How to avoid killing the owlbear?
I've seen screenshots of the baby owlbear in the camp. How can one achieve that?
Also, is it possible to get the spear without killing the owlbear?
Is any of that possible without playing a druid?

When you approach the owlbear and "talk" to it, use the animal handling or intimidation options to avoid a fight, then leave (or use invisibility or something to loot the cave). Later in the game,in the goblin camp you will encounter the baby, since the goblins killed its mom and stole it. Play the chicken chasing game, win it, then persuade or intimidate the goblin that runs it to let you take the owlbear cub. After a long rest the baby should start coming to your camp. At this point, if you haven't looted the owlbear cave you can safely do it now, since the goblins have killed it . Being a druid, or someone who can speak to animals makes it easier, but you don't need it.
I can't get the prompt to take the owlbear cub, I played the game won it and got my earnings but when I talk to hear it just asks if I want to play again
I think I figured it out. Speak to the goblin, then the cub, make it like you and give it your scent, then talk to the goblin again and so some of the skillchecks to get it :)
ahhh ok thats the one thing i didnt try yet, thank you so much for the help!
Also note that since this was originally posted 2 years ago, they've added a potion of speak to animals to the first part of the cave if you go left down to the statue.
Indeed. I was hoping for this solution too.
After you encounter the Owlbear mother in the cave, make sure to long rest a couple times before going to the Goblin camp. If you go there immediately after the cave, the cub won't be there.
In the Goblin camp, you also don't have to play the Chicken Chase game if you don't want to. You can say you'll play it, then just go back to the goblin and tell her you refuse and you're taking the cub with you.
This is what concerns me a little about the test system - important story bits are locked behind it. If I didn’t need to long rest at this point, I’d miss the chance to get the cub. Knowing this is how you get it, the game forces you to arbitrarily use resting resources. I appreciate this isn’t a big deal right now because the resources are so plentiful (which makes someone wonder why they changed the system in the first place…). However, if resources become scarce on release, this sort of gatekeeping will become an issue.
You don't need to do a full rest (with food), a partial rest (long rest without food) works just as well. As you said, you still need to know to do a long rest (or get lucky) in order for this to work, but resources aren't an issue.
I can’t get this dialogue option to happen sadly, and when I tried to run the race when I spoke to the owl bear cub I could only encourage it to attack the goblins

This is what I did.
Talked to the owlbear mother in the cave with animal handling then left
Long rested a few times
Went to the goblin camp
Played chicken chaser
Talked to the owlbear after the game. I think i used animal handling again. And got the dialog that said it would come to my camp after I dealt with the goblins
Next I poisoned their beer trough. Passed all the dialog options it triggered
Then after some of the goblins died of poisoning it showed up in my camp after a few long rests
How do you poison the beer. That is so cool.
There's a beer bin thing near the patrol route the bug bear walks. When you click it when none of the goblins are looking you can combine it with an item. And I combined the beer with basic poison.
I’m late as fuck to this lol but I got this game like 3 days ago. I killed the goblins before I went to the owl ears cave and he’s not here. Got any idea what to do?
Weird. Which goblins? The ones in the first camp or the ones in the main camp?
Also, did you talk to the dying true soul near the Grove already?
I did the same as you. Go back to the owlbear cave, see the mother dead, then the bear will show up at your camp a few long rests later.
