The Equalizer Is Back! Here's Everything You Need to Know About Season 2, Including the New Guest Star for 2022

Mary Kouw/CBS

Inspired by the '80s series of the same name starring Edward Woodward, the CBS reboot (or reimagining, as the network calls it) of The Equalizer is a gender-switched, modern-day take on vigilante justice.

In 2021, Queen Latifah debuted as Robyn McCall, a former CIA operative who uses her extensive skills to help desperate people in desperate situations who have nowhere else to turn. McCall presents to most people as an average single mom who is working for an international charity and quietly raising her teenage daughter, but to a trusted few she is an anonymous guardian angel and defender of the downtrodden.

The mid-season premiere in January 2021 was a rating boon for CBS so it was no surprise that the network quickly renewed the series for a full second season. Here's what we know so far about season 2 of The Equalizer.

When will The Equalizer season 2 premiere?

The Equalizer season 2 premiered Sunday, Oct. 10 on CBS followed by the season premieres of NCIS: Los Angeles and Seal Team.

How many episodes will there be in The Equalizer season 2?

CBS hasn't revealed the number of episodes for season 2 of The Equalizer, but since this is full season (instead of a mid-season pickup), fingers crossed there will be more than 10.

When did season 2 of The Equalizer begin filming?

The Equalizer season 2 began filming in mid-August.

Where is The Equalizer filmed?

Queen Latifah is a native of New Jersey and has made it a point throughout her career to support her home state. And she's staying true to that mission with The Equalizer which is filmed in New York City, Paterson, Newark and Jersey City, N.J. and the surrounding areas.

Who's in the cast of The Equalizer in season 2?

Queen Latifah

Obviously, Queen Latifah will be returning as the titular character of the series. She posted the following note of thanks to fans on Instagram.

Lorraine Toussaint (Aunt Vi)

Robyn's Aunt Vi is Robyn's rock and offers stability in the home life she has built for her daughter. Vi heads the household when Robyn is out on a mission.

Laya DeLeon Hayes (Delilah)

In the season finale, Delilah has discovered her mother's secret identity and for her, it's a lot of information to process. Look for Delilah to adjust to the new dynamic in her relationship with her mother.

Tory Kittles (Marcus Dante)

Look for Detective Marcus Dante to return for another season also. Will he ultimately help or hinder Robyn's efforts as The Equalizer?

Chris Noth (William Bishop)

Chris Noth was fired his character written out of the series after sexual abuse allegations surfaced in late 2021. Bishop was part of Robyn's tight circle of support and her former CIA handler. He took a case that allowed him to get out of the spy game and and his character was written out.

Adam Goldberg (Harry)

Harry is one-half of the husband/wife hacker/sniper (and bar owners)  who help Robyn with her missions.

Liz Lapira (Mel)

Mel is a former colleague of Robyn's. She was a sniper and her sharpshooting skills helps Robyn get out of various jams. She's a current bar owner when she's not out helping Robyn.

Who are the guest stars on The Equalizer season 2?

Jada Pinkett Smith

Perhaps to fill in the gap left by the unplanned departure of Chris Noth, Queen Latifah's Girls Trip co-star Jada Pinkett Smith will be guest starring on upcoming episodes of The Equalizer, beginning with the series' 2022 return on Feb. 27.

Smith will guest-star as Jessie “The Worm” Cook, a brilliant and prolific thief with a photographic memory, and who is also described as amoral, devious and unpredictable.

What happened in The Equalizer season 1?

In the first season of The Equalizer we are introduced to Robyn McCall, a former CIA agent. To her friends and family she appears as a typical single mother with a teenage daughter working at a non-profit organization. In reality, she is a clandestine vigilante operative for those who have no other avenue to seek justice. While she tries to keep her Equalizer missions secret from her family, both her Aunt Vi and daughter Delilah discover who she really is and what she really does.

What are the storylines for season 2 of The Equalizer?

No official statements from production as to what stories the second season will offer, but look for Robyn to continue on with her work as The Equalizer helping the downtrodden. Fans can also expect the relationship between Dante and Robyn to evolve from once-upon-a-time enemies to allies and perhaps even friends.

One of the big storylines that we're likely to see is the mother-daughter relationship between Robyn and her daughter, Delilah. At the end of last season, Delilah discovered her mom's cache of weapons, wigs, disguises and identities as she learned her mom d0es not work for a non-profit organization as she believed she did all her life. As a teenager, Delilah is already in that defiant stage of growing up. We suspect there will be some butting of heads in the upcoming season between these two.
