in line with Rdj's Tony Stark. The thing is, we had never gotten a good Captain America on screen before. We'd gotten one terrible "Captain America" film in 1990 from schlockmeister Albert Pyun ("Cyborg" and "The Sword and the Sorcerer"), and the character had pretty much fallen out of favor to all but the most die-hard Marvel comics fans.
He was too Goodie Two Shoes, at least that was the perception,...

Chris Evans and Idris Elba teamed up for another comic book movie long before they worked in Marvel. While on set, Elba couldn’t believe the phobia his co-star had.
Why Idris Elba couldn’t stop laughing at Chris Evans on the set of ‘The Losers’ Chris Evans | Cindy Ord/WireImage
The Losers was Elba’s 2010 adaptation of the comic book of the same name. It saw the actor team up with Chris Evans and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as mercenaries on a dangerous mission. As one of the first comic book movies Elba starred in, he admitted he felt quite nervous doing the project.
“It’s a hard line to follow, because comic books are followed because of their, brilliance, and detail in their story line. You can live in this world and not share it with anyone else,” Elba once said according to Hey U Guys. “Ultimately there is...

New comic-book publisher Dstlry is beginning to roll out its first round of first issues, beginning with Gone #1 by writer-artist Jock. Launching October 25th, Gone is a science-fiction adventure tale about a young girl named Abi who finds herself trapped on a massive cruise-liner for the uber-rich — along with a crew of militant rebels, too.
While the success of Dstlry’s experimental publishing model, being so new, is yet to be measured or assessed in any meaningful way, one thing is certain: the new publisher from two former ComiXology executives has attracted a massive roster of talent from across the comics industry. Among the founding creators is Jock, a celebrated artist known for his work on Batman titles and creator-driven projects such as Wytches with Scott Snyder and The Losers with Andy Diggle, among others. Gone is his first creator-owned project as both artist and writer.

The main reason why a sequel to The Losers never happened is because the first movie flopped at the box office, making only $29.4M worldwide compared to its $25M budget. Despite blaming Warner Bros. and the marketing campaign, the trailers for The Losers accurately represented the film's action and comedy. However, it faced tough competition from other blockbuster releases at the time. The chances of a sequel happening now are low, as the original cast, including Chris Evans and Idris Elba, have become big stars and would demand higher salaries. A potential series was planned, but there have been no recent updates on its development.
Despite big plans, fans are still left wondering why The Losers sequel never happened. Based on the DC/Vertigo comic book by Andy Diggle, Warner Bros. began developing a movie adaptation of The Losers in 2007. The film was directed by Sylvian White based on a...

Chris Evans opened up about why he was hesitant to take on the role of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Evans admitted he feared that his career would be over after taking on the Marvel role. While filming the 2011 movie Captain America: The First Avenger, which was the fifth MCU film, the actor detailed how he felt. “This is it. I just signed my death warrant; my life’s over. I can’t believe I did this. This isn’t the career I wanted,” he said. “The biggest thing I was worried about was making sh*tty f**king movies. I don’t want to make sh*tty movies and be contractually obligated to make garbage.” Evans’ fears were eased when he realized the Captain America movies were good.

With summer behind us, it’s time to embrace the Fall season ahead. Pumpkins, black cats, and deadly rats. Be sure to keep an eye on your watch as the sun hits that horizon much, much earlier this time of the year. Before you know it: Full Dark, No Stars. Alas, The Losers’ Club has reached the next novellas collection in their journey through Stephen King‘s catalogue.
Released in November 2010, King’s third novellas collection — following 1982’s Different Seasons and 1990’s Four Past Midnight — captures the legendary author at his deadliest. No shit. King is truly the Master of Horror within these four sordid tales of retribution: 1922, Big Driver, Fair Extension, A Good Marriage. These are the stories that never leave the mind.

Chris Evans wasn't a big comic book reader before starring in Fantastic Four, but he has since become well-versed in superhero stories. Evans was ecstatic to play Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four, as it was one of his biggest roles at the time, and he could relate to the character's youthful exuberance. Despite not being initially into comic books, Evans has now played major roles in both Marvel and DC projects, showcasing his versatility as an actor.
Marvel star Chris Evans is Captain America. For an entire generation of fans, the actor is and always will be synonymous with the role of Steve Rogers and his super-powered alter ego in the confines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But before Iron Man (2008) marked the beginning of the MCU, Evans starred as another Marvel Comics’ hero in 2005’s Fantastic Four. However, he didn’t have much knowledge of comic books back in those days.

