It’s been a long wait for Lin-Manuel Miranda fans, but the lights are finally about to go up on Washington Heights in the In The Heights movie, which is now available on HBO Max and in theaters.
From director Jon M. Chu, this adaptation of Miranda’s Tony-winning musical of the same name promises to be the event of the summer. Anthony Ramos—best known for originating the roles John Laurens and Phillip Hamilton in Broadway’s Hamilton—stars as Usnavi, a bodega shop owner who lives in the Upper Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights, but dreams of someday returning to the Dominican Republic, where his late parents are from. But as we meet the many people in Usnavi’s life who make up his neighborhood, we start to suspect the real dream is on the streets of New York City.
Starring Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Olga Merediz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Gregory Diaz IV, and Jimmy Smits, In the Heights is already a critical sensation and is sure to be the talk of the summer.
