Carjacking Suspects No Longer In Area: Tinley Police

Officials said the incident started as a carjacking in Olympia Fields, with reports of shots being fired on I-80 near 183rd Street.

TINLEY PARK, IL — The public is asked to contact police if they spot anything unusual Thursday morning as police search for three suspects. At around 9 a.m., Tinley Park officials said officers were in the area of 183rd Street/Harlem and Oak Park Avenue searching for three male suspects wearing dark clothing.

Tinley Park Assistant Village Manager Pat Carr told Patch the incident started as a report of a carjacking in Olympia Fields, with shots later fired near I-80 and 183rd Street in Tinley Park. Carr said Tinley Park police were notified after the three suspects got out of the car and fled westbound on I-80. He also said a bullet hole was found on a vehicle in the area.

At around 10 a.m., police told Patch that due to the inclement weather, they do not believe the three suspects are still in the area.

Police said schools in the area of the search were notified and were taking precautions.

Two of the suspects were wearing dark hoodies and the third was in a gray hoodie, authorities said. Police said all three were on foot.

An area resident tweeted that she was at the vaccination clinic at the Tinley Park Convention Center about a mile and a half away from the area police were searching, and that "none of us can leave because we are now in lockdown due to an armed fugitive in the area." At around 9:45 a.m., she tweeted that those at the convention center had gotten the all-clear to leave.

Anyone who spotted anything unusual was asked to contact police at 708-532-9111.
