Thankfully skin cancer is preventive and you are able to remove it in the early stages. So long as it hasn't spread (I lost a few of my family members by it spreading) he should recover

u/mage_irl avatar

My mom died from skin cancer only a little while back. Despite treatment and and a positive outlook from the doctors beforehand, she died within 6 months of the diagnosis. That's to say, skin cancer might be more treatable than other types of cancer, but you still need to get checkups.

Definitely. Checkups are so important. Keeping an eye on moles. Changes in colour and texture etc. People also need to be aware the sunscreen doesn't make you safe from it, it only protects. You can also get it in an area that never sees the sun. I didn't say that to ignore the suffering of people. I only addressed this to help prevent fear mongering, since this community (and wider world) has already been hurt too much from cancer. I'm sorry about your mum mate. I wish you never had to feel such a pain

Sunscreen can also give you cancer. So...

"S is for sunscreen, and also for Sun. Both will give you cancer, now isn't that fun?"

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. What stage and where was it located at the time of diagnosis? Only if you're comfortable sharing, of course. ♡

I'm not a doctor so take everything I learnt with a grain of salt, this is just what I understood of what they told me.

It was fairly late, that's all she told me. She had multiple locations affected. The first one was on her back, and later she grew a tumor under her arm. She was taking some medication that attacked her tumor diectly for a few months, that messed with her appetite. I spent a lot of time trying to prepare different foods for her to get her to eat anything, until I found out that it was citric acid causing her to feel sick when combined with the medication. It's in a surprising amount of foods, but once we cut that out, she started to eat more again.

The medication made the tumor grow smaller and we almost thought it would fix it, until it started growing again. At that point, she was scheduled for chemo. She was given a contrast agent that is supposed to help with making things more visible in an MRI scan. She was taking that stuff for about a week before being sent to the hospital. When she arrived there, they did blood tests and realized that her liver was failing. She probably didn't drink enough, and combined with all the heavy medication and especially the contrast agent she was getting it was simply too much for the liver to handle. They tried to stabilize it for a few days and postponed the chemo at first. From there it all went very quickly, because without the treatment she declined very fast. Her liver only marginally improved. She didn't eat. She never even got to try the chemo.

Doctors decided with her that it would be best to put her in palliative care, where she spent about two weeks before dying in her sleep. She was on heavy doses of morphine, and while she occasionally felt some pain, especially when moving, I think the doctors and nurses at the palliative care station did a good job easing her suffering during that time. I got to see her a few times during those weeks and got to watch football with her, which was one of her favorite things to do. I think even sick as she was, people could hear her cheering a few rooms over. Life can be cruel sometimes, but in the end I think she lived a good life. I hope that some day I can go with as much grace and bravery as she did, and that I leave a family behind that loves me as much as we loved her.

yea my grandma also got skin cancer and caught it in eraly stages so it was able to get removed.

u/Gswizzlee avatar

My dad has stage 3c skin cancer. He never even realized it was cancer and had his normal checkups and stuff, I don’t remember how they found it but he had a melanoma. He’s in immunotherapy and if that doesn’t work then it’s chemo. It sucks man

nooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Was he vaxxed?

🤦🏻‍♂️

Cancer cannot be properly fought by the immune system and thus cannot be vaccinated against

Yea

I've never been a fan of Ninja's content but nobody deserves cancer

u/ialo3 avatar

same here. i actively dislike the guy, but i could never wish actual harm onto him because i personally find him annoying. annoying or not, no one deserves this kinda shit, and i hope he gets better. FUCK CANCER!

Why do you actively dislike him? I don’t really pay any attention to him I just know he was a big Fortnite streamer like 6 years ago

u/Nopebruhugay avatar

“i could never wish actual harm onto him because i personally find him annoying” they think he’s annoying

I guess it’s fair if they think he’s annoying personally I never really thought he was but I didn’t watch him much at all either

He's kind of a toxic asshole.

That being said, nobody that's simply an asshole deserves a disease.

u/ForgetfulFrolicker avatar

Odd thing to say.

u/Impostor_Balloon avatar

I don’t think he meant it in a bad way

Me neither, I feel sometimes people don’t understand that you can show concern for someone you don’t like

u/athaznorath avatar

just kinda weird to preface well wishes with "i dont like you but..." imagine being in a hospital and getting a card like that 😶

You typically don’t send those cards to people you don’t like

Techno recruiting the best Fortnite players to pick up his slack in the fight against god

But seriously though, skin cancer is one of the easiest to treat when it’s at early stages. He’s been living in California so it’s not the biggest surprise that he got it, it’s commoner in sunny states. James A Janise of Dead Meat got it through a tanning bed, and he’s still here with us.

