WIDE SARGASSO SEA

by | Read by Jill Masters

Fiction • 6 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1966

Jean Rhys gives form and substance to the mysterious madwoman of Jane Eyre. This imaginary story constructs Antoinette Bertha Cosway's early years in Jamaica in the 1830's. Jill Masters's West Indies dialect is excellent. It is a bright relief from her dour elecution of instruction on how to handle and care for audio tapes; she continues this stern line through a lengthy synopsis of the author's life and works. Overall, her impeccably precise enunciation is more important to her than the story itself. J.P. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN 93]
