Amazing Collection of Ancient Greek/Roman Pottery & Sculpture
This was incredible. Probably the best collection of ancient Greek and Roman pottery and sculpture I've seen. The Villa itself is built as a replica of a Roman villa that was buried by Vesuvius when it erupted and buried Pompeii. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful (as long as you go earlier, or during off season :-P), so take a walk through them. The pottery and sculptures are quite impressive. I swear Disney used some of the pottery there as inspiration for the animation in Hercules. I would go back for a second visit-- I feel like I didn't get to take in the second floor as much as I'd like. Wear sunscreen. Its mostly all outside, or has access to the outside.

    Getty house
This is a recreation of an Italian villa on the ocean. While you actually see Getty’s home you see his creation which is used to house his collection of ancient artifacts as well as the very well maintained grounds. It helps to be an art lover(I am not) but still enjoyable. While the museum is free, parking on site is $20.00.

    Another great free museum
It was my last day in LA, so I decided to stop here before heading off to the airport. I had visited the Getty Center the previous month, which I enjoyed a lot, and I enjoyed the Getty Villa just as much. In the rush to check out of my hotel that morning, I forgot to reserve a time slot at the Getty Villa but once I got there, they said it wasn't a problem and directed me to the pay parking. The Getty Villa is not as big as the Getty Center, but just as nice to walk around. All the Greek and Roman artifacts and displays are really a treat to see. Outside garden and peristyle is a wonderful place to wander and enjoy the day. Since it's a free museum (except parking), I couldn't ask for more. Great artifacts, great space, and wonderful way to spend a nice day.

The Getty Villa- An Outstanding Experience
Not only is this museum in a beautiful location inn Malibu, the unique design of the museum itself, , based on a Roman villa discovered in Herculaneum, makes this an outstanding place to visit. Then of course there is the collection, which is mostly Ancient Greek and Roman. There are many incredible and amazing pieces to be seen.

A must see and beautiful place to visit
This is a wonderful place to visit and it has free entry. The grounds are beautifully maintained and it’s well signposted. You have to pay for parking ( $20) to attend which seemed like a fair exchange for free entry to the villa. However, the cafe is very, very overpriced which slightly soured the experience- LA is very exploitative of tourists with pricing which becomes tiresome when you encounter it at every experience.

Would highly recommend if visiting LA and have not yet been to this museum
During my visit to LA, I had not previously planned on visiting the Getty Villa, but after visiting the nearby Getty Museum, I decided to go for a visit. As with the Getty Museum, the museum is free and the parking is also free if you are a military veteran. The villa setting was pretty cool which highlighted the different Greek-Roman antiquities.

Step back in time and enjoy incredible art and history
This is a more than a museum. This is a Roman villa you can visit over and over and over and really feel like you have stepped back in time. Only $20 to park and free admission. Man, that Getty guy sure was a wealthy collector. Thankfully, he left it to us mere mortals to enjoy and explore, so thank you, Mr. Getty. The art and history are extensive and overwhelming and the docents and guards were outstanding. Strolling through time is easy in this villa and the exhibitions, theaters, and outdoor gardens and terraces are stunning. I want to live here. Very highly recommend. Hint: we were here on Monday afternoon after Thanksgiving and is was not crowded and no school kids.

    Beautiful Setting for Classical Artifacts
We had a chance to visit the Getty Villa during our recent trip to LA. We had visited the Getty museum several years previously. As fans of classical art, we were pleased and surprised to find such a large and important collection of ancient art pieces on display. There are multiple rooms of Greek and Roman artifacts. Many Greek vases and also many statues. Also present is the Getty Kour and the Landsdowne Heracles. Very impressive. Also a life-size Greek theatre and beautiful gardens to explore. A must see if you like classical art or just love beautiful places.

    Experience old Rome in luxury
Many people will want to go to the main Getty Center, but this museum is an experience. Yes, they have Greek and Roman art, but also lots of other interesting exhibits from the old world. The setting is incredible, so different than the usual institutional museum feel. The lunch was pricey but fantastic.

Beautiful place to visit, no entrance fee, parking for a fee
Incredible place! Beautiful and a lot to see. Worth of visit. There is no entrance fee, but there is a charge for parking. Tip: you can park on the same day for the same fee when visiting both the Getty Center and the Getty Villa.

The small selection of food at the cafe is very overpriced. When I could not understand what the staff member behind the counter was saying (probably because of her mask which was appropriate for her to wear), she got VERY snooty and threw down the receipt like she was angry with me. I was not at all rude when I asked her what she said; I cannot possibly be the first person who occasionally has trouble hearing someone speaking through a mask. Maybe she should not interact with customers if she gets so upset so easily.

