Pros - beautiful spa operating well within COViD restrictions. Good COVID measures throughout. Pools and walled garden meet the expectations of a 5star hotel.

Cons - the rooms! Poor quality beds, minimal amenities, dated TV / speakers, worn dressing gowns

We booked a delux king with garden views. Our king bed was in fact two beds pushed together with a cheap topper on it, this was extremely uncomfortable. The pillows were poor with no spares in the room. Dressing gowns were old, poor quality and had holes in them. The TV pictures was often pixilated during viewing and movies struggled to play. The TV greeted a different guest name. No coffee machine, just a one person cafetière, sachet milk (not fresh)no biscuits etc, only a single bottle of still water in the fridge. Expect less comfort than a Holiday Inn.

Took my wife for our 10yr wedding anniversary, whilst our time in the spa was great, the “luxury” room left us feeling underwhelmed and wishing we had booked else where.

We recommend you visit the spa on a day package and avoid a stay in the hotel.

With two grandchildren, of varied ages we enjoyed a relaxing and stimulating stay at this prestigious and professionally run hotel. All the staff, without exception, have a commitment, to the guest ,of going the extra mile. From my initial enquiry to reservations (thank you Monika!) to our Checkout (Jonathan thanks!) we were made to feel special, valued, comfortable and safe in the gorgeous hotel and the beautiful grounds.
Mentions:
to Jack in activities, Segway is our new mode of transport!
Emma in the pro Golf department
Spa staff who unexpectedly had us invade their pool as the children’s pool had a minor glitch, we loved it.
Jacek in the marvellous new Glassshouse and all the staff there
Golf buggy chauffeur an absolute thrill and driven with panache (sorry forgot your name)
Horticultural gardeners who are achieving amazing results in the walled garden and gave us time to explain their methods....Wisley look out!
And finally Housekeeping who provide a warm cosy and beautifully equipped bathrooms and bedrooms so discreetly that you think a fairy has flown in to turn down the beds!
We are looking forward to coming in the summer.
Well done!

We took the plunge and decided to stay here for our first holiday as a family. Driving there took around 1.5 hours from South East London and there’s plenty of on-site parking available. As a side note, the website states a different postcode to enter if driving, we did that and Apple maps took us somewhere else, I would just enter The Grove in your sat nav rather than use the post code on their website.

Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff but our room wasn’t ready. Check in was suppose to be 3pm and we arrived a little bit later than 3. As we were waiting, they offered us a seat at the bar and gave us a couple of drinks. It wasn’t long after that our room was ready and our bags delivered.

The room was very spacious, plenty of space for a toddler to run about. Two separate bathrooms, 1 toilet though. The decor felt a bit old. The best thing in the room was the bed. It’s the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in.

The attractions are really good for kids. My daughter loved playing at the beach and going into the kids pool. She loved running around especially in the garden.

Breakfast buffet was great, plenty of choices. Dinner at The Staples and The Glasshouse was great, friendly staff with a great service. Very accommodating.

Now onto the negatives or it could be just me nitpicking.

Staff left a bottle of surface cleaner in the room, not a big deal I just handed it back to reception. We thought we lost the tv remote, looked everywhere for it but suddenly appeared the day after. I think it was taken by accident when the surface cleaner was left behind.

Restaurants don’t offer children cutlery so bring your own if you have to.

There were times when ringing services from our room would take a little while for anyone to answer. But when they did, staff are accommodating and friendly.

The lockers in the changing rooms ask for £1 but I stopped caring cash a while ago. People would probably leave their wallets in their rooms before going so that might catch people out. However I just took my stuff into the swimming area and left it on the side.

The hand held shower head was broken with water spitting out from the side but the overhead was fine.

Overall we’ve had a great time but a few things stopped it from feeling a 5 star experience. It felt a bit too pricey for what we got, would only recommend to families.

This is a beautiful hotel in great surroundings. We only had a one night weekend stay, and it is expensive, but we were looking for somewhere lovely and child friendly, and close to the Harry Potter studio tour! This fit the bill perfectly. I was concerned having read some recent less than great reviews, but my mind was put at ease as soon as we arrived.

The hotel had already been in touch to find out the age of the children, and cookies and a selection of age appropriate games were waiting in the room. The deluxe room was the perfect size for two adults and two children, plenty of space. The bathroom was beautiful and they had even provided children’s toiletries and dressing gowns. I’ve never had that anywhere else! The view from our room was also beautiful.

The children’s pool is separate but I think it works well that way, it was only a few minutes walk away from the hotel at the other end of the car parking, and staff were also happy to take you there on a golf buggy if requested. The pool wasn’t huge, but had good opening hours and wasn’t ever really busy. We swam on the Saturday night and again on Sunday morning. We were also given a children’s activity schedule and spend some time on the Sunday making jewellery, drawing and T-shirt making! All included in the price of the hotel room. Free tea and coffee was also available for adults in the children’s area.

