The Dalmar, Fort Lauderdale, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

The Dalmar, Fort Lauderdale, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Fort Lauderdale|0.67km from The Boarding
The Dalmar is aesthetically gorgeous. Well appointed rooms and lobby area - modern, minimalist decor, really great! I was apprehensive to stay here after the reviews I read online which is why I came here to leave a good one! This is a 5-star stay at a 4-star property with a few caveats: - pool bar service: may be the rudest bartenders I have ever seen at a Marriott property, they could use some service training. It was as if the hotel guests were a bother to them. (The towel attendant on the other hand was very nice!) - the breakfast amenity for platinum elite is confusing and it shows it’s not just the guests that are confused. I was handed a voucher that reads “good for continental breakfast for 2, gratuities included”. When I got to the lobby bar that services breakfast, I was told the voucher was good for $12 off (and nothing on the menu is $12 or less) — and that we’d need a second voucher for my wife. They eventually took the $24 off our bill but I will say I’ve stayed at tons and tons of Marriott properties and have never owed a balance on a platinum breakfast. The breakfast was just ok, we opted to go to the “top hat” across the street the next day and it was amazing! Take the points instead of $12 off. The good stuff that I’d note; - the Dalmar does have free bottled water. My experience is you had to ask for it. - pool is beautiful though the deck is just ok. - rooms are really nice though I found it to be very cold. And I love AC, just couldn’t find a comfortable temperature. - full size shampoo/conditioner/body wash bottles in shower and hand wash/lotion is a nice touch. - I didn’t take advantage of these but the hotel offers access to a yoga studio below, and chairs/umbrella at the Ritz Carlton’s beach. I’d return but probably only for quick trips (3 nights or less).

Great location for Las Olas (10 min walk at most), rooms have a small kitchenette which is handy if required. This hotel claimed to be eco friendly but in order to have hot water we had to run the shower for at least 15 minutes. We reported this 3 times and eventually we gave up with the hotel and contacted booking.com who kindly assisted us by asking the hotel to upgrade us to a suite. This itself took 2 phone calls for 2 different booking.com agents, as the first request was not met and even the second attempt took forever as nobody answered the phone. The hot water was slightly better once moved but not much. Housekeeping only come once a week. They claimed this was due to Covid but we were not told about this upon check in. When we asked about having our room serviced the staff were very disgruntled and said it was only every 3 days but we could ask for house keeping for specific days if required. Not only did the story change from 7 to 3 days but when we did ask it wasn't done, unless you called and asked twice at least. Staff are unfriendly and sigh not only on the phone (that is if they even answer the phone) but in person! Completely disinterested, unhelpful and rude. Without a doubt, the worst customer service we have ever experienced in any hotel ever. The bar area is lovely but both times we went down for a drink there were no staff so we went elsewhere. Do not stay at this place - this is not what you would expect from the Marriot chain - extremely disappointing.

In addition to the high price, the parking fee has to be paid an extra 33, and there is only valet parking. You cannot park by yourself. Except for tipping every time, it feels not very convenient. Others are very good.
Artrageous on The River by RocketStay
3.9/572 Reviews
My husband and I rented this place starting in November 2021 hoping to stay here for six months - our retirement plan is to spend winters in Florida and we wanted a base while looking to purchase our own place. The location seemed great. We signed a month-to-month contract with a 30-day cancellation clause and communicated very clearly our desired length of stay. They responded that the rate would increase in the high season, starting in January, which we understood. We selected a unit with river views. When we got here, the unit looked nothing like the pictures. Forget about the rug, pillows, artwork on the walls - not of that was present, it was a stark white ”box” with two uncomfortable sofas - no pillows, no throws - an utterly uncomfortable bed, a kitchen missing a lot of the essentials - it had only one pot, a couple of pans, no mixing or salad bowl, no wine glasses, mismatched silverware... the list goes on. It looks like they outfitted the kitchen with stuff gathered at a flea market or the leftovers of a student appartment. As for the river views, we rather looked onto the parking lot, facing east, so we could get a glimpse of the river if we looked far to the left. When it came time to pay the second month, we had to chase them and ask how to process the payment. Their response was that our reservation was not renewed for the second month. We explained that we had gotten no notification, argued, and they processed another month's payment. The following day, the housekeeping team knocked on our door and told us we had to vacate. Clearly, the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. We called Rocket Stay again and they told us they would clear things up with their team. That day, we also got a 30-day cancellation notice from them - they were kicking us out! The reason why is the outrageous price they're asking for the unit during the high season. They did not hold true to their word that we could stay here for our entire planned stay while paying an increased rate. Every dealing with these people was difficult - we seemed to have a very clear understanding at the start but nothing was as depicted going forward. A light bulb burned in the closet, we gave up after 2 weeks and repeated requests, we figured we would never a light bulb from them. The place is also supposed to sleep 6 with the 2 sofas but there are beddings only for one bed, only 2 sets of towels. Not sure what we would have done had we expected guests to come visit. Please do not book this place, it's awful. There's also a ”gentleman” living on his boat on the river right across from the parking lot, he owns a Harley, comes and goes at 1-2 am, has ”buddies” over who park on the grass, talk loudly and no one does anything about it. Feels very sketchy, I stay in with the blinds closed at night. I would give this place 0 circles if I could hence the 1-circle rating. The only positive was that the unit smelled and looked clean when we walked in - and it was fo
