Former USWNT star Sydney Leroux announces split from Dom Dwyer

Soccer’s power couple is no more.

Sydney Leroux announced she and fellow soccer player husband Dom Dwyer were separating in a Twitter post on Friday.

“I have always been a transparent person,” Leroux wrote. “With that, I would like to share that Dom and I are ending our marriage. My children have always been and always will be my first priority. I ask that you respect my family’s privacy during this time. Thank you.”

Leroux, 31, is a player with the NWSL’s Orlando Pride and was a member of the 2012 Olympic women’s soccer squad that won a gold medal in London. She married Dwyer, 31, in a star-studded wedding in January of 2015. The couple shares two children: Cassius and Roux.

Fans first noticed that the couple was not posting about one another as often on social media — both are notoriously open and constantly posting. Dwyer did not wish Leroux a happy birthday nor send a Mother’s Day message. Leroux also changed her Instagram name from Sydney Leroux Dwyer back to Sydney Leroux, and all photos of the couple since 2019 have been deleted off her page.

The couple’s separation comes as Dwyer signed a contract with Toronto FC in May 2021. Leroux and Dwyer previously played in the same city; between 2016-17, she played for FC Kansas City as he competed for Sporting Kansas City. When Dwyer went to Orlando City in 2017, Leroux was traded to the Pride.
