Great food! Service is kinda hit or miss and they are not the most friendly and outgoing people that I have been around. The decor is typical Mexican restaurant the food is your typical Mexican restaurant food nothing I have had has really stood out as amazing but nothing I have ever had taste bad. Usually a little crowed when I have been. Still it's a nice place to go with friends and enjoy a meal.

My wife and daughter and I recently drove to Charlestown to see Christmas in Charlestown. When decided where to have dinner Mexican is usually the winner, so we ended up at San Pedro Authentic Mexican.

This place is tucked away off the road in a nearly-abandoned strip mall and, unless you knew it was there or were headed there, you'd wouldn't just stumble on it.

When you walk in the first thing you notice are the colorful tables and chairs. You see them at Mexican restaurants everywhere. (To be honest, at one point I wanted a set for a house we lived in, but they are WAY pricey). They lend themselves well to the Mexican aesthetic, and they just look cool.

We were seated immediately and our server took our drink orders (it was just iced tea) and we perused the menu while she was getting those. The menu is enormous, but to a point that's not too impressive. With Mexican food it's a matter of rearranging and adding/subtracting ingredients in order to get *hey!* a new food item! When you think about it a certain way, it's not entirely unlike magic.

The chips were served warm (but needed salt) and the salsa brought to the table was pretty mild. Watch the chip consumption, though. If you eat too many you'll A) spoil your dinner and 2) have to pay after the second refill.

I ordered the Pork Chili Verde (my current favorite in any Mexican eater), my daughter some enchiladas, and my wife a chicken quesadilla. Our food was delivered in less than 10 minutes and we were off to the races.

The food was made correctly and looked awesome. The Chile Verde was promising, but came in as "good" instead of something like "AMAZING" or "BEST EVER" or AMAZEBALLZ". Not really complaining about it, but it tasted somewhat...minimal. As if a jar of tomatillo sauce was opened and poured over pork that had been microwaved. What it DID have going for it was quantity. OMG, I got about half way through and I was done. Likewise my wife and daughter's food. In a rare occurrence, three boxes went home that night.

Our server was attentive, if not ever-present. We had to wait for drink refills and for the check, but we weren't wanting for anything. The staff utilizes great teamwork by checking on other tables when walking through the dining room. What did lack was table maintenance. Several tables sat unattended after the party left for quite a while before getting cleaned. The restaurant was largely clean with the exception of these tables.

In the end, we drove about 1/2 hour for the lights and had to eat. San Pedro was there to answer the call. It wasn't a bad experience at all and I have no real complaints. It could have just been....better.

Three of us had lunch. Wife had the tamale lunch plate. Grandson the lunch Chimichanga. I had shredded chicken with queso sauce and rice and beans.
All three lunches were good and nice portions. Service was excellent.
There are several Mexican restaurants in Southern Indiana. Most are run of the mill and serve pretty much the same food.
San Pedro has a very large menu offering more choices than most of their peers.
I've tried many of the Mexican restaurants in the area, I would rank San Pedro a little ahead most of their casual Mexican competitors.

      First to Review

First I'd give them a 4 for the great decor and it makes me wonder who the artist is that has painted everything. And I mean everything, tabletops, chairs, endocarps, head rests, trim, benches everything is bright, fun and colorful.

It's great to see new places being built in Georgetown and if you happen to be out here this would not be a bad stop for a big family or bus full of kids, or even a group of peers out for lunch. However, there are better choices in town including more authentic Mexican food closer to the highway.

If you go looking for this place it is far back off the main road in an old building that reminds me of a Kmart. There is no sign yet but look for the Thrift store behind the closed bank and drive to the right end of the building. Once the sing goes up it should be easier to find.

I hope to be able to return and give it a four stars but they need to get a few things together. Since they are really new and still opening I'm sure some of this will get fixed quickly.

      Cons.
No soda available yet, machine was either not there yet or not installed. To me if you can't serve anything other than water you should not be open, even for a soft opening.

Put away your construction tools. Coming in the front door there were ladders and construction supplies which would be fine if someone was working there but they were not. It was just kind of a turn off to walk in the door and see that instead of the great decor and art. Just put it away, or don't open.

Refried beans were flavorless and ordinary. Or about the same as every other Mexican restaurant of this type. It does not take much to give the beans a little flavor, it will go far to do the little things to make your food special instead of ordinary.

Salsa seemed to be the same generic recipe across the country of family owned longer than sensible mound Mexican restaurants. It was peppered with table paper instead of flavored well with real papers. Advice, visit your competitors down the street who serve real southwest Mexican with hand made salsa instead of this. Again it's so easy to make good salsa, and I bet your real family recipe is far better. The tomatoes in it did not taste canned and I would rate it at a barely medium heat, not mild but not hot either.

Service was great! I had at least three people taking care of me and they were all great. A little struggle with english but that is a good thing and adds an air of authenticity. The food was brought out very quickly and everything was well prepared with correct temperatures.

Taste, Although I don't consider this real Mexican for that I go down the street. But this is typical family style Mexican with all the stuff on the menu you'd expect from a El Napal or other lower priced but consistent Mexican chains. However with far better decorations.

I ordered the seafood Chimichanga and it was prepared perfectly! Ship, scallops, and vegetables properly grilled and tender and flavorful. As about the refried beans were of the kind most people would leave on their plates. The condiments on the side were fresh and the salad portion was fresh and had good flavor, the guacamole was cool and smooth.

I alos ordered a tamale which was prepared again like many chain style restaurants with port inside and seasoned ground beef and a rich dark enchilada sauce. People who have never had real Mexican food or roadside Mexican food found all over the South West will find this typical, low cost and tasty.

All in all I think they will be successful. Expect to see lots of big groups, high school football teams and families having a great time with adequate food.

I would say this to so many Mexican restaurants to thin out the menu, you make it harder to order when there are 5 pages of 11 point type choices. Offer more authentic choices and don't be afraid to bring out the peppers and marinaded vegetables as condiments that more authentic Mexican restaurants often have available.

Parting comments, a liquor license is coming and hopefully soda machines. I look forward to coming back to give them a higher rating when they have worked out the bugs in their menu and facilities.
