The Blue Danube offers cuisine from the countries through which the Danube river passes. The menu has many choices of popular dishes found in eastern europe. Our meals had the home made appearance and taste. The Blue Danube is family owned and we felt we...were dining in a eastern european home. The portions are generous and filling, nobody leaves hungry. We enjoyed the drink options from the bar, interesting mixed drinks and great beer selection. Be prepared to spend time, this place is perfect for enjoying company in a relaxed environment.More

Obviously we have not been able to eat out during covid but this was one of the first places we wanted to go once we were fully vaccinated. Place wasn’t crowded but it was a holiday weekend. My husband got the Tour of Europe and...lived it. I got 3 hot apps. Pieroghi, stuffed cabbage, and potato pancakes. Everything was delicious. Can’t wait to go backMore

Dined here the other night with a couple of family members. Had the liver with bacon and onions, which you can't find everywhere. It was surprisingly good. The potatoes were cooked well; since they were listed as roasted, they could have been crispier. Pierogies were...homemade-tasting, and spinach was okay. Service was pleasant and friendly. I'd return to try the schnitzel and the spätzle.More

If you want traditional Polish, Hungarian and Eastern European food, there is probably no better place in miles than Blue Danube. Wonderful range of options all prepared traditionally. Kind attentive and quick service. For those who are not as eager to dig in to schnitzels,...perogies, and other conventional foods, they also serve a variety of Italian dishes. The mushroom soup is not to be missed. I enjoyed the chicken livers, but might order differently next time. And the sauerbraten I ate for two meals. Most dishes come with a choice of soup or salad. There are a variety of wines if that fits your fancy. I've noted some reviews that say the neighborhood is sketchy. I feel differently, it's population dense, it's street parking, it's an immigrant community, but found it to plenty safe. As an African American person who doesn't always feel welcome in Eastern European spaces, I'd come here anytime.More

We all ordered traditional German food from the menu. It was all reportedly good. The portions were a good size and homemade. The Apple strudel was excellent. Is it the best German food I’ve ever had? No. Will I be returning? Yes. Service was a...bit slow but overall we enjoyed the experience.More

Our dinner at Blue Danube quickly dispelled the notion of there being a hidden gem in Trenton, NJ. Parking is on the street, except for 3 spots on the side of the building. The neighborhood is not clean or well maintained, but seems safe enough....Entering, there is a small bar with 6 stools and a television. The dining area is to the left, decorated with eastern European paintings and knickknacks. The chairs at our table were a bit wobbly, and the menus could have been cleaner and newer. There is probably more on the menu than there should be. We ordered crabmeat pierogies with marinara sauce as an appetizer, and entrees of beef goulash and sauerbraten, but the best part of our meal was the toasted bread and butter. The goulash was probably the worst we've ever had at a restaurant. The sauerbraten was a first for me, but reminded me of my grandmother's pot roast, smothered in a cheap, odd tasting sauce. Even the spaetzle was probably the worst we've tasted. If you're looking for a wurst and schnitzel filled meal done well, I would recommend Otto's or the Newportville Inn (though both of them have their own warts and flaws).More

