Taylor Kinney’s Chicago Fire Exit: Did Severide’s ‘Final’ Episode Already Air?
It looks Taylor Kinney‘s leave of absence will hit Chicago Fire this week.
TVLine has learned that Wednesday’s episode of the NBC drama will address the abrupt departure of Lieutenant Kelly Severide, which comes following last month’s news that Kinney would be taking a break from the show.
It remains unclear if the actor will appear in this week’s installment, or if Severide’s absence will be explained via other characters. Severide is not mentioned in the official synopsis for the hour, titled “Damage Control.”
As we reported on Jan. 20, Kinney is taking a leave of absence from his role to deal with a personal matter. The production was notified of Kinney’s news on that Friday, and given the unexpected turn of events, script rewrites were required to account for why Severide is missing in action.
TVLine helpfully came up with several scenarios for how the series could explain the firefighter’s temporary vanishing act, which included storylines about a rescue gone wrong and a trip to help out Matt Casey in the Pacific Northwest. But it appears that the show might be going with an explanation closer to our Office of Fire Investigation idea. In the vaguely ominous final minutes of last Wednesday’s episode, the firefighter seemed to have received a note from (or about?) his OFI boss.
“Hey, I got your message about Van Meter. What’s going on?” Severide’s wife Stella asked him. He then turned his phone toward her so she could read the screen, after which she responded, “Wow. What are you going to do?” And then the episode cut to black. Rude!

So true Kathy….And hopefully they’ll stop pushng Carver into his role….That seems the way it’s going….Kelly & Stella is the show….Just wanting Kelly to come back…He shoukd leave the show to help his Mom….
I think there going to say that van Metter has a high case priority job and it’s under wraps hopefully it won’t take long he will be missed at least by me.
Van Meter had a massive coronary and had an emergency heart bypass and will be unable to work for a minimum of 6 weeks (we can leave the time frame open). Kelly is asked to fill in. I do believe that we have seen the last of Severide until his leave of absence is over.
Now watch Wednesday’s episode prove me wrong.🤨
He’s bored and is leaving the show for better offers. Doubt that he comes back….sad. Will be interesting to see what kind of story the writers have come up with.
If he doesnt come back thats it for me. This is my favorite show of all times. I love the original cast. Shay was the startbof these writers to teach loss i guess because since shay they have taken off one by one, every favorite character I have otis chili casey gabby now severide? Hes my all time fav and stella too. They are losing me. And tgatd a damn shame this is the best show out there gands down. Pkease dont go Taylor.

I think that he has fallen in love with a woman, that is not his usual kind of person. She doesn’t want to hurt his reputation, he is giving up every thing for her!!!!!
However the show will write him off as going to work with the Arson department

Who cares? it’s always personal reasons. If one of the most loved characters on one of your favorite shows decides to take a hike? Does he/she realize how many lives they are ruining in their cast mates or their avid followers? If they don’t make their reason for leaving the show public, we all assume a better offer and more money came through.I will never watch this show again.
It could be a health issue, an injury, an addiction, mental health, declining health of a close friend or family member, or another offer amongst many, many other things.
Do you know what all of those reasons had in common?
They’re all valid reasons to take a leave and they’re all none of your business.
Celebrities don’t owe you or anyone else details about their personal lives.

Spot on Laurie. As for Bonnie, if Taylor Kinney taking a leave of absence (or if he departs the show), is ruining your life because you are an “avid follower,” you need to get some help. It’s a TV show, it’s entertainment, no more, no less.

I will miss him, but he has no contractual obligations or personal obligations to fans to say on.
I do hope the story line is that he has gone to work for OFI, leave it open ended so he could come back when or if he wishes.
I get the disappointment but without ever knowing the full scope of circumstances (in life there’s always more to things than we see, hear, believe, or know), are trying to dictate what someone else does with their life, as if that person should revolve their life around you or any of us. You act like someone like Taylor Kinney turns on the fans, but rare people like you are turning on him/them when they do that because you selfishly can’t benefit from his/ their presence on a show.
Again, disappointment is one thing. Anger to the point of tantrums is another level.
If your life is “ruined” because an actor leaves a TV show, you might want to look within.
Could you sound more entitled?
It was obvious that his leave started while filming the last episode, he was really not involved in any of the main storylines last week and only was seen in quick small scenes. I would guess they re-wrote the stories to exclude Severide (I would guess the Ritter story was expanded)
The now has lost it’s two main male leads in a year and have not replaced either (Carver is still listed as a Guest Star and not a main character). They need to bring in at least one new lead male character. They need a new Lieutenant or Captain.
He’s taking time from the show for a personal reason, his character is dead.
Your writers have so little to write about that they have to try and create something out of nothing. Is it because you blew Matt Casey’s exit?
I actually liked his relationship with Stella. With Jesse leaving PD as with other stars that left on their own terms, I learned they may want to do something else especially since it can be daunting filming in the cold windy city. I wish him well regardless.
Hopefully Taylor’s rehab is going well and he can be back on the show soon.

I see a synopsis for the next episode of Kidd and Carver working with Seager. That would seem a little strange if Kelly was subbing for van Meter.
Please bring Severide back, he makes the show so much interesting. Please Please 🙏
I know this , forking means the same thing if you use it in that context you silly fork. See what I mean? Back to topic, I know this, if Taylor K , Severide, goes anywhere for very long I probably wont watch the show anymore. Just get comfortable and familiar with the characters and you write them off. Severide cannot be “wrote off” just dont do it, unless you want the show to die. Just keeping it 100 folks.
This is the only show I watch ALOT. Every Tues all day long 12 hours. I usually miss the current show because of life. But Im addicted to this show. My favorite thing to do to take my mind off my crappy life. But if you keep making me grieve for these characters,I might as well go back to my life of loss. I challenge the writers to find one who can even come close to replacing Taylors character, Severide. So far you dont have him, just so you know. Dont do something stupid because youre bored. Some people stayvin your life , your whole life. They are there always, just like the sun and moon you can set your clock by them. Yes thats boring and thats exciting both. Please figurevit out Severide and Stella cannot go they are the sun and moon to me and the people they save every day.

Whether or not we’ve seen the last of Severide, Chicago Fire will go on. Cast members leave TV shows all the time, typically from burnout. Persuit of other opportunities is usually the stock reason given for the departure, but filming a network series has to be a tremendous grind after doing it for several years. If TK has chosen to leave, for whatever reason, I respect that decision. If he’s truly on break and returns later, great, but if Firehouse 51 is in his rearview that’s fine as well.
I do hope things work out favorably for him on the personal front. His character, and beautiful smile< will be missed while he is away from the show. I hope he comes back ready for action.
By the way, what is going on with Boden's character. If I blinked in the last episode, I would have missed him altogether. Please don't get us loving these characters then take them away.
Whatever the reason is, I think, all of us, who have watched this show, since its inception, want Mr.Kinney to come back, to the show. He adds a lot to its makeup and, if he chooses not to return, will be truly missed!
But…..we hope he chooses to come back, to this wonderful show. Again, if he really chooses not to…..to let him know that he will truly be missed! GOD BLESS & GOOD LUCK, in whatever you choose to do !

This is RIDICULOUS! We had wanted those 2 to get together for the LONGEST TIME and now that they are married just to end it like that! I and so many others are upset at this and its going to make me rethink watching the same day.

Out of the blue, my hubby mentioned that Taylor Kinney was leaving ChicagoFire. I’ve checked online & he’s taking a leave of absence for now for a personal matter.
Hopefully he will sort out this matter and will be able to come back. If not, I will miss him terribly.
