Today we’re going to take a look at where to watch The Lord of the Ring: The Fellowship of The Ring and what streaming service you can find it on.

Recognized as one of the most influential films of all time, "The Fellowship of the Ring" was the movie that started it all for Jackson’s renowned trilogy of fantasy films. Adapted from the first novel by author J.R.R Tolkien, "The Fellowship of The Ring" introduced audiences to the fantasy world of Middle Earth and some of the characters that inhabited that land, both good and bad. The Fellowship that the title mentions is the group that was created with the purpose to destroy the One Ring and to finally get rid of the Dark Lord Sauron who has been plaguing Middle Earth for thousands of years. "The Fellowship of the Ring" introduced us to actors like Viggo Mortensen, John Rhys-Davies, and Billy Boyd, who were largely unknown before being revealed as characters in Jackson’s movie. Originally released in 2001, you can now get back into Jackson’s fantasy world as it is now available to stream.

So how did Peter Jackson end up with becoming the director of LOTR? After all there had been many previous attempts to get the dense trilogy on screen and the rights to "The Lord of the Rings" had passed through many different hands before eventually landing on Fantasy Films, owned by Saul Zaentz. Fantasy Films were the company who funded an animated feature of the first half of "The Lord of the Rings" initially released in 1978. Ralph Bakshi was the animator who headed the feature and done a good job at condensing the large storyline into a rather palatable 133 minutes. Although profitable, the animation didn’t warrant enough success for sequel and the project was eventually abandoned. During this time, a young Peter Jackson saw the 1978 animation and although enjoying it, thought it became a little disjointed. It did however, encourage him to pick up the books and a love eventually formed.

In 1995, a relatively unknown Jackson, who was mostly known for his over the top graphic horror, discussed with his wife Fran Walsh the possibility of creating a trilogy that would do all the books' justice. After agreeing this would be within their skill set, the pair went to Miramax who helped them buy the rights from Saul Zaentz. Jackson started to write the scripts for the first two "Lord of the Rings" movies and as these took shape it soon became apparent that a trilogy of "Lord of the Rings" movies would exceed Miramax’s budget. Under pressure to cut the scripts into one film, Jackson put forward the proposal to New Line Cinema as the director wanted to do Tolkien’s books justice and believed this could not be done in one film. New Line CEO Robert Shaye took on board this proposal and eventually signed to buy the rights and to fund Jackson’s trilogy and as they say, the rest is history.