The outside façade may not seem ‘much; but, when you step inside, TO ME, anyway (even if I might not be technically correct) it surely feels TO ME, that I AM entering ‘old-world’ Polish-Hungarian-German type Eastern-European Charm Ambiance. IF you like “Polish-German-Hungarian-Authentic East European” type eating fare, then, like me, you will not be disappointed in this cuddly, snug, quaint, charming neighborhood eatery. Interesting ‘old-world’ type offers. Our Group just couldn’t choose from this amazing assortment of menu cuisine. All of us simply just started to pick different choices to share, including from THIN MEDALLIONS OF VEAL BREADED & PAN FRIED HUNGARIAN BEEF GOULASH, STUFFED CABBAGE, WIENER SCHNITZEL, MITITEI (ROMANIAN SAUSAGES) & NOODLES WITH FRIED CABBAGE KIELBASA & SAUERKRAUT, POTATO AND CHEESE PIROGUES, SAUTÉED WITH ONION, STUFFED CABBAGE or CABBAGE ROLLS WITH PORK, BEEF & RICE, SLOW COOKED WITH TOMATOES, SAURKRAUT & SHREDDED CABBAGE, STUFFED CABBAGE & PIEROGIES Or CABBAGE ROLLS STUFFED WITH PORK, BEEF & RICE ACCOMPANIED BY POTATO & CHEESE FILLED PIEROGIES SAUERBRATEN, JAEGER SCHNITZEL or WIENER SCHNITZEL TOPPED WITH MUSHROOM GRAVY, MARINATED BEEF IN TRADITIONAL GRAVY, SERVED WITH NOODLES, PORK SCHNITZEL BREADED PORK CUTLET, SERVED WITH NOODLES & BROWN GRAVY, TOUROS CSUSZA, NOODLES TOPPED WITH FRIED CABBAGE, ONION, BACON, SAUSAGE & FETA CHEESE MITITEI, HOMEMADE SAUSAGE OF GROUND BEEF & VEAL, MARINATED WITH GARLIC & SPICES, CHICKEN PAPRIKAS, DUMPLINGS, CHICKEN MEHEDINTI, DANUBE FAVORITE BONELESS CHICKEN SAUTEED WITH CABBAGE, SAUERKRAUT, SOUR CREAM & DILL. We just all simply stuffed ourselves to our jovial hearts content. WOW! What an absolutely different ambiance and eating experience. After our Valentines Day meal at the Blue Danube and having read the previous glowing reviews of the restaurant, my wife and I left thinking, "Are there two Blue Danubes in Trenton???" Because the one we just visited was just a plain horrible dining experience....Where to begin? Well I suppose it would be when we entered the place. There were three ladies sitting at the bar having a lively conversation. We stood for about 5 minutes at the entrance to the dining room when one of the ladies turned and said "Be with ya in a minute hun.....". And then went right back to her conversation with the other ladies. Yeah, that was the wait staff there. And that pretty much represents the standard of service for the evening. When we were finally seated it took 20 minutes before the same waitress returned to take our order............... and still no drinks. Food service was extremely slow. And the food that came out was really not good. I lived in Budapest, Hungary for two years and traveled throughout Eastern Europe. Pierogies here were ok. Stuffed cabbage decent. My beef goulash was just horrible and tasteless. I seriously think the gravy was made with one of those store packets. My wife really wanted some of their seafood........ but supposedly the seafood delivery didnt arrive that day........ none available. By the time we were finally finished with the meal nearly two hours later we were just relieved to get out of there. Oh, but only after another extended wait for the bill. In summary, food was bland, flavorless, and not tasty. Service was virtually non-existent and grumpy. This is not the hidden gem of Trenton as previously described. We're not returning.More

The restaurant is decorated either from the 70's or they just never updated it. The menu has many good selections but none of them were good. My sauerbrauten was smothered in gravy that wasn't to tasty. The beef goulash could have been out of the...can and same with the cream of mushroom soup. The chicken paprikash was missing something. Finally the apple strudel, had the top of it, then some brown mushed up stuff and like 3 Apple pies for a 6 in slice. The service was ok. The area were it is located is not desirable at all. Lock your car and hope you have tires on your return. Needless to say don't bother, make your own, it will be better then this.More

