Suits Season 8 Episode 9 Review: Motion to Delay

The firm was under attack, the antagonists of the hour were coming after them, and it was goddamn bullshit.
In other words, Suits Season 8 Episode 9 was a standard installment of Suits.
All snark aside, the heart of Suits is the interesting bonds and dynamics, particularly those between the mentor/mentees.
Did the nostalgia kick in a bit for you when Katrina sought ought Harvey for advice and received some from Louis?
Harvey is great at mentoring, and with Mike gone, it's nice to see him tap into that a bit with Katrina.
Katrina is attempting to have a protege of her own with Brian, but it's not the same. She is playing with fire.
Their friendship is amazing. They make excellent partners, so it's no surprise that her first order of business after making Senior Partner was to make him her associate.
Katrina: I just made Senior Partner.
Brian: So, it's official?
Katrina: It's official. And as my first act: Brian Simon Altman, will you be my associate?
Brian: Katrina, I'm honored, but before I answer, are you sure the two of us working so closely together is a good idea?
Katrina: What?
Brian: I mean, we've become good friends, so it might get complicated if I officially work for you.
In that sense, they have some of the elements that made Harvey and Mike a fantastic duo, or Jessica and Harvey. The way they took down that clothing designer who ripped off her friend was the best.
I love that Brian got creative and expanded his search for legal precedence into adjacent areas. It's a pity Katrina didn't think of doing that herself. It seemed like common sense, but Katrina tends to be linear in her thinking.
Brian's out of the box thinking is why the pair of them work so well together. The problem is their insane sexual tension that can be cut with a knife.
Every interaction between them feels like they're on the brink of risking it all and making out or more. It's unsettling, and while it's not entirely on Katrina, it's mostly on her. Her feelings for Brian cannot be more apparent.
Brian is harder to place because sometimes he comes across well-meaning and platonic, but then he comments on his wife's inability to understand his love of Law the way that Katrina does. There are moments when he seems aware of whatever this thing is between them.
Katrina needs Brian's investment and devotion. Brian called her on her crap in a professional capacity, but he also elevates her in her personal life too. It sucks that their friendship is muddled by everything else.

But all relationships are complicated, as evidenced by Robert's mixed feelings when the latest attack against the firm was put to rest.
Tommy was a spiteful man who fought them to his death. The others, for the life of them, couldn't figure out why he was willing to destroy himself in his quest.
The wheels of Justice turn slowly, Tommy. Which means even if you win, you won't be here to see it.
Harvey
He was hungry for his firm, and therefore, hungry for vengeance. It's sad when you think about it. He could have spent the time he had left with loved ones. Instead, he wanted to defeat Robert and the entire firm even though he was in the wrong.
The firm is always hanging on by a thread and nearly everyone in it has done something that could cost them their license. The gang scrambling to resolve the issue and fighting along the way was no surprise.

In fact, Donna had the quote of the night when she demanded Harvey and Zane stop fighting each other long enough to fight their common enemy. That summed the entire series up in a nutshell.
Donna: Before you two go any further, Bratton wasn't bluffing. He just sent over a trial date; it's a week from today.
Harvey: Shit.
Donna: Exactly. So you two need to stop fighting each other because now we have to fight him.
They never learn their lesson, though. It was risky as heck for Donna to approach Denise Gallo. Who knew Gallo would still be coming up like this?
Samantha and Alex are exasperating. They're like two unruly kids who can't be tamed. Their fighting is childish and annoying. It was old 10 seconds after it started.
Samantha is incapable of playing well with others. Every time it appears as though she might be settling in and making friends, she leverages them and screws it up. She can't help herself, which is a shame. When she's likable, she's really likable, but when she isn't ...
She knew calling in her favor from Louis in that manner was out of line. That was about her own interest and incessant need to win over the firm's interest coming through.
Samantha claims she's a great person to have in your corner because she looks out for people, and she does in her own way. What good is it if everything comes with a price? She makes it difficult to be her friend because no can let their guard down with her.
Meanwhile, Alex flat out behaves like a child. Samantha is right about Gavin, and Alex knows it. Hell, he's willing to drop Gavin like the bad habit if he gets named partner.
When Samantha and Alex abandoned their mediation for pettiness, it was too damn much.
If you want my money, Samantha, come and take it because I'm not signing any deals with anyone.
Gavin
Their constant bickering isn't doing either of them any favors; they're insufferable together. Hopefully, Harvey letting them duke it out once and for all will put an end to it.
Did anyone else cringe when Samantha brought up feminism? Samantha doesn't have an issue stepping on anyone to get what she wants. She spouted that off as a tactic to garner favor with Donna.
Donna was right, it's not about Samantha getting the "wait your turn, sweetheart" from the guys. Alex was promised the position first and did some work before demanding it. Nothing less and nothing more.
