Free Internet tools road and street maps of the Philippines: until yesterday evening that statement was an oxymoron. As of yesterday evening the best road and street maps of the Philippines are now on-line 24/7 on the MyCam-Asia.tv website . . . and elsewhere soon. The Philippines travel and tourism industry has suffered for too long with out of date road and street maps, showing roads that did not exist and no roads where new roads had been built. No Longer!

The free Internet tools in the form of road maps are a project of OpenStreetMap.org and Google Earth (to replace the woefully inadequate road maps that Google used to display). MyCam Asia staff have joined the OpenStreetMap.org Philippine team and are stepping out in all directions of the archipelago to GPS locate every street corner, every route, every significant landmark and public building, and any significant thing else that catches their eye.

Want to see how good the new road and street maps of the Philippines are? Click these links to test drive the Subic Bay street map or the Metro Manila street map on the MyCam Asia website; for maximum information delivery the road maps and street data is displayed overlaid on top of Google Earth images. Make sure the "hybrid" display is selected and then zoom in or pan to use the most accurate road and street maps of the Philippines.

The maps and the basic data are available for download to your in-car or handheld GPS device so from OpenStreetMap.org; the advanced travel and tourism webcam travel guides, scuba diving dive site locations, property for sale and forthcoming events data from MyCam Asia will be available for download later in 2009.

These new road and street maps are the first to be published online in the Philippines and possibly the first online in Asia. They will create new travel and tourism incentives for local government units, e.g. the municipality of Naga City has agreed to share its street name data with the Open Street Maps Project so that the GPS information that has been gathered can be correctly matched with current street names. So, if you want to expand travel and tourism in your vicinity then assist the Open Street Map Project and tell your mayor to contact OpenStreetMap.org or MyCam-Asia.tv today.

Even if your mayor is a little slow on the uptake, MyCam Asia and the OpenStreetMap.org Philippine team will be coming to a road or street corner near you soon so give them a wave as they pass by with their GPS device in hand Visit the MyCam Asia website regularly and watch as island by island, town by town, every corner of the most beautiful archipelago on the planet, appears on the Internet . . . for free.
