The Brothers McMullen Reviews

Voted Best Picture at the Sundance Film Festival, this crowd-pleasing romantic comedy was described by one jury member as "everybody's second choice." It's easy to see why: THE BROTHERS MCMULLEN is solid, old-fashioned narrative moviemaking with just enough no-budget cachet to disguise its essential blandness. In an Irish-Catholic neighborhood of Long Island, the titular brothers -- married, relatively stable Jack (Jack Mulcahy) and his confused younger sibs, Patrick (Mike McGlone) and Barry (Edward Burns, who also wrote and directed) -- struggle with romance while assimilating the importance of family ties and other sitcom-style wisdom. Not a good-looking film by any standard, it'll probably play better on television.