We couldn’t eat in the restaurant as it was full, but we did eat from a small menu in the resident only lounge area. Lovely food, everyone was happy and it was a nice calm atmosphere. We all really enjoyed breakfast the next morning, so much choice and one of the best breakfast buffets I have come across!

All in all it was great, not perfect (but probably will be once they finish their renovations)! The kids are desperate to go back in the summer, but stay for longer, as they had such a great time.

We stayed here for two nights in Jan this year.

I've stayed in nicer Holiday Inns. £240/night in the Jan sale and sooo not worth it. The rooms are just awful, the toilet was dirty, the cleaners kept making mistakes and forgetting our robes and not giving us the correct towels. Simple things like the sugar being replenished wasn't done on both days (see pic), the TV was poor and flickering.

The rate includes breakfast, which was nice, but bear in mind, as there's a limit on spend, you'll have to pay more when you leave.

A double espresso is £6 (inc. service charge).

The spa is nice, the gym was decent, we paid for two massages which were okay, not amazing.

£480 + £70 (coffees and breakfast extras) + lunch and dinner = £600-700 we really regret.

Get a massage and go for a country walk, don't bother going to The Grove, it truly isn't worth it.

We have been lucky enough to stay at a number of excellent luxury hotels but unfortunately this is not one of them.
We stayed here as a family of 4 in 2 rooms with 2 older teens for 3 nights.
The hotel is really impressive on the face of it and the staff were all really friendly but unfortunately there was nothing luxurious about our stay.
We were put in 2 rooms that were a very long way from the main part of the hotel and that had a number of plumbing issues. The staff tried to resolve the issues but some persisted and although everyone we spoke to was sympathetic, we felt that no-one actually cared whether we were happy or not.
It's in a great location and the grounds and facilities are great but I'm afraid it is not worth the very high cost of an overnight stay.

We chose this supposedly 6 star following our cancellation overseas as a treat because we were having a double celebration of getting married and my new wife's 50th birthday celebration.
I had advised the hotel of our special day but forgot to call the day before.
However, I arrived on the day of my wedding to off load our cases but we were too early so just checked in and said we would leave the cases in the car.
We chose this supposedly 6 star hotel following our cancellation overseas as a treat because we were having a double celebration of getting married and my new wife's 50th birthday celebration.
I had advised the hotel of our special day.
Later that day on our wedding night, we checked in and reception failed to mention that our 'upgraded' room was some 150m away and could have moved our car to be much nearer.
They said the room had been upgraded but there was no evidence at all - No chocolates, flowers or champagne and even the name on the TV wasn't ours.
Nothing had been done to make us feel special in any way.
Even the mini bar was empty.
We invited friends to come over and join us at the bar later and the barman was extremely helpful and moved us to a rather lovely lounge area and couldn't do enough for us.
The following day we had breakfast in the Stables which was rather average at best.
The croissants were not very fresh but the pancakes I ordered were awful as they were cold and hard on the outside. I made mention to the waitress who apologised but didn't offer to make a fresh batch - this in a hotel that is supposed to be of the highest calibre? My wife's cooked breakfast wasn't hot and the grilled mushroom was hard and barely edible.
Eventually, the head waiter came over but by then it was far too late.
We returned to our room to collect our cases and check out , however the reception sent someone to knock on the door and query why we hadn't vacated the room. This was our wedding night and it was just past 11am!!!! Not nice at all.....
We left the hotel soon after.
Reception thanked me for the feedback but no immediate action was taken.
They said management would be notified and that we would be looked after after should we return.
This was a very special double occasion, it wasn't cheap, and we felt exceedingly underwhelmed about the entire experience.

This is a stunning golf course with a 3 star hotel attached an d not a leading hotel of the world to go our of your way for a little break.
the restaurants are good and service here is great. The golf course iOS fantastic and a very good bar on the 19th and a good little shop. However the hotel itself is sub standard if you are expecting 5 star. the beds are uncomfortable, and the rooms and journey to them don't carry much character. This is compounded also but theorise they charge, you expect significantly more. I would suggest staying in London if you want 5 star hotel, or Gleneagles if you want 5 star hotel with amazing golf course. Its a shame as it would be great to have a proper 5 star facility in this location
I complained about the room, it had an unpleasant oder to it as well and the amount of rubbish we walked past to get to the room at 3:30pm was unacceptable
Wasn't even offered a complimentary coffee whilst we waited in the bar for a new room to be organised and luggage to be moved. ( s small touch which would of gone a long way)