We love to try local places and so Blue Danube was the choice on a Thursday night. Rough part of Trenton (but not the roughest) - ample street parking. Made a reservation for 6:00 p.m. but did not need. Exterior worn down, interior more worn...down. "Greeted" (not enthusiastically) after a minute or two by the bartender (three people sitting at bar which is the first thing that greets you as you walk in the door) who sat us at the very first table as you walk in (there were no other visible guests that we saw). Again, everything old and as a result seemed dirty (including menus). It was polish and german night and after many many minutes of waiting bartender (who was our waiter as well) took our order. They have a liquor license and we ordered a czech and german beer which were nice and decently cold. Appetizers included (forgive spelling) spaetzel (nice) and perogi (bland). Bread was hot with very nice garlic butter. Salads were bland with a decent dill dressing. Dinners were Taste of Europe (ok), chicken soup (ok) polish kilbasa (excellent) and Pete's choice (OK). All food plus four beers = $85.00. I imagine that back in the day this place was awesome, but time has taken it's toll and nobody (including the owner who was there) really cares if they have customers...we only received the cursory "how are things" and the owner never came by. Seems to me the place relies on folks who have been coming for years but not too concerned about new folks or ensuring they keep things fresh, clean, etc. This would be a perfect restaurant for Robert Irvine's Restaurant Impossible because they have the basic food tastes down, but it could be improved and with a better ambiance and being cleaned up, it could be great.More

We went last nite after hearing about this place a few times. It's true, the neighborhood is not great, but we parked with no problem and went inside the restaurant. It is not a huge place, but probably has about 20 or so tables. It...was probably about 3/4 full. The menu is very complete, and it took me a long time to figure out what to order. (after all the reading I decided on chicken paprikash not very original huh) which was very tasty. It came with a nice salad, good bread and herbed butter, and spaetzle and a vegetable ( I selected spinach). For appetizers we shared mamliga (not sure if that is the right word but it was very good cornmeal with feta and sausage. The others had a sampler for the entree(whcih include stuvffed cabbage, sausage among other items, sauerbraten and noodles. The food was very good, very ample portions, and the service was fine. It was leisurely, but that is what we wanted. For dessert, we split the apple strudel which was excellent. I thought it was quite reasonably priced (most of the entress are between $13-18 or so and come with salad and veg). I will definitely go back.More

This was my first visit to BD. The neighborhood is little sketchy, parking is all on the street, but the food was very good. The wait staff was helpful and informative. I ordered the Jagerschnitzel and it was fabulous. The spaetzle was good. The rest...of our party all enjoyed there meals. There is a full bar and the food and drink price are reasonable.More

I had heard good things about Blue Danube and after seeing the very good T/A reviews we decided to dine here for a birthday dinner. We made reservations, and after finding a parking spot on the street (not the best neighborhood - we hoped the...car would still be there when we returned) entered what looked like a 1970's style restaurant. It was not very crowded on a Sunday night, however the 2 waitresses passed us numerous times without acknowledgment until we were eventually brought to a table. The menu was covered in clear plastic and reminded me of something that you can simply wipe clean. We ordered potato pancakes with applesauce as the appetizer. When they arrived we were surprised to see rather fat looking pancakes with not much taste. I was expecting the nice shredded potato pancakes but these were nothing at all like that. The restaurant was far from crowded and the service was lacking. Our dirty dishes stayed on the table even after our entrees had been served. I had to ask for a water refill twice before it finally arrived after about a 20 min. wait. Dinner - Party of 4 we ordered 1x Pierogies, 1x Kielbasa with sauerkraut, 1x stuffed cabbage with pierogies, and 1x Jaeger Schnitzel. The entrees were ok but nothing spectacular, except for the Jaeger Schnitzel which did NOT arrive with a nice dark mushroom hunter sauce, but instead was a thick schnitzel covered in a very gloppy light tan colored gravy with a few mushrooms. Sorry Blue Danube, but next time I will save the $130 and make this sort of dinner at home!More

While the area is a little sketchy, this place was very cozy. The service was a bit slow, but they were getting very busy, so I never would hold that against them. My boyfriend had the chicken paprikash w/ spaetzel, a side salad, & a...side of rice (which he really enjoyed). I had the pierogie platter w/ side salad (loved the creamy dill dressing), & a side of pickled beets (I also enjoyed these, but I think pierogies needed more filling-still delicious though). We were way too full for dessert, even though I wanted to try the apple studel! It was a nice little cozy restaurant w/ very friendly staff...we would come back again if we're in the area!More
