I had my baby girl at 45 years old with my own egg, my first pregnancy.

I conceived quickly, within two months of figuring out how to use a basal temperature chart.

Now, at 47 years old, it is proving more difficult to get pregnant.

But my theory is as long as you have a period, it can happen.

It's just a matter of hitting the right cycle.

So just be ready every cycle! Good luck to you!

Lisa - Proud 47-year-old mother to a very active 2 1/2-year-old.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was Dr. Toth's patient in April 2005. I come to him after losing almost any hope to have another child. (My daughter is 24 years old).
After 2.5 years of acupuncture, 3 cycles of Clomid, 4 medicated IUIs [intra-uterine insemination], three IVF [in vitro fertilization] with transfer and another 3 IVFs which were canceled due to no response, in Cornell doctor's opinion, I had no chances to conceive using my own eggs.
Dr. Toth was my last hope.
My husband and I got tested and my husband was diagnosed with Chlamydia infection and some other bacteria.
He was tested multiple times in different in-fertility clinics, they found nothing.
Not NYU, not Cornell, nor Columbia.
We both had full Dr. Toth's treatment in April 2005 (by the way it was covered as out-network procedures by United Health Care)
After we finished the treatment, Dr. Toth told me, you will get pregnant within 6 months. And I did get pregnant in October 2005.
But I lost the baby in December due to a chromosomal abnormality. I had D+C [Dilation and curettage] in December 2005 and got pregnant again, the second cycle after D+C.
I am 44 years old and now I have a beautiful baby boy.
Natural pregnancy!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I had my daughter at 41 years old.

I got pregnant on this baby at 44 years old.

I will be 45 years old having the baby.

Please, God.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amy was 48 years old when she became pregnant; Tom was 45 years old.
They had been married for eight months.
They hadn't counted on pregnancy, but they hadn't tried to prevent it.
It would be a long shot, they figured.
Then, in the summer of 2005, Amy had an unusual menstrual cycle.
She went to see her doctor, who had told her a couple of years earlier she might be entering early menopause.
A few days after the appointment, the doctor called Amy at work and asked her if she could talk in privacy.
Then the doctor told her she was pregnant.
I said, 'Yeah, but are you sure?' Amy asked.
It felt like a miracle.
How else could she explain it?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Isn't it funny how when you are 20 years old, you think 40 years old is too old to have a child?

But when you hit 40 years old, it doesn't seem too old at all?

I know plenty of women who had children later rather than sooner in their lives.

My sister had her first baby at 40 years old, and her second baby at 43 years old.

Her kids keep her young, and she is so much more relaxed about it then I see some young mothers being.

PLEASE don't call me an older mother.

Call me an old mother, if you don't mind.

I fell pregnant with my first child on the cusp of 50 years old, a good half-hour after midnight in biological terms, and after 10 years of trying to conceive.

Of course, the verb is ironic: a woman doesn't fall pregnant in her late 40s, she achieves pregnancy.

As with any achievement, there are hardships and sacrifices along the way, but while a man undertaking a do-or-die challenge is praised for heroism and determination to succeed against the odds, old mothers are merely accused of selfishness.

by Nicky Wesson

-- outlines ways in which you can improve your fertility through alternative therapies, diet, exercise, and relaxation techniques and avoid some of the hazards associated with conventional treatments.

It discusses the most common causes of infertility and explains how to determine which therapy is most appropriate for you.

In vitro fertilization, conventional medicine's most prescribed remedy for infertility problems is expensive, dangerous, and has a success rate of only 14 percent, yet few of the one in six couples that experience infertility are aware of the effectiveness and safety provided by the wide range of alternative treatments.

Thoroughly researched and packed full of invaluable advice and tips, the book explores such therapies as acupuncture, reflexology, homeopathy, cranial osteopathy, aromatherapy, and herbalism.

The author includes case histories for each of the therapies discussed, showing how the therapies helped couples overcome both primary and secondary infertility in order to have the baby they longed for.

May 5, 1980 - Love affairs and husbands can end, but a child is forever.

It is the most important thing that ever happened to me, exults Ursula Andress, the Swiss-born actress and seven-time Playboy plaything.

At the ripe age of 44 years old, she is expecting her first baby in mid-May.

Let's say I had an incredible life up until today, and now I think it's time for a change.