World War II has served as inspiration for some of the greatest movies ever made. The intense and gruesome war lasted from 1939 to 1945, with all the world's major powers playing a role. The war spilled onto almost every continent, with battles ranging from North Africa to East Asia. Many nations, even outside the United States, have their own mythologies around the war that influence their war movies.
The Second World War has inspired a range of films virtually every decade since the war ended. Many acting careers have peaked in WWII films, which are naturally full of emotion and pain – requiring great tonal range. The war has also been responsible for some of the biggest productions in cinema to capture its enormous scale.

Chris Evans has already left the Captain America shield behind now that Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson is taking over the First Avenger mantle, but the actor still has a lot to offer to the superhero genre, and he could do it by joining the Dcu.
With the many changes that are currently undergoing in James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios, a new version of many iconic heroes from DC Comics are coming to the big and small screen, and Barry Allen may be one of them. Although Ezra Miller has delivered a more than decent performance of the Scarlet Speedster, The Flash star has played a major part into the movie's flop, since the many controversies surrounding them has led many people to not wanting to see the film.
So with the continuity of Miller in doubt, a new actor could take over the role in the future,...

Jock, an acclaimed artist who previously did work on Batman, is releasing his own creator-owned series through Dstlry. Dstlry is a new comic book publisher founded by David Steinberger and Chip Mosher, who used to work at ComiXology up until last year. Lately, Dstlry has been promoting The Devil's Cut as its first release, but that's not all the publisher has in store for readers.
As part of this week's San Diego Comic-Con, Jock spoke to Entertainment Weekly about Gone, which will be spinning off from The Devil's Cut anthology. Gone will be an oversized, 48-page book that will be written, drawn, and colored all by Jock himself. The sci-fi epic is currently slated for an October release. Through Instagram, Dstlry has unveiled preview images and cover artwork for Gone ahead of its release. The images suggest an Alien-like tone, stressing the infinite danger that can exist when trapped in the isolation of space.

The Lost Boys star Jason Patric teams up with Never Back Down star Cam Gigandet in the upcoming action outing, Shrapnel, and we’ve gotten our hands on an exclusive clip. Coming courtesy of Saban Films, Shrapnel promises the kind of no-nonsense action that can sometimes really hit the spot as Patric and Gigandet embark on an R-rated mission for revenge. Check out our exclusive clip from Shrapnel below.
“When Sean’s daughter goes missing on the Mexican border, he teams up with his former Marine partner (Cam Gigandet) to face off against the cartel who kidnapped her,” the official synopsis for Shrapnel reads. And it is certainly a synopsis that suggests Shrapnel will strip away the fat and serve up all manner of action movie delights.
The footage finds Patric’s character Sean Beckwith turning to his brother in arms, Cam Gigandet’s Max Vohden, for advice after his daughter is kidnapped.

While every decade has movies that fly under the radar, the addition of multiple streaming services in the 2010s gives us quite the list to work off of. While everyone’s favorite decade for horror is usually the ’80s or ’90s, there are far more hidden gems to find now than ever before. How a movie with a great cast, good production value, and the vaunted “based on a true story angle” was somehow successful at the box office and entirely forgotten just a little over a decade after release is just bizarre. Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead Deluxe #65 Throughout the entirety of The Walking Dead, Rick Grimes has no shortage of kills under his belt, ones that range from gruesomely tragic to brutally epic. However, one in particular from the comics was actually cut from the show, despite the fact that it was easily the coolest kill of the bunch.
The Walking Dead primarily follows Rick Grimes after he wakes up from a coma only to find himself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. While the undead were the cause of societal collapse, fans of the series will find that they aren’t the primary antagonists. It seems, with no structure of law and order, it’s people who become the monsters, even in a world filled to the brim with literal zombies. This means that Rick found himself against wicked humans just as much as undead monsters,...

