SALT LAKE CITY — As most of the festival will be hosted online this year, tickets for the 2021 Sundance Film Festival go on sale Thursday.
The tickets will be available to purchase starting at 12 p.m. Mountain Time. The festival runs January 28 to February 3.
"The work in this year's program is groundbreaking, imaginative, and formally daring," Sundance Festival Director of Programming Kim Yutani said in a news release last month. "With over half the program made by first-time directors, a sense of discovery remains true to us at Sundance. This year's Festival presents irrefutable evidence that despite the challenges, the independent voice is as strong as ever."
All films on the festival program, including the 72 features and all short films, will be available online in the United States. Some of the films will also be available across the world.
With limited in-person events happening at Sundance this year, as well as a shorter schedule, passes and tickets are less expensive than in past years. Tickets for single film screenings are $15, while festival passes, which get you full access to everything happening at the festival, are $350, according to the Sundance website.
Sundance is also offering $75 day passes, which will allow access to any festival event for a single day.
A $100 award winners pass will allow you to watch all 32 award-winning films after they're announced on February 3. Finally, the $25 Explorer Pass allows holders to view Sundance's indie series, New Frontier and shorts programming on-demand.
Though the festival will be mostly online through Sundance's revamped website, the feature films won't be fully on-demand. Passholders will still need to reserve a spot for film premieres, which have a limited number of virtual seats available. The last day to reserve a spot for a film premiere will be January 28.
There will be five film premieres every day of the festival, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. MST. Two days after those films premiere, there will be a 24-hour second screening window for people to view the films on-demand.