The father is Pasadena-born actor Harry Hamlin, 28, who starred in Movie, Movie and the NBC miniseries Studs Lonigan.

While pregnant, Ursula has followed no special diet, but drinks milk, eats more eggs and takes vitamins.

The indefatigable Andress concedes her 20 extra pounds tire her.

I come home, put my feet up and fall asleep with my boots on, she laughs.

I can feel the baby move; he's pushing on my liver all the time. While I'm running around he's quiet, but when I'm lying down in bed I feel him jumping, she observes.

I am 44 years old with a one-year-old.

It was an amazing pregnancy and birth.

He is perfectly healthy.

~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~
He told us about a 47-year-old woman who had just given birth at the hospital where he works.
She and her husband had gone through numerous attempts at IVF [in vitro fertilization] which hadn't been successful and had given up trying a number of years ago.
But last year she fell pregnant naturally, had an easy pregnancy with no complications and last week gave birth to......guess what....twins!!!!
What a wonderful New Year's present!!
~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~

I'm 43 years old (44 in January) and am just six weeks pregnant.

I had one failed IVF cycle in April - three follicles but no eggs on EC! Cry

They then changed my meds and in late July I went for EC [early cleavage], again with just three follicles (talk about a feeling of deja vu!!)

This time though they got three eggs and 100% fertilization with ICSI [Intracytoplasmic sperm injection].

Two weeks later I got a big fat positive!

Our first scan is on Tuesday - fingers crossed everything is OK.

I'm doing pregnancy tests every two-three days as that is the only way I'm keeping sane at the moment!

It can happen, I have no idea why everything has turned out like this so far but I'm just praying it continues.

I just wish I could find out why it's worked so far for me and could give you some tips

Instead, all I can do is sending you out as many positive vibes as possible

~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~
I'm 44 years old and started trying for a child just after my 42nd birthday.
First attempt got pregnant but had severe problems, baby not well (dying and with chromosomal problems) so had to terminate at 13 weeks.
Then got pregnant again a few months after and miscarried at 12 weeks.
Then, no success.
I was just about to give up, move on, etc. - so had a holiday, chilled out a bit, tried to stop it taking too much hold on my life.
The shock of my life last week after my holiday - I was feeling really strange, went off alcohol, sore boobs, funny feelings, so bought an HPT [home pregnancy test] and I'm pregnant (naturally!!!!).
Was in shock - so I'm now sat at home trying not to worry or even move too much!
Did blood test on Monday - shows very high HCG [Human chorionic gonadotropin] levels, did another on Wednesday and now waiting for results.
Very worried (on the doctor's computer screen it said ABNORMAL HCG levels!), but pregnant.
So yes - 43/44 years old can succeed in pregnancy, and I'm hoping it will go to full term :-)
~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~

Got married for first time at 43 years old, starting TTC [trying to conceive] immediately.

After 12 months went for help and had two rounds of IVF [in vitro fertilization] last year.

First 3 eggs, all fertilised but BFN [big fat negative]!

Started second a month later but terrible response and converted to IUI [intrauterine insemination] - BFN.

Told eggs old and wrinkly at the review when I was then 45 years old.

So advised to go Donor Egg route or try for our own miracle.

Had started doing Chinese herbs with acupuncture, and within 3 months had first BFP [big fat positive] in January, but it only lasted for a few days.

Kept taking herbs, etc. doing yoga and Pilates and got next BFP on March 6th - currently, I am 35+ weeks pregnant with my first baby and I will be 46 years old in November.

Little one being induced end of the month.

It can happen - just keep tweaking your odds, and it may be you.

Image: Is everything you thought about older mothers WRONG?

Here's a little quiz for you...

What did the following famous women do at the ages given:
Arlene Philips, 47; Jane Seymour, 44; Christie Brinkley, 44; Bridget Jones author Helen Fielding, 48?

Some form of cosmetic surgery, perhaps? Divorce, maybe?

No, that's the age at which they gave birth.

And this week Carla Bruni joined the number of high‑profile older mums when she had her daughter at the age of 43 — not, perhaps, as unusual as Cherie Blair giving birth to baby Leo at 45 years old, but still old enough to raise a few eyebrows.

You Make Me Feel Like an Unnatural Woman is not only about having children later in life: it's about what happens to a marriage—and to the spirit when even the most sought-after baby comes.