Comic book movies used to be a niche before the 2000s, but they now lead the cinema industry, and audiences might not even know that the best comic book movies that aren't about superheroes are based on comic books. A billion-dollar-grossing sci-fi franchise, a deeply disturbing Korean thriller, and a Palme d'Or-winning LGBTQ+ drama are all adapted from comic books. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe, X-Men, and the DC Extended Universe reign supreme, a surprising number of other comic book movies that are unrelated to those universes have nothing to do with characters with superpowers.
Even though a lot of original movies still get produced, the current cinematic landscape is mostly filled with reboots and adaptations of books that the studios own the rights to. However, there are many brilliant original dramas in comic books too. Between a gangster revenge epic, a former assassin hiding his past from his family,...

Ghosted is the latest action-centric romantic comedy from Apple TV+, a studio that certainly knows how to assemble a fairly impressive team of storytellers. The film was directed by Rocketman filmmaker Dexter Fletcher, and written by Deadpool scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. After Cole falls in love with the enigmatic customer Sadie Rhodes (Ana de Armas), he subsequently discovers that she’s an undercover spy working on an international case. Cole is then thrust into a world of action, espionage, and danger that he’s completely ill-equipped for.

Director Michael Cimino Didn't Want The Deer Hunter To Feel Like A Political Statement About Vietnam
In a 1977 New York Times article, director Michael Cimino was asked how big of a role the Vietnam war would play in "The Deer Hunter." He replied, "The war is really incidental to the development of the characters and their story. It's a part of their lives and just that, nothing more. I have no interest in making a 'Vietnam' film, no interest in making a direct political statement."
Released the same year, Francis Ford Coppola's "Apocalypse Now" contemplates the moral ramifications of war whereas "The Deer Hunter" considers how it affects the homefront. "The Deer Hunter" is the story of a group of friends — Michael, Nick, and Steven — that belong to a tight-knit Russian Orthodox community in rural Pennsylvania. With the exception of the infamous Russian roulette scenes, the film focuses on their struggle to assimilate into their community and reconcile their trauma after participating in the Vietnam war.

Here's everything you need to know about Creature Commandos, an animated series set in James Gunnn’s new Dcu. A “Monsterverse meets Captain America’s Howling Commandos,” the Creature Commandos are among the most obscure DC teams, especially because they do not interact with the main DC heroes like the Justice League very often. Still, considering that James Gunn is set to focus not only on DC powerhouses like Superman but also on lesser-known characters, similar to what he did in Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, a Creature Commandos animated Dcu TV show tying into a larger universe makes a lot of sense.

Pennywise is the evil Clown from It, the novel by Stephen King that's been adapted into two films and an acclaimed 1990 miniseries starring Tim Curry as Pennywise — but what is the Pennywise the clown origin story? Pennywise isn't a stereotypical slasher villain, though. Much like Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street, Pennywise the Clown is a supernatural foe that has all kinds of nightmarish powers at his disposal to terrify his victims. The residents of Derry, Maine are visited by Pennywise every 27 years, and Stephen King's creepy clown never leaves without racking up a body count. But who is Pennywise, the clown from the It movies and the Stephen King novel? Here are the origins of Pennywise the clown from the 1986 Stephen King book, Andy Muschietti's 2017 It, and the 2019 follow-up, It: Chapter 2

In 1978, the man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed. In 2004, the gunslinger’s journey came to an end. Sort of.
The Losers’ Club concludes its sprint through the final volumes of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower saga with an episode about, what else, 2004’s final chapter The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower. Across more than 1,000 pages, Roland and his ka-tet traverse the multiverse, bouncing between numerous wheres and whens on their quest to save a world in swift decline. A number of new (and quite hungry) antagonists, some of whom might be familiar to Constant Readers, emerge in these pages, giving the Losers plenty to unpack in this epic two-part episode.

Zoe Saldaña, star of the Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy film series, opens up about her struggles while working on some of cinema's biggest franchises. Saldaña got her start in the early aughts, starring in films like Center Stage, Crossroads, and Drumline. Through hard work and undeniable skill as an actor, she rose to fame, eventually going on to feature in massive franchises like Star Trek and the MCU, cementing herself as a household name.
While speaking with Women's Wear Daily, Saldaña discusses her time working on several high-profile franchises. The actor expresses gratitude for the opportunities, but quickly explains that she has felt trapped by her work, being stuck in massive franchises with little growth as an actor. Furthermore, she elaborates on the struggles women (especially those over 40) contend with in the industry. Check out Saldaña's comments on the struggles of big franchises below:

