About
The Broad is a new contemporary art museum founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. The museum is designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro and offers free general admission. The museum is home to the 2,000 works of art in the Broad collection, which is among the most prominent holdings of postwar and contemporary art worldwide. With its innovative "veil-and-vault" concept, the 120,000-square-foot, $140-million building features two floors of gallery space to showcase The Broad's comprehensive collection and is the headquarters of The Broad Art Foundation's worldwide lending library. -- General admission to The Broad is free. Advance online reservations are available at the museum website and are highly encouraged in this busy period after the museum's opening. For visitors who want to ensure a specific date and time for their visit, and avoid wait times during busy periods, The Broad provides advance reservation of timed tickets online at no charge. Tickets have entry times beginning every half hour. Please note that advance online tickets often book up two to three months in advance. Advance tickets are not required. An onsite ticketing line is available at the museum every day except Mondays, when the museum is closed. Admission for the onsite ticketing line is first come, first served, based on availability. The wait time in the onsite ticketing line is 30 to 45 minutes on an average weekday, and 60 to 90 minutes on an average weekend. On holiday weekends, wait time in the onsite ticketing line can be up to two or three hours. The onsite ticketing line closes 90 minutes before the museum closes.

Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.

    Excellent modern art gallery
Top quality modern art museum that is a nice size, not too big so you can easily see everything in an hour or two. The rooms are well organised and house a fantastic variety of unique and thought provoking modern art, with very helpful descriptions that add background and context to each piece. Reserve ahead on their website in advance to get access to the mirrored lights ‘infinity room’ which is definitely worth it

    OMG, just fabulous
At the time of writing the Keith Haring exhibition is on and if you are a fan you have to see this. The exhibition was extensive and to see these pieces first hand is just amazing. The Broad is free but you do have to pay for this special exhibition and it is worth it. The rest of the gallery is just amazing with rooms full of artwork by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and Jeff Koons just to name a few. There is a piece by Yayoi Kusama’s - Infinity Mirror which you need advanced free tickets for. We luckily were able to see it without one, but our Aussie accent may have helped us. Do walk down the stairs and look through the window of stored artwork not on display. If you like modern art, you need to come to The Broad I am so happy we decided to go.

wonderful way to spend an afternoon
My adult son and I had a wonderful visit here! The infinity room is so much fun (although I wish you got more than 60 seconds inside). There is also a smaller infinity experience upstairs that we liked too. So cool to see the giant Koons dog and the smaller rabbit. We were surprised at how much we liked the gigantic table and chairs. Loved seeing famous artists such as Jasper Johns, Warhol, Haring, and others. And the building itself is interesting. How great the museum is free - although the parking was very expensive - $27 for 5.5 hours. ouch.

Impressive collection including works by Jean-Michel Basquait, Mark Bradford, Jeff Koons
We had less than a five minute wait with the advance tickets. Once inside, the wait for the “Infinity Room” was longer (perhaps 20 minutes). You get one minute by yourself in the room and be careful not to go beyond the small space provided or you could trip. One small room was dedicated to Jean-Michel Basquait which was nice. There were other important contemporary artists like (the overrated) Andy Warhol, Cy Twonbly and Takashi Murakami. Of course, they also had a special exhibit for Keith Haring. The layout is well designed with plenty of space to avoid overcrowding. The museum also manages the number of visitors very well allowing for a pleasant experience. What enriched our trip and elevated our understanding of the artists, particularly Basquait, was one of the museum's experts, Anja, who was available to answer questions and graciously shared her knowledge of the artists’ background, influences and technique. She really made our visit special as if we had a personal tour of the museum.

Great for singles, family, all. A favorite thing to do in LA
LA native here. This is one of the best museums in LA. The collection is incredible, inclusive, and enjoyable for all ages. From modern art masters to contemporary ‘what the…’ artists, this museum brings it all together in a palatable and enjoyable way for everyone. When you go up the escalator, look directly up. When you’re in the galleries, look directly out to the street. The architecture itself is art and meant to transport you. I go here bi-monthly. There’s a gorgeous parklet outside for sitting and enjoying the architecture. Plus food trucks are usually there for snacks.

Go see the Keith Haring exhibit
Loved the Keith Haring exhibit. The permanent collection has such huge pieces on display that the floors are filled up quickly. As with a lot of contemporary art, it's pretty simplistic so doesn't invite long introspection in front of the item. You can actually breeze through the museum rather quickly.

    Loved this museum
I love this type of museum—lots of interesting pieces to see without having to spend hours and hours wandering around an enormous museum. The Broad is essentially one floor. We spent about 1-1/2 hours. There is a nice gift shop on the ground floor. There is a parking garage underneath and the museum validates your parking which results in a small discount, but our fee for 3.5 hours, after validation was $27. Ouch! Don’t go above the three hour/$17 limit or take public transportation to the museum.

    Delightful collection!
We had a wonderful weekday visit to the Broad. I was delighted to see some of my favorite artists’ work, like George Condo and Yayoi Kusama. There is ample parking and plenty of space inside to walk around. There could be more artists represented in the gift shop, but that wasn’t a huge deal. The staff was courteous. Even though we had lunch afterward someplace else, it was nice that there were food trucks right outside.

