Sunderland, Cardiff and Birmingham race to sign Musa Drammeh – sources

Sunderland, Cardiff City and Birmingham City are plotting moves to sign Sevilla forward Musa Drammeh on a free transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

Drammeh is currently playing for the La Liga club’s B team – Sevilla Atletico – and has helped them secure promotion to the third tier of Spanish football this season.

Sunderland saw offers rejected for the 22-year-old in the January transfer window and have now been joined in the race to sign him by fellow Championship sides Birmingham and Cardiff.

The Barcelona-born forward, who can play up front or as a right attacker, has rejected contract offers to remain with Sevilla and is set to leave the club on a free transfer when his deal expires this summer.

Drammeh’s power, pace and versatility have alerted multiple clubs to his availability, with the interested parties believing he could potentially have all the attributes to be a success in English football.

Sunderland to battle Cardiff and Birmingham for Musa Drammeh

It’s been a promising year for Drammeh, having registered 10 goals and three assists in 30 appearances.

That form has prompted Sevilla to try and extend his contract, but the forward clearly feels his chances of first-team football may be improved elsewhere.

It would be a relatively low-risk transfer for any of the Championship sides in question, given that he’s available on a free and his wage demands are unlikely to be high for a second-tier club.

Sunderland will no doubt be keen to ensure he heads to the Stadium of Light after their previous advances were turned down in January as they look to add another budding talent to their already youthful squad.

A battle could emerge to secure Drammeh’s signature in the coming weeks, with Cardiff and Birmingham also looking to add him to their ranks this summer.