“The Dark Tower Is Boring”: The Losers Debate Your Stephen King Hot Takes [The Losers’ Club Podcast]
The Losers’ Club find themselves in Hell, where they’re surrounded by the most scorching Stephen King hot takes they’ve read to date. How scorching? Take a gander at a few: “The Dark Tower is boring…”; “Gerald’s Game isn’t scary…”; “Bill Hodges is good actually.” The takes go on and on like this, and, as Glenn Frey sang, the heat is on.
After nearly four years, if you can believe it, the Losers are back with another installment of Firestarters, which sees the Club sift through myriad hot takes submitted by their Overlook patrons. After waiting for them to pile up, each one is then classified as mild, medium, or hot, and, let’s just say, you’re gonna need some milk as this episode rolls on.

Stephen King loves autumn. So many of his novels are chock full of crunchy leaves, sweater weather, and the kind of dusks you can only find in October and November. Like Halloween, though, he’s never really had a story set around Thanksgiving. Instead, he’s used the holiday to help set the table, to borrow a very obvious pun, for a number of his sordid stories.
That’s why The Losers’ Club is celebrating this year’s Thanksgiving in King’s Dominion by digging up all his tastiest tales for you, Constant Listeners. Yes, just as they did for Halloween, Christmas, and even Valentine’s Day, the Losers are turning to the stacks to name the 10 best Stephen King titles everyone should be reading before the turkey’s sliced and diced.

Our own Max Evry just spoke with actor and makeup effects legend Tom Savini for the 40th anniversary of "Creepshow." In their conversation, Savini recalled a tale about a lesser-known film in director George Romero's oeuvre called "Knightriders." After the runaway success of the 1978 sequel "Dawn of the Dead," Romero was given carte blanche to make an Arthurian biker movie about a Renaissance troupe who travel the countryside mounting jousting tournaments on their motorcycles. How anyone would not rush to the theater to see that is beyond me. Savini and Ed Harris (in his first starring role) helped to bring Romero's modern medieval vision to life, but the ambitious project failed to ignite the box office, causing Romero's newly found freedom to suddenly be reeled in significantly.
Years before "Dawn of the Dead" and 1981's "Knightriders," Romero was already thinking about making something set in the Middle Ages, recalled Savini.

Stephen King's 1986 novel "It" contains a whole lot of story. Over its 1100+ pages, it recounts a battle between children and an ancient, malevolent entity known sometimes as the title's name. At other times, "It" is a werewolf, a mummy, a leper, and most famously, Pennywise the Dancing Clown – whatever its child-target fears the most. As such, the seven kids – known amongst each other as The Losers Club – each have storylines dedicated to their interior lives and how it informs each individual fear. Any adaptation is bound to be lengthy.
When the time came to adapt the behemoth work into what would become the 1990 ABC miniseries, ambitions were high on the filmmaking side of it; at one time we could have had the Godfather of Horror, George Romero, taking the reins before "Halloween III" director Tommy Lee Wallace landed the gig. As "It" screenwriter Larry Cohen tells Yahoo in an oral history of the miniseries,...

As Bob's Burgers returns to the small screen for its thirteenth season, fans of the series are certainly in for a treat as the Belcher clan serves up more of the comedy musical shenanigans that viewers love. Even though the show's unique sense of humor has a huge fanbase, some viewers weren't entirely pleased with their order and took to the internet to voice their complaints.
Whether it was contrary thoughts on characters like Gene and Linda, or questions about the show's family-friendly vibe, many Reddit users weren't picking up what the Belchers were putting down. Despite all the song, dance, and heartwarming family moments, Bob's Burgers wasn't immune to the internet's hot takes.

Constantine: The House of Mystery is essentially a series of previously released DC animated shorts tied together with an all-new short based on the adventures of John Constantine in the titular House of Mystery (which was also the name of a DC comic back in the day that introduced the likes of Swamp Thing). Surprisingly, the animated short is actually set after the last series of DC animated movies, before the recent reboot in 2020, when the Justice League faced Darkseid and the Apokolips War and ended the then 15-movie run of animated DC features.
Constantine: The House of Mystery starts directly after the end of Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, with the heroes licking their wounds and realising the end of the world was still nigh.
