It’s a little difficult to sit through a whole Kevin Spacey flick these days, but it can’t be denied that the man can act. I enjoy the looks he gives throughout this with some fun style to his outfits. It’s overall a pretty typical light comedy—predictable and easygoing. A few moments are worth recommending: his discovery of the joys of Rock Band after nearly a decade in prison, his attempt to hang a painting that smashes into the fish tank as soon as he looks at his successful job with satisfaction, and the general premise of having invented something that inadvertently cuts people’s fingers off!
The family drama is alright too, punctuated by some hearty laughs from Craig Robinson. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this as there are many better films of this genre, but if you just want an easy-to-digest comedy, this film is here when you need it.