Excellent Free Museum of Modern Art
The Broad, in downtown Los Angeles is an excellent museum of modern art, with a substantial permanent collection, including some important pieces, as rotating exhibits. It includes some important works by, among others, Lichtenstein and Elanatsui. The museum itself is well laid out and has interesting architecture, making it well worth a visit. Moreover, it is fee, unusual for museums in the US, where museums are almost never free and often quite expensive. One must book entry online but this is very simple and, unless it is very busy, can be done right before entering.

    Beautiful architecture
This museum has very nice architecture and interesting pieces. A place to visit if you love art and/or when you've seen most of the tourist attractions in LA. Also, if you visit The Broad, don't miss MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) that is across the street. A good option for rainy days!

We were in LA for a few days and signed up for a 12:30pm entrance to the Broad. As we had recently seen Love is Calling in at the ICA in Boston, we wanted to see Kusama's Infinity Room at the Broad. They have a really terrible process - first you have to get a ticket for an entry time to the museum, then go to an ipad area to sign up for the infinity room. We had one person in a wheelchair who was pushed aside in line by the customer service person. Once we finally entered, it was at least a 2 hour wait for the Infinity Room with a long line at the ipad so we spent most of our time in line. The person in charge of the ipad was very unfriendly.
In addition, the "accessible" bathroom was not really wheelchair friendly and required 2 people to help hold the door to the stall. The Broad should take a lesson from the ICA in Boston - give an entry time to the exhibit online. At the ICA, it was very smooth with little wasted time in line.

I visited the Broad on New Year's Day. I was advised before leaving for my trip to CA to get tickets on-line. Since Wednesdays are free, I still got an advance reservation time and this saved me from waiting in a very long line for those without advance reservations. Once inside, there are numerous galleries devoted to the "giants" of American Modern Art, including Warhol, Koons, Jasper Johns & Basquiat. A special work of Yayoi Kusama is on display and you need to sign up ahead of time to get a viewing slot as only a few can be admitted at any given time.Worth the extra hassle!

Don’t go to the BROAD even on a Tuesday and expect to see the Infiniti room - once you enter the museum, then you can put your name in - we went on a tuesday at 1:30 (it opens at 11 or 11:30 and all slots were gone - could not see it. Terribly disappointing. Seems like a way to get guests to spend the whole day waiting and hoping there will be a cancelation. Nothing on the website that made me expect anything like that. Apparently people line up 30 min before the museum opens in order to be the first in to secure a spot. BEWARE!!!!!!!

I visited The Broad on my last vacation to Los Angeles, and it did not disappoint.

It is a great contemporary art museum that is free to the public. So I highly recommend that you make an online reservation to visit as this will cut your time in the queue to get in.

When I visited in February 2020, I was able to see artwork from Mark Bradford, Christopher Wool, Andy Warhol, and more. I was also able to see a series of films, one being from Shirin Neshat. The film was interesting and it really caught my attention.

Another great addition to the museum is the Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrored Rooms. It was really amazing, but be ready to wait to get in. You have to checkin to get in the room and you are sent a text of when it's your turn. I do reccomend you occasionally check with staff at the entrance of the room to check on your wait time. Also, due to the long line of people the time you get to spend in the room is limited to a few seconds so have the camera ready!

A parking garage is available for visitors, and you can get a validated ticket from museum staff for a discount on parking. I believe I paid $17 for three hours.

Overall it was a great visit, and I would definitely go again for new exhibits.

I'm not into contemporary art myself, but Broad is next level artistic, warm, true cultural center. I liked the Pop art of the 1960s and the collections and works by Roy Lichtenstein, Ed Ruscha, and Andy Warhol, but truly enjoyed the 1980s especially Keith Haring works. The highlight of the visit to me was the infinity mirrored room. Although the time inside was limited at 45 seconds, you got the feeling of being alone with millions of stars, quite exquisite. I would recommend it to every true art lover. Make your visit flawless by making sure you have a time reservation before you get there, both for the main entrance but also for the infinity mirrored room

Interesting collection of modern art. You can spend a pleasant hour or so in here. Best of all is the free general admission. However to avoid standing in a long line, order your tickets in advance on their website and you can select a specific time to enter. Make sure you get your parking ticket validated before returning to the adjoining garage.

Pre-booking your tickets will save you a lot of pain on entry, and we were glad we did. The staff were friendly and professional and there are some exhibits of the very highest caliber when it comes to modern art from masters like Warhol and Koons. Downtown LA is starting to get its vibe and The Broad is a. If part of this.

This beautiful Museum in the Heart of Los Angeles, exceeded our expectations. The exhibits were beautifully displayed with knowledgeable docents to guide you through the museum and give you background and context. Parking was easy and you could spend many hours here touring.

"The Broad" is an apt name for this museum as it presents a wide array of modern art pieces. Spanning many decades and various disciplines, there's something for everyone - of almost any age - to be seen here. Plan ahead for getting tickets (even if they're free) to see specific installations. You'll need at least two hours to do the visit justice but I'd suggest three or four to really enjoy it.
