I really enjoyed my time at SUNY Oneonta. I enrolled as a freshman in 2019 and graduated with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. I felt most of my professors truly cared about my success in their classes. Since the school is on the smaller side, I found it comforting and easy to make friends and become familiar with various colleagues and peers. The campus is beautiful and set in a rural area in upstate New York. Overall, I truly enjoyed my experience at SUNY Oneonta and I highly recommend any prospective student to enroll here.
I had fun classes and pretty great professors who wanted to see me succeed. As a music industry major, I felt like Oneonta had the best program that was also affordable, and now that I'm a senior, this is true! I also worked on campus as an RA, a tour guide, etc., and joined a ton of clubs and organizations, so it was easy to get involved. While I loved my time here, I wished the school had more diversity in its staff. The student body overall is getting more and more diverse as the years go on, but there is not a single POC or queer professor in my major, and there are only 4 female identifying professors in the department. I hope this can change as the years go on! However, if I were to do it all again, I would still choose Oneonta!!!
Oneonta has a beautiful campus and city, filled with lots of outdoor activities, campus and community events, and unique restaurants. There is a vast majority of amazing majors and programs offered. My major is Biochemistry, and everyone in my departments knows each other well, and knows the professors in the department. I am given many amazing opportunities to learn more about different fields of science and medicine, and to study abroad or work on cool research alongside my professors.