Like he said, it was an annual check, because he lives in the climate. Could be wrong, but NYC is also a UV trap basically. Either way glad he does that annual check so this can get cleared soon. Stay strong Tyler, you handled New Years on a rainy NYC day, that’s badass.

God was done the minute Techno found him. Techno doesn’t need help!

I know skin cancer isn’t bad in the scheme of things but it is still cancer and is still terrible.

Yeah but Techno was notoriously bad at sniping!

Yeah, cancer is terrible, but skin cancer is probably the most wide spread when it comes to survivors, even my old therapist had it! Ninja’s strong willed, no matter what he can make it through

We said the same thing about techno while yes his cancer was much more deadly than Ninja's Cancer is a bitch and likes to spread and no amount of will can stop that the best you can hope for is the treatments kill all the cancer

Sun damage causes lots of skin cancers, including melanoma. However, skin cancer on the feet is less likely to be sun damage related. Unless he is frequent beach goer.

Idk, but either way it’s important in sunnier climates which is probably why he does the check, this specific case didn’t happen to be sun related, just some bad luck

I don’t watch Fortnite or ninja, BUT BROOOO. What The Flip! Thank god it’s just skin cancer which is treatable, but cancer of any kind is still terrible to go through. Hope he gets better soon.

FUCK CANCER 🖕

u/Electronic_Suit551 avatar

Man, every YouTuber suddenly quits, gets cancelled, or dies. I am losing everyone.

Edited

You are already expecting Ninja to die? Assuming he hasn’t quit or been cancelled. Of all cancers, melanoma is pretty minor, if caught early and it hasn’t spread. If the edges are clean, he probably won’t need any further treatment

u/Electronic_Suit551 avatar

Sorry. PTSD from techno

Welp, that's reality folks and it's scary as hell when we encountered for an unexpected situations like this.

u/Electronic_Suit551 avatar

Especially recently with Wilbur and George

Just George is innocent

u/Electronic_Suit551 avatar

I haven't really looked at the George situation too much. I did with Wilbur and I'm honestly so sad, he was my favorite YouTuber and musical artist.

currently have melanoma. ninja should hopefully be fine if they did indeed catch it in early stages. but melanoma is aggressive and spreads fast. hopefully he gets clear margins with this next biopsy!! fuck cancer.

What's your outlook like? Did they catch it early? I had a scare with melanoma awhile back so I did a lot of research on it. Hope you get better friend.

everyone’s prognosis is different. but im stage 3a and i have a good amount of treatments plus 2 surgeries scheduled. but i caught mine late. but ninja will probably have to do immunotherapy as well.

FUCK NO!

More replies

PLEASE TELL ME HE’S GONNA GET BETTER SOON

He probably is. The caught the melanoma in a very early stage, so it is just removing it.

Melanoma is dangerous when people say skin cancer is treatable often times it’s squamous or basal but melanoma is the worst form

I had an aunt die ro melanoma. Trust me, i know that.

More replies

That's what we said with Techno!

u/Ashesnhale avatar

It's a different type of cancer. Sarcoma doesn't have a lot of treatments but melanoma (skin cancer) does. He generally has a higher chance of recovery than Techno did. Fingers crossed for him!

u/NamesNG avatar

Techno's doctor took a long long time to remove it. It also was a much harder type of cancer to treat (sarcoma) whereas this is just melanoma which is pretty tame and easy to treat (exposed + slow growing + far away from internal organs + replaceable)
Worst case scenario you remove the skin, which is pretty easy to do.

Dont remind me about that 😭

Is cancer getting more common? Feels like since Techno died I’m hearing of well-known people getting it a lot more often.

Confirmation bias. Ever since Technoblade was diagnosed, you have probably been paying attention to it more, and remembering it better when it does happen

Nope cancer is literally getting more common because of Global warming the extra heat, pollution, and UV light are terrible on the Human body which hasn't developed for this harsher climate

While it is getting more common, it is not at such a rate that you can notice it by suddenly seeing more people get diagnosed. It’s a lot less dramatic than you’re making it out to be

u/SilentCalamity avatar

I don’t even think cancer is “more” common, it’s just that more people are getting diagnosed and the longer people live, the more likely they are to develop it.

Yet a lot of insurance companies don't even cover skin cancer screenings, saying they are medically unnecessary.

That’s horrible!