Tour tickets are NOT given out on a first-come, first-served basis. The system is a joke, and a poor one at that.

The fellow handing out the tickets for the 11 am collection tour said only 2 people from any group could be on the tour. He announced this AFTER we stood behind a group of 5 people for 5 minutes as he did and said NOTHING at all to anyone. Finally our friend asked him if we could sign up for the tour. He said he had to help the other group in front of us first. This was fine, but he had been ignoring them completely until she asked the question. Then he told them that only 2 of their group could take the tour at any given time and that he could NOT put the remaining people on a later tour. Of course this upset the other group and there was a long discussion before 2 of the people got their wrist bands for the tour. Then we were told the same thing so 2 of the 4 of us took the wristbands.

When we saw our friends walking in with the guide to start the tour, there were 30 people all together. Naturally we glommed-on to the tour and took it with our friends. The tour guide was terrific. The system for registering for the tour is less so. In fact, it is a complete joke.

Great family experience with lots to see and wonderful tours by knowledgeable docents. The buildings are truly amazing and the exhibits are rare and interesting. We also enjoyed a great lunch at the restaurant eating at outdoor tables. The food was prepared by chefs with a love of their job and the cost was very reasonable. Highly recommended.

Wow! What an amazing museum. The villa is just stunning! The views are amazing. The artifacts are so interesting and we didn’t even get to see them all. It’s amazing that the entry is free of charge and you only have to pay the $20 parking charge. You do need pre-arranged entry tickets to get in. The cafe had a decent selection of food- it was a little pricey, but what you would expect considering it’s free to get in. The security lady when you first arrive, Teresa, was very friendly. I am looking forward to returning someday to enjoy the museum more.

I visited the Getty Villa Museum with a friend, and I loved every minute. The artifacts in the museum are amazing, but what distinguishes this museum from others is the amazing garden, fountains and views. I didn't want to leave.

It's free admission with parking on-site for about $15 (well worth the cost). Get there with plenty of time to spend time to sit and enjoy the gardens and soak in the beautiful scenery. I highly recommend, and I definitely plan to go again and take family and friends!

What a treasure! The Getty Villa is back better. Not only have some of the galleries been updated, their current (Aug. 2021) special exhibit on Mesopotamia is stunning and informative, especially about the different types of early writing. Although the main garden was closed when we visited, the tiled water fountain in an outdoor courtyard still is a restful oasis and the Mediterranean landscape on the walk to the parking garages continues to delight. Reservations are required for admission; the parking voucher can be validated for same day parking at the Getty Center (about 15-20 minutes away) at one price for both.

We enjoyed this equally if not more than the Getty Center. Our visit was enhanced through a free volunteer-led Architecture Tour. Since Getty had this Museum built to recreate Greek and Roman architecture and building techniques, the tour provided the foundation for fully appreciating the details and origins of the Villa. We appreciated that it's free, although there is a fee for parking. If you visit the Getty Center, too, you can get a coupon to park at the Villa on the same day. You also need to reserve on-line a free ticket for entry at a specified time.

You have to have a reservation to go here. There is no charge for the museum but the parking is $20. Plan to spend about 2 hours here. The gardens are really nice and the museum has multiple small rooms with Greek, Roman, and other arts. It was very interesting.

Amazing place!
Parking is $20 per vehicle but then admission is free.
Built by J P Getty this is a replica of an Italian Villa. The museum houses his collection of art, artifacts and marble statues from Italy and Greece. There are large beautiful gardens and pools. This is definitely worth visiting.

There is one room that is an interactive area for children.

Also on the grounds are a cafe and a museum store.

Free charge of admission you can book in advance in their webpage.

Amazing museum and you may feel you are in Europe. You need to reserve time to enjoy and appreciate this beautiful museum. If you know some background of Getty then you will even have some ideas about this museum. Strolling in the museum is joyful and relax, and you do feel what happiness it is.

Highly recommend this museum for your stay in LA and find the peaceful oasis in LA.

The Getty Villa is the museum just off the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH that includes a replica of a Roman villa (not the same as the Getty Center). The grounds are beautiful, as are the villa gardens, and those by themselves are worth the price of admission (which is $0). But if you're into antiquity, and learning about and seeing the ancient works of Rome, Greece, Assyria, and others, there's lots of that.

To visit, you must make a reservation online. While entrance is free, parking is not. Still, it's well-worth paying the $20 to park there (which I also recommend you do online), and anyway, who doesn't want to drive the PCH?

The place is well-run, with tours that focus on different aspects of the museum (architecture, special exhibits, etc.). It's a must-see if you're spending any time sightseeing in the L.A. area.
