In 1909, artist Pamela Colman Smith’s involvement with the Order of the Golden Dawn led to a commission to create a 78-card tarot deck that was the first to include full pictorial scenes for the Minor Arcana. Pamela’s mystical influences are evident throughout the art.

Customer Review: Nice addition to my tarot readings

About the author
I was born in the north of England and learned tea leaf reading as a child. It was common practice in our family to drink a morning cup of tea then read the tea leaves to see what kind of a day you were going to have. I found tea leaf reading to be incredibly accurate and worked hard to sharpen my skills and knowledge of the tea leaf symbols. Fortunately, I was never without friends or relatives to practice on. A few years ago some friends were eager to learn tea leaf reading but were daunted when they saw the list of more than five hundred symbols they would have to memorize. After all, these were busy career people with little time to spare and they asked if there wasn't some easier way. It was then that I came up with the idea of creating a set of cards based on the ancient Chinese tea leaf symbols that would make it easy for anyone to tell his or her fortune.

There are in total 200 cards, including the Months Cards (12), Astral House Cards (6), and Symbols Cards (182). The book is quite nice, since it talks about tea reading, and give some spreads, but it does not add a lot of information to the cards. In fact, you can read the cards with the meaning that it is written directly on them.
182 cards are very difficult to shuffle, like you can see on the images, and the bag is quite flimsy to use it constantly, so my recommendation is to put them directly on a table or a big surface to use them.
Accuracy of the cards depends on how you use them, and how often. I bought them on March, and we are now in December. Unfortunately, I haven’t used them a lot, but the year reading spread that comes in the book has been quite good, and resulted extremely accurate in some aspects. I made that reading on March, and some of the events predicted occurred in the same month the cards told me, October. I was extremely surprised.
Overall, nice deck to have, different, and sometimes accurate when used correctly. Recommended for those who want to experience something new, or those who haven’t found a method that works well for them.

I was just starting out doing intuitive readings. I asked my querent, are you familiar with William Blake? Because the cards are giving me this name. He said yes, and my name is Josh Blake. And so I loved the deck because of the intuition that opened up whilst reading it. There are two hundred cards, so I divided mine into two. One I actually look at when I'm reading the Bible. It's made up of everyday things so I feel like it would work even with the most stringent of religions. It's a prompt!!
As a card reader, I'm very familiar with Tarot, cartomancy and the LeNormand Oracle. I love all things related to readings by means of any instrument from cartomancy and the crystal ball to tea leaf reading and palmistry. Many of the images coincide with the Gypsy Witch and LeNormand style, therefore this was not too much of a stretch for me to incorporate my fundamental understanding and bridge it to this system. I think the only complaint I have, as did another person who provided a review, is that not all of the astrological signs were provided. Therefore not all of the zodiac signs are represented. There was a feeble explanation for this, but I'm sorry, it just doesn't make sense to include 1/2 of a well known system and exclude the other half of that same complimentary method which is traditionally incorporated in actual tea leaf reading.
There are about 200 cards total in this system, the majority being the tea leaf symbols. Unfortunately the 12 months are provided instead of the 12 signs. There are other ways to determine timelines, so I feel this was an unnecessary inclusion and would have been better served to use the 12 signs instead. If money was the issue than there are several similar meaning symbols included that could have been ruled out in favor of adding this layer into the reading. Its reqlly not that difficult to imagine a four leaf clover being all that different symbolically to a horseshoe or a window vs a door for that matter. That being said, any person familiar with astrological concepts can designate the months as signs and you will have a fine representation for both depending on how you want to utilize it and as with all tools used for these purposes - intention is key! So this is really a minor issue.
The packaging includes a pretty little bag that is intended to be used to "shuffle" or mix up the cards. Unfortunately it is not very functional although well intended and was a good idea in theory. The cards get stuck and caught up on the bag - its just not the right material for the job or perhaps not big enough. This is a case of the cook not tasting the meal prior to serving the guests. I think if they had actually tested it prior to being on the assembly line they would have come to the same conclusion. It's a bit cumbersome to try to shuffle 200 cards as if you are playing a card game. I have found breaking them up into a few smaller stacks, shuffling and slowly integrating the shuffled cards together works well enough. Or you can place all the cards on the table and swish them around until they are thoroughly mixed up. I personally do a combination of both methods. Then I draw randomly the number of cards intended for the reading.
Overall, this is a great gift item for card enthusiasts as well as novice tea leaf readers and I would not hesitate to give this as a gift to the right person. The cards, box and book are on the higher end in terms of quality. The price can't be beat for all that is included. YES, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TO OTHERS!
I really enjoy these cards. The art and messages are awesome. There's 200 of them in the box, a cute bag to shuffle them in (though I usually use my hands and fan them out in front of me to pick), and the companion book.
The cards are round and on the smaller side but not too small. They're perfect size to hold and shuffle.