Booked a 3 night for mini break September 2020 as I couldn’t go on my overseas holiday. Stayed on my one but I had to same price as for two adults B&B. I only wanted bed for one and no breakfast, so cost a bomb. Stayed in the West Wing thought about main house as the rooms looked good but that would have been even more expensive. I asked for a de luxe room in quite location with garden views. There are three floors in the WW. Ground which are function rooms, first with terraces and second with balconies. Terraces look good, seat area and lovely garden views but I went for second floor so no rooms above me, but it had a small balcony no seating area and a high wall, so garden views were limited. I guess standard rooms in the WW face the car park, so avoid if possible. As it was a de luxe room I had a walk in shower and a roll top bath which looked like a new feature but the room it’s self was dated and seriously needed decorating and modernising. For the price very disappointed. Bed though comfortable, corridor noisy if people closed doors or were talking as they walked along. I think the main house rooms have been re done so probably look better and maybe some of the WW rooms? The lounges have recently be re done and are stunning. So I hope the bedrooms are re done ASAP. As mine was not five star or what I expected from a LHW. Afternoon tea looked lovely but had to be pre booked. All evening meals had to be pre booked in the glasshouse, the stables weren’t serving evening meals when I was there. I was disappointed in the menu at the glasshouse and none of the meals I had were five star, quite disappointed. Though the service was good it seemed rushed and the place was very casual, people wearing tracksuits or shorts again not what I expected from a five star LHW. I also felt uncomfortable re Covid rules in the restaurant as staff were not wearing masks and were not following SD rules. Guests were meant to wear masks in other areas but many weren’t. Temperature checks were done at the main entrance but you can enter the building through other doors, so that seemed pointless. There was plenty of hand gel around. There are lots of activities for all ages but everything has to be pre booked and indoor and outdoor numbers for the pools are currently limited. But though I booked a time slot for the indoor pool no one checked me in or out and others turned up went in and got out at the same time, so again that seems pointless. The pool was lovely to swim in but seemed dark. I had a massage which was great but Covid restrictions meant parts of the spa were closed, so the experience was not as relaxing as it could have been. The grounds are stunning and seemed very well kept and well worthy of five stars and LHW. As is the golf course and facilities. I also enjoyed doing the walking trials through the woods, along the canal an back.

A nice stay, but could have been better and not on the same level as some other 5 star hotels such as The Savoy.
We have been visiting The Grove for years, mainly the restaurants and the grounds, I have also played Golf there and visited the Spa on a few occasions. We have even provided medical care to some of their VIP guests. However, over Xmas I found myself falling out of love with The Grove, this was mainly due to the service we received from the doorman when we visited last year, however, we did have a much better experience a few weeks ago when we booked in for an overnight Spa package.
The Sequoia staff were amazing, and professional as can be, my therapist was also very nice and focussed on all the right areas. Unfortunately the spa is undergoing a refurb so the vitality pool and jacuzzi were out of action. Alex who checked us in to our rooms was very accommodating and charming. Our room was upgraded and was very well appointed with everything we required. It was clean, comfortable, warm and just as you would expect from a 5 star establishment. I loved the lighting and the touchscreen panels which come on slowly as you approach them. The mini-bar was well stocked. The bathroom was also clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable, the linen was crisp and clean, we had all the channels we needed on TV. The recycling centre in the middle of the room, under the TV looked a bit out of place though and some of the sockets did not work. Room service was extremely accommodating. Dinner at The Stables was better than expected, although the menu is limited the portions are large, presented well and taste very nice. Service at The Stables was also up to par. However breakfast was a bit of a let down, it was very busy and at times staff struggled to cope. There was a long queue to get into The Glasshouse for Brekkie, resulting in a wait of a few minutes. Although there is large selection, some items were missing and cooked breakfast items were cold. We also had to ask three times for our coffee. Breakfast was definitely a let down and other guests felt the same.
The grounds of The Grove are immaculate, the outdoor gardens and spaces are really well kept, the outdoor pool is heated and there is a artificial beach (which the children love) and a beach bar (which the adults love). Lot's to do and see including a nature trail, outdoor football and table tennis. The gym is located within Sequoia Spa and is really well stocked, it is clean and has a host of cardio and resistance equipment including a full selection of free weights. Parking is plentiful. Some of the communal areas in the hotel could be cleaner and need a bit of sprucing up. Nonetheless we had a pleasurable stay and it's nice to know The Grove still has some of it's quality and charm. I would recommend staying here if you are celebrating a special occasion or looking for a hotel that has a 4star + rating around Hertfordshire or Greater London.

Dear HKB1978, Thank you for taking the time to provide such valuable feedback. It was wonderful to read that you found our Spa and check in experience to be excellent. We were also very happy to read that you really liked our newly refusbished rooms in the West Wing and the level of service from the Room Service and Stables Restaurant. However I was sorry to read that you were dissapointed with certain aspects of your stay , such us the busy breakfast and the Spa refurbishment. Please be assured that your feedback will be forwarded to the relevant departments for review. It would be lovely to welcome you back again in the near future so that we can deliver the 5 star service that is expected from our 5 star establishment.
