Nutley's Rogers Will Pass On Re-Election To Fight For Trump 2020

Nutley Commissioner Steven Rogers isn't planning a 3rd run for office when his term is up. And he says that Trump is part of the reason why.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley Commissioner Steven Rogers is not planning a third run for office when his term is up. The reason? He wants to dedicate his time to helping President Trump get re-elected in 2020.

Rogers, the New Jersey manager for the “Trump 2020” effort and a candidate for New Jersey governor in 2017, put out an emphatic, exclamation point-laden statement on Twitter on Wednesday morning:

“Let’s put a matter to rest. All week media outlets have asked me if I am planning to run for office. The answer is NO! In fact I am not seeking a third term in Nutley because I believe in term limits and will dedicate all my time to help @realDonaldTrump get re-elected! End of story!”

Lately, Rogers has been a vocal advocate of the president’s #MAGA campaign in Essex County, recently stumping for Trump on the request of the Montclair Republicans at an event at the Greek Taverna on Bloomfield Avenue.

Earlier this month, Rogers appeared on a Fox News segment in support of the president. Speaking on Fox News, the ex-FBI intelligence officer and local cop in Nutley and East Orange said that the Obama administration left a "chilling effect" on police officers all across the country.

"The Trump administration thawed that chill as a result of the president standing up for law enforcement officers," Rogers said. He added that he expects to see a trend develop over the next few years that will make for "safer cities" moving forward.
