How Would They Cast A Black Phone Sequel?

While a The Black Phone sequel isn't in the works yet, the film grossed $159 million, so it's hard to believe that Universal Pictures won't be listening to the fan demand for a follow-up that is already swelling online. The Black Phone was written, both movie and book, with the intention of being a standalone story as. The Grabber dies in the end, after all. However, that doesn't mean there couldn't be a miraculous return for Ethan Hawke's Grabber. Other popular horror movies have gone the unexplained resurrection route, and The Grabber from The Black Phone could return for another installment. A death fakeout or retcon would probably be necessary for the success of a direct sequel, as Ethan Hawke's performance was a main highlight of the film. However, if the series were to go a different route, à la the Scream 2022 reboot, then casting for the next The Grabber would have to be handled very carefully. Casting matters a lot when it comes to legacy sequels, and if another The Black Phone movie were to happen, recasting The Grabber right after Hawke's incredible performance would be the biggest hurdle to overcome.
