In 1960, R. J. “Bob” Lee opened The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo Texas on Route 66, the “Mother Road”. Showed up early for our reservation and they kept seating customers that had just arrived. Very disorganized. Took us 30 minutes after our scheduled reservation time to get seated. After waiting 40 minutes for my steak they mistakenly gave it to another table and had to wait another while. Server was apologetic, but still very horrible experience.

Wow! Exceeded our expectations! This is a super fun atmosphere for the whole family. Live music, games, gift shop, bakery and the food was amazing! We drove from Dallas and it was worth it! We will be back!

The atmosphere is fun and a place you have to visit once. Our server was fantastic. Let’s talk about the food it was pricey and average tasting. One of my side dishes was beefsteak tomatoes. The tomato’s were tasteless and still had lots of green on them. The appitizers were not very good. On a positive note the steak was cooked beautifully and tasted great.

Interesting place. Steaks were very tender. Huge portions. Fried shrimp was tender and crisply. Duo walking around playing guitar and singing to each table and chatting. Fun atmosphere.

We had to wait 30 minutes to get seated. We had reservations. My prime rib was under cooked. Massive amount of people. Not worth it.

You have to go. They really know how to cook a steak. The food was so tasty and hot, and the service was quick and courteous. Atmosphere was family friendly.

This place is great. Old West decor, great steak selections, food was cooked perfectly to order. Sides were generous in size. Had to take the dessert to go because we were STUFFED. Reservations are probably a good idea.

The Big Texan has been on my bucket list for years, and it did not disappoint. I had the 12 oz ribeye, with okra and green chili cream corn. The steak was grilled to perfection and the sides were excellent. I also enjoyed a flight of 4 6oz beers which were very enjoyable. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Portions are generous My husband and I shared the BBQ Combo Sausage, ribs and sides were great! Brisket was on the dry side Restaurant could use some updating Our waitress, Cameron, was very good and attentive!

Our waitress was good, the calf fries were great and my wife's steak was perfectly cooked. The problem was my prime rib was cold. Not lukewarm, cold.

We were visiting the area from out-of state and looking for that big Texas steak experience. This was definitely the place. What a fun environment! We sat in the balcony which overlooked the entire restaurant. We even got to watch someone take on the 72 ounce steak challenge. The food was amazing. Glad we made reservations. We went on a Monday night and it was packed. If we ever pass through Amarillo again, we will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

Everything was absolutely perfect. We were seated immediately and greeted by our server quickly. Drinks delivered within 5 minutes along with salads and basket of the best warm rolls. Meals are huge serving and we both had to get to go boxes. There craft beers are amazing and offer a lot of choices. We also purchased 2 cupcakes to eat later, so good!!!

We got there late & they still sat us ,as well as, treated us like they had all the time to make our experience great. Out waitress was great! She was friendly, customer service oriented, and quick. The steak was wonderful! It was flavored perfectly and the taste was savory. A great American dinner !

Fun place to visit but steaks are a poor quality. Had the porterhouse which looked a little like a breakfast steak (very thin cut) and had a lot of gristle.

The Steak house is a fun atmosphere, the waitress was attentive and frequently asked if we needed anything. My husband’s ribeye steak was cooked as requested and seasoned adequately. I ordered the small prime rib. It was overdone, leaving it flavorless and tough. The au jas lacked flavor and was cool. The creamy horseradish was very tasty. This place came highly recommended and we really wanted to enjoy a good piece of beef cooked to perfection. I would recommend going to The Big Texas Steak Ranch as an experience, but do not order the prime rib.

We ate here once for dinner and once for lunch. For dinner, we were seated on the top floor way away from the fun. I was disappointed since this was going to be our only time to watch people try to earn their free steaks. (From CO). However, the service was great. I loved my food. They cook everything like you ask (my husband ordered wrong and got what he asked for). Everyone downstairs sounded like they were having a great time. We decided to go back for drinks and ended up having lunch. My husband ordered correctly and really enjoyed his meal. I ordered a kids' meal, and it came in a cute hat! I loved the mac 'n cheese and my quesadilla. This time we were seated on the main floor, and a woman was trying to get her free steak. At lunch with only one person trying, it was a bit boring, but I still enjoyed it. We watched the guys in the back cutting up those huge steaks. It was so interesting. Heads on the walls like you'd expect. Group seating for the most part - we were lucky enough to get booths.

Food was perfectly prepared to order, staff were all very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun. It was our first time eating here and was almost worth it just for the experience. Cool place, good people and great food. Would be a regular if we lived near by!

What a fun lively place! So much to see. The gift shop was fun, great trip presents. Our server was friendly and very helpful. We split the filet mignon dinner & got the “extra plate with side”. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and the sides were delicious. Split a Strawberry shortcake for dessert. YUM!

Reservation section needs to be handled better. Went to check in at desk and was told I would get a text saying table is ready. Yet people that just walked in the door got seated before us. Hard to sit down at tables when people are sitting down already due to chairs being back to back so close together.

Great experience all the way around from service, food and atmosphere. We arrived at 7:10 on a Friday night and I had reservation for 7:45 but got seated at 7:20. The wait time for people just coming in was 1h 45mins.

Enjoy the experience of the big Texan if you are in Amarillo! Bar drinks were refreshing. Salad is big and fresh, hubby’s first steak was overcooked but got a second one perfectly cooked. Friendly staff in a somewhat energetic environment!