Wry, warm, and brutally honest, this is the book for any woman—whatever her age—who has awakened at 3AM to the insistent shrieks of her darling and thought: Oh man, I'm too old for this.

Mandy and Mark Parry with daughter Violet (Image Credit: Flashfoto)
We followed seven cycles of IVF and five attempts at donor egg insemination

Mandy Parry, 46, is a teacher and lives in Bristol with husband Mark, 47, a community safety officer, and their five-month-old daughter Violet. Mandy says:

Having been through seven years of grueling, heartbreaking fertility treatment, I'd urge any women thinking about delaying motherhood not to, for their own sakes.

I'd have loved children in my early 30s but I didn't meet the right man, Mark, until I was 39 years old.

When we started trying for a family six months later I kept losing my pregnancies and discovered that my eggs were no longer healthy.

Then followed seven cycles of IVF and five attempts at donor egg insemination in South Africa before I finally had Violet in May this year.

We spent £50,000 — the equity from the house I sold when I met Mark and moved in with him — and it was emotionally and physically draining.

It was scary finding out I was pregnant last year, because I'd been pregnant four times before and lost all of them in the first three months.

I spent the whole pregnancy waiting for something bad to happen.

Mark has three children from his first marriage, but he wanted a baby as much as I did.

It's weird to think that when he was a father of three in his 20s, I was young, free, single and partying in London. With hindsight, he feels he was too young to truly appreciate his children then.

The advantage of having a baby at 46 is that I've got the support of a wonderful, mature man. We're financially secure and feel safe and stable in our marriage.

I don't worry about being an older mum in terms of being around for her future. My dad was 44 when I was born and mum was 36, so I grew up with older parents.

And I've got as much energy as any other mum.

I've got a few friends who feel it's immoral to have a baby in your late 40s, but they know how much I'd have loved to have had a child years ago and what a battle we've been through to have Violet.

Whether we'll have another child is a sore point. Mark thinks we should count our blessings, but we've got seven more embryos in South Africa that we've paid for, so the temptation for me is to try for another baby.

Pregnancy Miracle

Hello all, My name is Lisa, and I am 55 years old.

I needed to join this board because I really hope to be an inspiration for women trying to conceive at later ages.

Two weeks ago, I found out I am expecting my sixth child, and I am now at 8 weeks pregnant.

I went in to see my doctor because I had not been feeling well.

I was getting frequent headaches and lower back pain, along with some queasiness.

So I went in to make sure things were OK, and my doctor told me I was actually expecting!

I will be 56 years old when this baby is born, and I do plan to have a natural birth.

I have four older children - ages 17, 23, 26, and 28 years old - and I also have a five-year-old.

My five-year-old was actually planned, born when I was 50 years old.

My husband and I had wanted one more little one.

But I guess she was not supposed to be the last!

I also have two grandchildren.

My 28-year-old daughter has a four-year-old, and she and I were both preggo around the same time, which was pretty exciting.

And my 26-year-old son has a three-year-old.

So I am a grandmother as well.

I have seen a few others on this board expecting after 50, and I hope if anyone out there is trying to conceive at an older age, they do not give up!

And congrats to all the expectant mothers out there!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Congrats on your new found pregnancy!

I am also in my fifties (54 years old), and expecting my fourth baby in late July.

I have a 16-year-old, a 20-year-old and a 26-year-old.

And I too have two grandchildren!

It's is always exciting to hear stories I can relate to, and hopefully, be an encouragement!

I wish you all luck, and I will keep you in my prayers!

I conceived naturally a month or so after I turned 43 years old.

She was born 2 months before my 44th birthday.

Happy and healthy!

~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~
The 46-year-old speaks very poor English but her cousin happens to be the embryologist who works with my RE [Reproductive Endocrinologist].
Here is what I learned from both of them.
The woman has a 20-year-old daughter and, at age 45, was experiencing menopausal symptoms - hot flashes, mood swings, night sweats, and insomnia.
She was going to begin HRT [Hormone Replacement Therapy] when she decided to do a colon cleanse first.
She found a good cleanse at a health food store and some herbal tea and changed her diet, and increased her fiber and water consumption for a period of 30 days.
She is an Amway distributor and also started taking some very high-quality vitamins they sell.
She said within the month, she felt 100% better and virtually all of her symptoms had disappeared.
There was no need for her to start the HRT since she was feeling so much better.
Low and behold, in another two months, she discovered she was pregnant.
One year ago in August, at the age of 46+, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~

I also got a call from a 44-year-old friend who just did IVF [in-vitro fertilization] about a week before me.

