      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

A cult classic as gut-bustingly hilarious as it is blithely ridiculous, Monty Python and the Holy Grail has lost none of its exceedingly silly charm.

Mary S It's an absolute classic! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/07/23 Full Review Jordan S A thrilling docudrama of the life of King Arthur Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/04/23 Full Review Jadan S Timeless comedies don't get any better than this. You owe it to yourselves to watch this historic hilarious movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/04/23 Full Review Dinos K Holy hand grenade is the most powerful weapon in the universe. But don't forget!! You must count to 3 and then throw it. Not 4, not 5. Right up to 3 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/02/24 Full Review Augustine J I asked my self while writing this review, "Am I really giving this movie a ten out of ten, really?" Yes, I am. I know this is such an unpopular opinion(this is sarcasm), but Monty Python and the Holy Grail not only works as the quintessential comedy, but as one of the greatest movies of all time. This movie is iconic from front to back. There is not one scene in this movie that I dislike, there is not one moment of wasted film. This movie set the course for all comedies in the modern age. Nothing before it even comes close and not many after it are on it's level. There are too many funny scenes and moments to list, so I'll only bring up my favorites. The fight with the black knight is downright comedy gold. The holy hand grenade is classic. The knights who say Ni! The French Taunter. My guy, it goes on forever. This movie does not let up. It doesn't let you breathe. It doesn't stop. It's one hilarious and iconic moment after another. It's a little over 90 minutes of some of the funniest bits ever put to screen. You have already seen this movie. It is simply a given. If you have not, which is impossible if you are over the age of ten, then stop every thing and watch this movie. Cancel meetings, postpone funerals, miss births of children and skip church, you have to watch this movie. This is required viewing for life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Euan P Funny, creative, and so brilliantly stupid that it's made itself a must watch. Donald Clarke Irish Times The first non-sketch Python film is one of the great Arthurian romps. Rated: 9/10 Sep 13, 2018 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian The material is superb, Neil Innes' music is tremendous and Gilliam's animations are timelessly brilliant. Rated: 5/5 Oct 15, 2015 Full Review Tom Huddleston Time Out So unnecessarily gorgeous, there are moments where it feels like Tarkovsky with drag and farting. Rated: 5/5 Oct 13, 2015 Full Review Sarah Cartland Caution Spoilers Doing for bunnies what Benchley and Spielberg did for Great Whites, Holy Grail is still a hoot - a meandering delight that also firmly skewers the genial pointlessness of quests and kingship, medieval myth-making, and much more. Rated: 5/5 Apr 5, 2024 Full Review Steve Warren The Barb (Atlanta) What is funny in doses of 10 seconds to 10 minutes, grows tediously extended over an hour-and-a-half May 9, 2023 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand It is probably the cheapest Arthurian adventure ever made (heck, they couldn’t even afford horses!), and easily the funniest. In fact, this absurdity is considered by many (including myself) to be one of the funniest movies ever made. Feb 4, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews
