For generations, nobles have gathered at a scenic estate once per year to compete. What transpires there is spoken of only in rumors, save for the prizes. Potent, powerful, and precious; the winners are said to receive a gift from magic itself.

Reeling after their loss to Kalzidar, the adventurers from Maplebark can only press forward, following advice imparted by the gods. Their divine directions will lead them on a series of twisting paths, branching between old friends and new challenges, before ultimately pointing at a particular estate on a specific evening.

Thrust from the familiar comfort of the wilds, the party will have to navigate the perils of noble society while keeping themselves in the competition. Between scheming nobles, a hidden high priest, dangerous challenges, and too many familiar faces, just making it out alive will be a challenge. But surviving alone won’t be enough; not with a vengeful god scheming in the shadows, and a stolen soul waiting for rescue.

If the party wants their chance to strike back, they’ll have to find a way to emerge victorious.

Awesome story, hope there's more

The story is very engaging and well thought out. It pulls you in from the start, surprises you, and leaves you wondering how it will end. I was surprised how fast I read through the first book in the series, and I picked up each following one in the set and did the same. I know these show up as a set of 5 currently but I hope that Drew Hayes puts more out. 5 stars, highly recommended

Not your everyday fantasy series

Drew's Superpowered series is an epic, intertwined story of many characters and a well thought out backstory. Reading this series, I wasn't looking for that again but it's just as complex and involved and makes you really want to know more than he's telling you. Where Superpowered's background story was smart, well thought out, and fun, it was a bit obvious. This series, I have NO idea what's coming next and I cannot wait. I cannot recommend this series enough to every fan of fantasy.

Absolutely great fantasy rpg series. The trope of "the world of the game is actually real" is very easy to do wrong and have come out hokey. Drew Hayes does a great job of walking that tight rope and keeping things together in a fun, engaging, narrative. Sometimes, you even forget that this a game story, feeling like you are reading an extremely high quality fantasy novel. There are still some times when the characters take a bit too long to figure something that is plainly spelled out, but nothing is perfect and those moments have grown increasingly rare as the series has progressed.

If possible, I highly recommend the audiobooks; the voice acting in them is top notch. Hope book 5 comes out ASAP, can't wait to see what Thistle and Co. get up to next!

The reviews I see claim this series is great for D&D fans. Probably? I don't know. My husband is a D&D fan while I am distinctly NOT.
You don't need to be a fan or even really have a passing knowledge of the game to thoughly enjoy this series. It could be any game, anywhere. What happens when the players aren't present? Sure, evil Kings and ancient dragons sound cool, but what about the people who actually have to live there?
This series follow characters who are just trying to get by in a world where adventurers show up and treat everything like a game.
This series is a page-turner from the start. I highly recommend is and am anxiously awaiting Book 5.

Drew Hayes is an author from Texas who has written several books and found the gumption to publish a few (so far). He graduated from Texas Tech with a B.A. in English, because evidently he's not familiar with what the term "employable" means.