She got a BFP [big fat positive - pregnancy test] - and had transferred eight not-so-hot embies [embryos]!

Just goes to show you... you never know.

~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~
I answered the poll as one who gave birth at the age of 45.
I conceived at 44 years old, and I was 45 and 2 months old when I gave birth to a beautiful, perfectly healthy girl after an uneventful pregnancy.
Just so you know, I used my own eggs (well, just one).
I don't know how it escaped me conceiving my first at age 44 might be a little difficult, but I was newly married at 43 years old, and we just kept trying.
I kept BBT [body basel temperature] charts, and was attuned to my fertile time.
I did not take any supplements, other than folic acid.
All I can say is the less than 3% chance of conceiving I was given by the RE turned out to be all the chance I needed.
Don't give up!
~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~@~~~

My husband and I TTC for nearly 4-1/2 yrs and were unsuccessful.
At ages 46 and 42, we decided to apply for an adoption program within the county where we live.
Before we completed adoption classes in March 2004, we found out we had conceived in February 2004. Unfortunately, we miscarried at five weeks along.

My OB/GYN encouraged me by saying at least we knew I had the capability to get pregnant.
My younger sister had done research on estrogen dominance, of which I had many of the symptoms.
So, after the miscarriage, I started progesterone cream treatment, and two months later, we were pregnant!

We had a healthy, full-term pregnancy and gave birth to a beautiful little girl, one month before I turned 43.

I have been very uncertain about having another child at my age (I'm 44 years old now), but after reading all of these wonderful and encouraging comments, maybe we will TTC [try to conceive] this year!

Image: Is Your Body Baby-Friendly?: Unexplained Infertility, Miscarriage and IVF Failure - Explained, by Alan E. Beer, Julia Kantecki, Jane Reed. Publisher: AJR Publishing; 1 edition (October 28, 2006)Is Your Body Baby-Friendly?:
Unexplained Infertility, Miscarriage and IVF Failure - Explained
by Alan E. Beer, Julia Kantecki, Jane Reed

-- A unique book—the first of its kind. No longer do patients have to accept that their infertility is just bad luck and they just have to keep on trying.

No longer should women with recurrent miscarriages have to listen to their doctor telling them that their loss was God's will or that they ought to be thankful because their baby was probably chromosomally abnormal.

The statistics simply do not support such claims—in fact, they show that repeated reproductive failure can be a symptom of wider health problems in the mother.

Furthermore, the root cause can be treated—not only to promote the chances of a successful pregnancy but to improve the mother's health long-term.

I am sure you've heard the term menopause baby.

Women in their 50s, who think they are no longer fertile, and skip using birth control, sometimes find out the hard way they are still more than capable of becoming pregnant.

While it is true your risk of becoming pregnant declines each year as you move towards menopause, there's always a chance you still can get pregnant.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
During peri-menopause, a woman can still get pregnant.
As such, the term menopause baby is a misnomer, since a woman who is truly in menopause has already lost her fertility.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dr. Hillard: You are, technically, still fertile until one year after your last menstrual period (which incidentally, you don't know is your last until it's been a year! CATCH 22).

Many of us have heard about the menopause baby our mother/grandmother/great aunt or other family member thought was the change of life and turned out to be pregnancy, with all of its life changes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My mother was a menopause baby.
My grandmother had her when she was 47 years old, and my grandfather was 50 years old, in 1931.
She had three other children aged 21, 19, and 10 years old.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am sure a lot of people will be asking, Is it possible for a 49-year-old menopausal woman to get pregnant?

Yes, it is, said Direk Maryo. I am a menopause baby.

My mother was 49 years old when she had me.

January 30, 2012 -- Meredith Olafson rubs her hands across her swollen belly and says this will be her last baby.

I am retiring after this one, the 47-year-old Fargo woman says.

This uterus is closing shop.

But whenever she says this, her family gently kids her they have heard that claim before.

Meredith has such a soft heart, explains her husband, Jay.

And then his wife will hear the sad story of another couple who can't conceive, and she'll want to help them, he says.
